It makes no sense that Palace will pay ALL of Best's wages when the sticking point in the Dann has apparently been that they won't pay all of his wages. Anyway even if they did it is only the equivalent of adding £500k onto the transfer price - not enough if Venkys really are serious about a promotion push. Kilgallons wobbly showing at Man City should be a warning of what Dann's leaving would mean.

We need 2 if Robbo is out again. Those two need loaning out anywhere to get games under their belts and get some confidence, prove themselves week in week out. Was reading comments on another site from a Huddersfield fan who'd watched the City game and he was slating Eastwood saying it was well known he was crap when at theirs and only ended up at Pompey because they were begging for players :( Felt sorry for him last night but imo he ain't up to Championship standard.

There's been a lot of praise for Bowyer and his dealings in the transfer market but he dropped a clanger with Eastwood. Can't understand it because we knew from fans of his 2 previous clubs that he wasn't the goods.

We are all thinking a big run to take us into the six is on but we have no chance if we have to rely on Eastwood or Keane.

I agree we need good cover for Robbo NOW!

I think we all know Nixon talks keanox most of the time, but I'm still worried we're going to sell Dann, complete madness in my book if we have any ambitions of making the play offs. I trust the managers judgement, he must see something in Kilgallon, but I'm not sure you should sell the captain and a consistent performer mid-season.

Getting rid of Best is an tempting idea but loaning him out isn't the way unless the other club is actually willing to buy later. Palace obviously isn't.

When his wages are reported 37k per week and you can save that for 5 months you have to get him out any way you can. Worst case he's kean at palace and we save maybe 750k in wages. Best case he does ok there and puts himself in shop window. We save 750k and maybe find a buyer

Not sure what he said about the fans or what he said to Bowyer, but can't we just sack him?

If I told my director to kean off, or you don't know what you're doing, I'd expect to be sacked.

Palace won't come anywhere near to Best unless he is just a part of Dann deal.

Whilst I am not sure about losing Dann the deal would be great for our wages. We save Dann's 32k a week, £888,000 which would go to Best for 6 months, and the £3 million fee could be used to pay off someone like Etuhu (or Orr and Ollson.)

If Bowyer rates that O'Connell lad (which others have said and makes sense as he only seems to be loaned out for a month at a time), then it may be worth a gamble.

It is a shame we are still struggling for a steady keeper - Losing Dann in front of a changing and un-reliable keeper is more of a risk than if we had a decent goalie.

Then I can see Dann going, as the club can shift a huge chunk of the wage bill there. Id say them 2 are in the top 4 wage earners we have left. Id hate to see dann go but if thats the deal palace are forcing then he's probably gone imo

I think if we can sell Dann, we may see some of the money reinvested with the same sensible thought pattern that snagged us Spurr, Cairney, Gestede and Marshall.

We have already shown that we are prepared to keep investing in players, and its refreshing that those four players are potentially worth more now than what we paid. Thats the way to go!

Perhaps Shackell, as (even as a dingle) has looked good in the games I have seen. We are still fortunate enough to have a big pull - proved that with Cairney. Another suggestion could be the Celtic player on loan in league one - Callum Mcgregor. Looks a lively attacking mid, with an eye for goal.

I have a genuine feeling of excitement, not sure why! (drugs maybe?) - We are at last looking up, rather than down.

If we save 32k a week but lose our chance of promotion is it a good deal or a bad one?

Clearly a bad one. But the finances and club debt need addressing. This is the gamble we are faced with.

Hopefully Bowyer has the final say on things like this and Dann only goes if he thinks he can replace him and save buckets of cash

With the Dann situation I am reassured by what Bowyer did with Martin Ollsson. I thought we should hold on to him because we wouldn't find anyone as talented.

But Bowyer got Tommy Spurr in to replace him - we saved on wages, pocketed a transfer fee and the team benefited - especially given that Spurr seems to have a great attitude and Ollsson wasn't happy with us.

Any change that negatively affects our slim promotion chance isn't worth it, but it looks like we aren't going to be able to shift Best on his own, so we may need to use one of our players with value to get things moving.

I am glad it's Dann rather than Hanley!

Agree massively on this - mainly because I don't think Dann is that good and Best is poison. Financially getting rid of both will be a big lift, and I think we could replace Dann for a fraction of the wages, and £1 million for a good championship level defender, without weakening the team. And Bowyer does seem to be able to spot a player - Spurr, and Cairney to name two, and both Gestede and Marshall are also in excellent form looking increasingly like being inspired signings.

My only concern is that Bowyer seems to get it spectacularly right or wrong. There's not much/many the jury is out on (Kilgallon perhaps?). All the others have been clangers or belters. On the belters side, Cairney and Spurr have been quality all season, as has Evans when fit. And Marshall and Gestede are in good form too, despite not having the most promising of careers up till now.

However there's been some clangers. Judge and Marrow - both of whom Bowyer should have known their level having spent a fair whack of time with them before - have proved to be utter duds incapable of cutting it at this level. Given the inside knowledge on both of them, Bowyer's assessment of them is rather worrying. Equally Songoo and Eastwood look a million miles away from being Championship standard, even as squad players.

Hopefully given Marshall and Gestede are more recent signings Bowyer's getting a bit more savvy in the transfer market.

In the position we are in we cant have top players not even making the bench. marrow and songoo are our 4th and 5th choice centre backs. You hope they never have to play, but you have to have players in who can play if ever needed. Dann and hanley have barely missed a game so we have never had to play them. For free transfers, thats probably exactly what bowyer hoped would happen. Same goes for eastwood really. he was signed on a free to be our 3rd choice keeper, but due to the spectacular collapse of kean he's been thrust into a starters role. I'd hardly call these dud signings, they are just cheap bodies you need, but hope you never have to play. Judge is a bit diffrent, again was a free but he was a decent squad player at this level and could have contributed a bit imo. But credit to the lad, he wasnt happy with that role and wanted to go play as a starter somehwere else. Considering his budget and sewer he's shopping in bowyer has worked miracles in my opinion and has hit on every player he's paid for
