I can't believe everyone is getting excited over the codswallop written by Nixon.

Loaning out Best in isolation would obviously save us wages for the remainder of the season but we'd be a player down and ideally we could do with someone buying him permanently. Nevertheless probably an ok move, hopefully we could cope being a body light in attack.

Selling Dann in any circumstances represents a huge gamble with our chances of promotion. I've not been impressed with Kilgallon at all when he's come in. If Dann were to be sold it should only be at more than or at least what we think it's worth. Selling him for less than he's worth should be an absolute no no. Throwing in another player on loan should make no difference to that at all, it's us doing them a second favour not them throwing in a "sweetner" to balance up the deal.

If the proposal were say "we'll only give you 3m for Dann but we'll also pay you 2m for Best on a permanent deal" that would maybe be worth considering if replacements were available.

Someone should ask Nixon though if Palace are unwilling to meet Dann's wages as he conceded last week, is it Best who would be meeting the shortfall in Dann's wages under his latest wheeze?

Agree massively on this - mainly because I don't think Dann is that good and Best is poison. Financially getting rid of both will be a big lift, and I think we could replace Dann for a fraction of the wages, and £1 million for a good championship level defender, without weakening the team. And Bowyer does seem to be able to spot a player - Spurr, and Cairney to name two, and both Gestede and Marshall are also in excellent form looking increasingly like being inspired signings.

My only concern is that Bowyer seems to get it spectacularly right or wrong. There's not much/many the jury is out on (Kilgallon perhaps?). All the others have been clangers or belters. On the belters side, Cairney and Spurr have been quality all season, as has Evans when fit. And Marshall and Gestede are in good form too, despite not having the most promising of careers up till now.

However there's been some clangers. Judge and Marrow - both of whom Bowyer should have known their level having spent a fair whack of time with them before - have proved to be utter duds incapable of cutting it at this level. Given the inside knowledge on both of them, Bowyer's assessment of them is rather worrying. Equally Songoo and Eastwood look a million miles away from being Championship standard, even as squad players.

Hopefully given Marshall and Gestede are more recent signings Bowyer's getting a bit more savvy in the transfer market.

Bowyer would be some manager if he pulled a rabbit out of the hat everytime with his £3m transfer budget.

Also, there might have been ulterior motives for signing Marrow & Judge.

Whilst I am not sure about losing Dann the deal would be great for our wages. We save Dann's 32k a week, £888,000 which would go to Best for 6 months, and the £3 million fee could be used to pay off someone like Etuhu (or Orr and Ollson.)

It just goes to show how stupid and corrupt the modern game is - £32k per annum is more than the national average wage ffs, approximately what a college lecturer earns, and twice what many of the front line staff in banking are paid, per year... And we are supposed to think £32k per week is "reasonable" for numb-nuts journeymen like these, who probably couldn't even spell amoral, let alone apply it to their own ridiculous circumstances. It just makes me despise football as an industry, :angry2:

Am I the only one who finds the Orr to Toronto rumour completely bizarre?.

They must have money to burn relatively speaking to make themselves the biggest fish in a small pond over there so fork out 90k p.w. to tempt Defoe over there towards the end of his career. Fair enough.

Stage 2 of the masterplan, ..........Bradley Orr. I mean come on.

Skysports:

We are hearing that Millwall are lining up a move for Blackburn Rovers striker DJ Campbell. New Millwall boss Ian Holloway is a big fan of Campbell having signed him while he was in charge of Blackpool with the striker enjoying the best spell of his career under Holloway.

Yes, please!!

If we somehow manage to shift DJ Campbell and Best then Rovers deserve a lot of praise!

However, it does mean we're left with Rhodes, Gestede, Goodwillie (who's possibly off) and King who can play up front.

That's the trouble with the transfer window - if we currently had Goodwillie, DJ Campbell, Best and Rochina off the books we may well look to get someone else in. But as it is clubs leave it late so we have to wait before potentially getting someone in.

Did we not do our striker business early though by signing Gestede?

I agree we could do with another if Campbell leaves as I think that is not in the planning.

I agree and that's not the point I'm trying to make.

More that generally the signings are boom or bust. Other than Kilgallon who doesn't add much but isn't a liability most of the players we've got have done really well, or you wouldn't want anywhere near the first team. I can't think of many other times players have been so extreme in being either extremely good or bad.

Also what ulterior motives are you talking about for Marrow and Judge?

Bowyer's already said any signings are likely to be reactionary ones. I'm sure they'll have options lined up should we shift anyone on, the only downside is our bargaining position won't be great as the window draws to a close.

Good attitudes, hard workers/trainers, good humour to help with team spirit. possibly motives like that. The supposed busts are free transfers on peanuts and havent played a game due to no real games missed by the starters they were never bought to replace. Not sure they can be called good or bad signings. They are squad depth you need, but know your struggling if you ever get that deep into your squad. Especially with the budget issues we have

You owe me a kick back after talking me into losing a fiver on the city match :(

OK here you go since I feel guilty.

Always bet on city to win at home and score over 2.5 goals, it comes in very frequently:

If you want the actual fiver back my lawn needs mowing!

Can't help thinking Campbell came into the reckoning partly because we thought there was no chance whatsoever of shifting him after the recent allegations and we would be more likely to shift Best. Plus Best is more expensive wage wise.

If we could shift Campbell it would be a right result imo. Thereafter it all depends what happens to Best, Goodwillie and Rochina. Whilst I'm not a fan of Goodwillie at all we might just about be able to cope with him as 4th striker if Best went out on loan as well and Rochina stayed.

In the unlikely event alll 4 went out on loan however, we'd need a couple in pretty sharpish I'd say.
