Steve Moss Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 A midfeild 3 of him, cairney and evans. If only Jermaine Jones, Tom Cairney and Corry Evans? From your mouth to Venkys' ears. That would be a midfield to dominate the Championship. Though Jermaine Jones would be expensive. Agree strongly with this. Freidal would be such a great signing. Give the whole club a lift. No point selling Dann now imo everything possible should be done to get us in the playoffs. In terms of our debt, selling Dann is chicken feed. 1. I would love Brad Friedel back at the Rovers. Maybe in a player-coach role? But like Jermaine Jones, I think its a pipe dream. Though if it came true we would fly up the league table with those two. Not to mention that JJ and Friedel are more than able to keep any bad apples firmly in check. 2. If Dann is unhappy or wants a move, sell him.

roversfan99 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Dann hasn't shown any signs of wanting to leave, he has been committed at the back recently. No reason to sell.
pick32 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I think getting youngish players in on a 6month loan when they only have 12months left on there contract is the most sensible transfer plan since Hughes was here. Cairney, King and Gestede all signed this way and probably all 3 for around 1million is a real bargain.
RockinRover Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 It's called an agent's transfer plan. Also, Friedel would be an amazing signing, but not a long term option.
pick32 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I think with playoffs achievable we need to loan Kean out an bring in an experienced keeper someone Friedel, Sorensen or Westwood.
Brfcrule1 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 What players have we got out on loan at the moment, isn`t Orr due back or have we got shut?. Do you honestly believe we can rely on the donkey Orr? besides he is one of we must get rid off by hook or by crook how the clown kean thought paying him a 6 figure sum was a good idea I will never know. Ends this summer I think. We signed him jan 2012 on a 2.5 yr deal Terrible waste of dosh. Still, it's good that we're making signings we actually intend to use unlike Ribeiro who played how many games for us since joining?! Our priority absolutely needs to be a goalkeeper in this window because Kean and Eastwood are both a liability and Robinson is an unknown at the moment having been out so long. Oh so Eastwood makes a couple of mistakes and we discard him we can't go on dropping keepers like confetti that will do nothing for their confidence and out of all the options available Eastwood is by far the best imo his handling in the box is very good, yes he has had some howlers but so has all the others majority of the time he has been very good.
Neal Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Will Todd Kane return to Chelsea due to Adam Henleys superb form? Ha! We clearly haven't been watching the same player. Absolute garbage against Brum. I also mentioned Friedel in the summer, as a player coach would fantastic for the club. On the topic of Scott Dann... I'd drive him anywhere willing to pay what we paid. Not improved, worst centre back since Darren Peacock. Hanley has shown him up so many times this season, Dann can't jump and endlessly gives the ball away, he's a liability in my opinion.

You say that as if he has been performing well for years and has just had a brief loss of form. He has made quite a few errors, as well as many flaps in a short space of time. He is not the answer, and we cannot afford for our keeper to be making mistakes. I can understand why Portsmouth fans were shocked that we came in for him as they didn't rate him that highly from what I read, as he didn't impress that much. We need Robinson back or an experienced keeper because we need someone who the defence is comfortable with or it will cost us points between now and May. Also Eastwood's handling in the box is very good? Must have been watching different games.
Bucksrover Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Tricky situation for the rest of the transfer window in my opinion. I would be happy with no new arrivals as it stands, but we may need to sell a player with value to fund some deals which get players off the wage bill. Aside from Marrow and Judge I have been impressed with Bowyer's transfer dealings to date, but it is still a nervy time.
AJW Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 All this talk of Freidal but think we missed a trick in Shay Given, recently extedrnded his loan with Boro til end of Feb , tell me is there a better keeper in Championship ?
FGS5635 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 All this talk of Freidal but think we missed a trick in Shay Given, recently extedrnded his loan with Boro til end of Feb , tell me is there a better keeper in Championship ? Very true and it could be the difference between playoffs or not. To be fair though we may have tried to get him, who knows. Certainly a failed attempt isnt something you want public or it affects your other keepers. That said Brad is so much more to us than Shay. regardless of ability at this stage of their careers Brad would give the place a massive lift. Never going to happen, but we can dream I guess
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Robbo wasn't pulling any trees up before he dropped out of the team, and he's had a serious injury/illness since then. We've got three goalkeepers and if you rolled them all into one you wouldn't have a good 'un. For me ( and Bryan Clough ) goalkeeper is the most important position on the pitch. Nobody can lose you a game quicker. We need somebody who the back four can believe in. I don't care about the ones that fly into the top corner, just give me a guy who does the bread and butter stuff well.
jim mk2 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 None of the 3 goalkeeping options are satisfactory at present. Kean and Eastwood are both inexperienced and make too many unforced errors while Robinson has not played for a long time and looks to have gained weight. Poor goalkeeping has already cost of 6 points or more this season and the situation needs addressing now. It could be the difference between making the play-offs and staying in mid-table.

I'd say your being kind with 6 points. Hard to truly put a figure on it but I reckon its higher than 6. Hopefully Robbo plays v city and we can gauge where he is at

This is a load of bunkum in my opinion Neil, Hanley wouldn't be half the player we think he is without Dann marshalling him at his side. Couple that with unsettled full backs and keepers new to the side Danns doing a very good job. It's no surprise Premiership managers are after him, think about it. He's no world beater I'll give you that, but looking at our home defensive record says much about the defensive unit we have in place, why change that now, madness in my book.
chaddyrovers Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I think with playoffs achievable we need to loan Kean out an bring in an experienced keeper someone Friedel, Sorensen or Westwood. why would Friedel leave Spurs who are challenging 3 competitions??? Sorensen has playing for Stoke first team and got injured in their last game. i guess we didnt go for Given due to his 60k a week wages.
Ricky Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Well how have a broke Boro got him then Chaddy? There's no way in hell that they are paying him that!!!
Bucksrover Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Is Mark Bunn first choice at Norwich? He was looking good before he went. Robbo's wages may make it impossible to get a loan keeper in, but as with Etuhu, we have no chance of moving him on without paying him off.
SoldierMo Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I mentioned Bunn before biggg mistake letting him go
Bucksrover Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Who do people think we will manage to get off the books in this window? - I think Leon Best will be a focus for the club in terms of moving him on, and I would like to see Orr go as well. And which player of value would people accept us cashing in on if any?
JBiz Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I'd offer Best for free - any truth in the rumour he has had another outburst on instagram? I don't have an account
G Somerset Rover Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I'd offer Best for free - any truth in the rumour he has had another outburst on instagram? I don't have an accountI think it's a case of which one! The lads an absolute bell-end and has been having pop after pop at the club and fans. I hope he does leave this month, but he'll certainly be leaving with a pretty penny or two.
adsfortheblues Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Well how have a broke Boro got him then Chaddy? There's no way in hell that they are paying him that!!! Exactly what I was going to say.
FGS5635 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Its a real pity we arent rich enough to just let the fool rot and ruin his career. Fine him wages everrytime he does something stoopid
pick32 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 why would Friedel leave Spurs who are challenging 3 competitions? He is secound choice to the best keeper in English football and isn't getting younger.
