Baz Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 We need a Flitcroft type player, someone to get a tackle in, niggle the opposition, and rally the troops. There must be someone currently in the PL reserves who is experienced enough to do this side of things. Dabo doesnt seem like a natural fit to me, he may have talent, but he's got no experience.

chaddyrovers Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Dawson only available on loan http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/west-brom-transfer-update-pepe-6617407 I very much doubt we will get him tbh. reckon player might want to go back to Bolton where he played for last season. but lets hope he comes here on loan.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Can't see him coming to be 3rd choice. He may as well stay at West Brom. As other people have said Kilgallon was signed in case Dann left.

If only Baz , if only ! What worries me is , I am not sure Bowyer realises that fact !

Clitherover Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Link from Leeds http://networkedblogs.com/Tfmfu Underwhelming but I guess he's coming in as a squad player on the cheap. He'll probably do more of a job than certain players whilst costing a fraction of what they earn in wages

Mafioso Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Is Varney the guy who was on loan to a promoted premiership side a few years back and had a REALLY good start to the season but faded away?
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Is Varney the guy who was on loan to a promoted premiership side a few years back and had a REALLY good start to the season but faded away? Was on loan at Blackpool when they were in the premier.
Backroom Mike E Posted January 28, 2014 Backroom Posted January 28, 2014 8 goals in 48? It's a pants signing. Compared to Best and Goodwillie?
FGS5635 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 8 goals in 48? It's a pants signing. Many said the same about Rudy
sharpysharps Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Varney is the kind of player who could probably slot into a position our wide as well as up front. all I know about him is he is a work horse but has also been sent off a few times.
FGS5635 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Lets be honest we are after cover for rudy and JR. No decent player is going to sign knowing this. Varney is prob the best we can do under them cicumstances
Neal Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Compared to Best and Goodwillie? Well if we're using them as a yard stick then we really going nowhere. Many said the same about Rudy But he's 6 years younger, with time to improve & was from recently promoted side. Varney would be Bowyers poorest signing yet after some good business. Would also be another indication that we're chasing mediocrity rather than promotion, very uninspiring singing if it happens.
G Somerset Rover Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 As I said yesterday, we were strongly linked with Wilbraham at Palace and then ended up with Gestede, so hopefully Bowyer moves on once more and pulls another decent signing in. There's surely got to be better options than Varney.
T.J.Newton Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 8 goals in 48? It's a pants signing. Ruddy was hardly prolific either and I doubt he'll regularly score more than 10 a season but like varney goals aren't what he's all about.Managers wouldnt have givn him so many starts in his career if he wasnt contributing something. Hes definitely an improvement of d.j. Goodwillie best and Ruben and hell bring with him some much needed experience.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 BBC reporting that Reading or Wigan set to sign Jack Hobbs from Hull. He would have been a good replacement for Dann. If Wigan sign Hobbs I can't see them going for Dawson but with Swansea signing Ngog, Bolton may have freed some wages to rival Rovers for him
FGS5635 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 6 yrs older doesnt really matter if he's only on loan though.

SoldierMo Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I seem to remember varney being decent at ewood when leeds came to town
Mani Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I think some are going to be disappointed at the end of this window... We are looking for experienced BACKUP players at CB and CF. Varney is exactly the sort of player in this category. Been around the block, cheap wages and will understand if he's not playing every week. Similarly the replacement for Dann will not be a Dawson or Hobbs who would command big wages, a fee and regular first team football. That void was filled prematurely by Kilgallon in the summer (this is a point I have made on several occasions and is actually confirmed by GB this morning on the Telegraph). The CB signing is likely to be in the same mould as Varney (been around the block and isn't going to set the world on fire but similarly isn't going to let us down or cause a fuss if not picked) The winger aspect is of course a diff prospect as it has arisen with Marshall's injury. Could result in an exciting loan move (Ibe etc). If they can't get that done then I wouldn't be surprised if Judge returns either. To sum up we already have too many high wage earners. The players brought in will be back up IMO...we shall see!!

Its like you said we need players who are prepared to play as back up players to the likes of Rhodes/Getede and Hanley/Kilgallon. We shouldn't forget that we have signed Cairney and Gestede on permanent deals as well According to Bryan Dabo's twitter he is joining but not sure why we need him now that Evans is back in full training.
Backroom Mike E Posted January 28, 2014 Backroom Posted January 28, 2014 According to Bryan Dabo's twitter he is joining but not sure why we need him now that Evans is back in full training. Hopefully replacing Williamson!
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 According to Bryan Dabo's twitter he is joining but not sure why we need him now that Evans is back in full training. Probably to play the same formation as now but with more capable players. Lowe could be moved to full back
