We need a Flitcroft type player, someone to get a tackle in, niggle the opposition, and rally the troops. There must be someone currently in the PL reserves who is experienced enough to do this side of things.

Dabo doesnt seem like a natural fit to me, he may have talent, but he's got no experience.

If only Baz , if only !

What worries me is , I am not sure Bowyer realises that fact !

Underwhelming but I guess he's coming in as a squad player on the cheap. He'll probably do more of a job than certain players whilst costing a fraction of what they earn in wages

Very much my view. Could be better could be worse. On a free it's a good squad signing.

Compared to Best and Goodwillie?

Well if we're using them as a yard stick then we really going nowhere.

Many said the same about Rudy

But he's 6 years younger, with time to improve & was from recently promoted side.

Varney would be Bowyers poorest signing yet after some good business. Would also be another indication that we're chasing mediocrity rather than promotion, very uninspiring singing if it happens.

8 goals in 48? It's a pants signing.

Ruddy was hardly prolific either and I doubt he'll regularly score more than 10 a season but like varney goals aren't what he's all about.

Managers wouldnt have givn him so many starts in his career if he wasnt contributing something.

Hes definitely an improvement of d.j. Goodwillie best and Ruben and hell bring with him some much needed experience.

BBC reporting that Reading or Wigan set to sign Jack Hobbs from Hull.

He would have been a good replacement for Dann.

If Wigan sign Hobbs I can't see them going for Dawson but with Swansea signing Ngog, Bolton may have freed some wages to rival Rovers for him

I was hoping that Hobbs was going to be the player that would be brought in if dann goes, we seem to have good relations with hupl/Steve Bruce and thought Hobbs might like the idea of linking back up with Evans and cairney.

I think some are going to be disappointed at the end of this window...

We are looking for experienced BACKUP players at CB and CF. Varney is exactly the sort of player in this category. Been around the block, cheap wages and will understand if he's not playing every week.

Similarly the replacement for Dann will not be a Dawson or Hobbs who would command big wages, a fee and regular first team football. That void was filled prematurely by Kilgallon in the summer (this is a point I have made on several occasions and is actually confirmed by GB this morning on the Telegraph). The CB signing is likely to be in the same mould as Varney (been around the block and isn't going to set the world on fire but similarly isn't going to let us down or cause a fuss if not picked)

The winger aspect is of course a diff prospect as it has arisen with Marshall's injury. Could result in an exciting loan move (Ibe etc). If they can't get that done then I wouldn't be surprised if Judge returns either.

To sum up we already have too many high wage earners. The players brought in will be back up IMO...we shall see!!

I wouldn't be disappointed at all. Its like you said we need players who are prepared to play as back up players to the likes of Rhodes/Getede and Hanley/Kilgallon.

We shouldn't forget that we have signed Cairney and Gestede on permanent deals as well

According to Bryan Dabo's twitter he is joining but not sure why we need him now that Evans is back in full training.
