(although I do take in most home matches one way or another)

You mean Free Tickets ;) in which case most fans that are not bothering would still be going, eh Gord!

Well over Christmas I paid for City (obviously) and for Sheff Wed too whilst I watched the Brum match with a freebie from somebody from Cheshire who couldn't make it and whose ticket I use quite regularly when that is the case. Does that make me a bad person f-o-g?

It does not make you a bad person but it does call in to question your decision to give up the ST.

Surely one either takes a principled stand by not attending and not giving money to Venkys or one is happy to attend provided someone else pays most of the time?

Choosing the later means not taking a stand and being in no position to criticise those who stay away whether that is a result of a principled stand or simply an excuse for not going.

Depends whether one has principles or not.

No. He can justifiably say he is depriving Venky's of his season ticket money. It is only the same as not renewing and watching on TV or from up a tree..He doesn't have to set himself on fire or cut off his nose to spite his face. Win/win, as far as I can see.

Principles? Since the evil has gone and the air has cleared somewhat I am much more amenable to the situation. I'm even coming around to find a modicum of sympathy for the Venkymob. However you are a fine one to talk about principles after stating that you would be boycotting only to go all weak kneed at the death and succumb before sending your cheque eagerly off to Pune or Geneva or Glasgow or wherever it went. I stayed away cos I couldn't stomach the lies and deceptions provided by the first months of the Venky / Kean / Anderson rule. I identified the corrupt and evil forces at work, I knew where it would end and that 20 years of Jack Walkers input would be blown to the four winds. I simply could not support it nor could I put my money into supporting it. My principles meant that I spent time at many of the protests too before turning tail and going home*. Now you have the nerve to question my principles! Just where the hell do you keep yours?

*btw the one I missed was against Spurs and I was doing corporate that day. ^_^

On the contrary Paul I think Gordon is to be congratulated for not being so pig headed and stubborn that he lets his dislike of the owners cloud his ability to take up a gift horse in the form of a free ticket. Obviously however if he's on a freebie, he can't really be too critical of anyone not paying to attend but his views applied to the fanbase as a whole are generally correct imo. Apart from Lancs United!

Cracking prices at 15 quid for the replay. Will have to give that a go.

Postscript on the attendance issue, did I hear on the radio that 32 k Derby fans packed into Pride Park for the visit of Chelsea? Why the completely different attitude from their fans towards their tie compared to our attitude to ours? Their fans obviously didn't think it was too expensive after Christmas or that it was only the FA Cup etc.

If we could bottle the enthusiasm shown by the Derby fans for their tie and indeed the City fans for ours we'd be on to a winner.

Rev, Derby haven't had their heart and throat ripped out in recent times, as a city it is twice the size of Blackburn and as a club generally on an upward curve.

Please let it go for gods sake!

Draw another comparison with Burnley, what's their fan's excuse?

Just give it a rest, this is getting terribly dull and rather tedious.

Anyway, nice to see its on TV. Just hope its not too humiliating, especially as its pre watershed.

Why not have a go at the looney tunes instead of keep slagging fans off. It's pathetic rev. Your sounding silly now.

I hate to see anyone locating the responsibility in the fanbase. It is plain wrong

Ditto. Things have been improving since Kean and Anderson have been shown the door and Venkys appear to be making much more sensible decisions. All in all, I'm beginning to think they were misled, and were not corrupt.

And it will be a great replay. Our young squad has proved they can play with the best. That has to be a tremendous confidence boost, one they may have been lacking before the first Man City match.

I think you might be getting carried away a tad Steve.

Of course I am.

But this is the perfect time to fan the flames of hope. Our young squad really played like they are potential champions. I can't wait for the next match, whether its against a PL side or a Championship side, I think the Rovers under GB are up for it.

When did they last play in the PL and when did they? Question answered. Simply put, it was a bigger deal to them.

Pretty obvious really seeing as they get big home crowds in the championship even when they are crap. They've had some lean years but have a renewed sense of hope and are at the top of the division. Last season they were taking 2/3/400 hundred to some away games but their home crowds remained. Last week they took 6k to Barnsley. That's before you take into account the size of the place/area, easy to pull neutrals or casual fans for a big game from that catchment area.

I think we are all (mostly) united on who's to blame for our low crowds and its not the fans. Remember when we were relegated 1999? We largely kept our home support.

THE FANS ARE NOT TO BLAME.

Stop ttrying to completely misrepresent the point I was making 47er. I've never said that what has happened to the Club over the last few seasons was the fans fault.

My point related to the turnout for a one off game against prestige opposition and the likely implications of that for attendances in general in the future.
