Stuart Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 So, with our overpaid primadonnas in the PL not being up to much, if the England team was made up of only Football League players (Championship and below), who would be your 11 plus subs? Bit of a rush job but can anyone improve on this? GK Robinson - Rovers DF Konchesky - Leicester Dann - Rovers Shackell - Burnley Trippier - Burnley MF Stanislas - Burnley Barton - QPR Taylor - Rovers Marshall - Rovers ST Ings - Burnley Austin - QPR Subs GK Grant - Derby DF Kilgallon - Rovers DF Moore - Leicester DF Spurr - Rovers MF Lowe - Rovers MF Marney - Burnley ST Taylor-Fletcher - Leicester ST Martin - Derby Reserve GK Heaton - Burnley DF Mee - Burnley DF Simpson - QPR MF Williamson - Rovers MF Jenas - QPR MF Drinkwater - Leicester MF Danns - Leicester ST Campbell - Rovers ST Nugent - Leicester ST Ward - Derby

LDRover Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Good thread Stuart. I'd have Ince and Will Hughes in midfield rather than Stanislas and Marshall. Would definitely have Woodgate rather than Shackell as well.
the original david brent Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Campbell makes reserve yet Rhodes is not included?!! Edit!!! Forgot Rhodes is Scottish!
Backroom DE. Posted January 9, 2014 Backroom Posted January 9, 2014 Campbell makes reserve yet Rhodes is not included?!! This was my first thought as well, before remembering Rhodes is technically Scottish
roversfan99 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 McCarthy Trippier Pearce Dann Cresswell Ince Lansbury Barton Hughes Nugent Ings
Alan75 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Campbell makes reserve yet Rhodes is not included?!! Rhodes isnt English
LDRover Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Surely Dunny would have to be in as well. I'd have Eustace in as well so that's my 4 in midfield sorted. Robbo in goal and Ings and Nugent up front. Woodgate, Trippier, Cresswell and Dann at the back. Job done.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 -----------------McCarthy Trippier---Wilson---Woodgate---Cresswell -------Hughes---Barton---Dunn -----------Ince-----Ings-----Dyer ------------------------Gilks -------------Greer---Hanley---Berra Phillips---Bryson---Bridcutt---Cairney---Anya --------------McCormack---Rhodes That's the Scottish Championship side
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted January 9, 2014 Moderation Lead Posted January 9, 2014 Good thread. Robinson Trippier Dann Woodgate Konchesky Barton Ince Lansbury Hughes Marshall Ings
longsiders1882 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Honestly Shackell is much better than woodgate as he is today. Dunn, assuming fit, has to be in - can't be many better than him when he's fit and up for it.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted January 9, 2014 Moderation Lead Posted January 9, 2014 Fair points Longsiders, I was also tempted to put Heaton in, as my Burnley supporting mates have been raving about him this term!!
Bendrover Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 McCarthy Trippier Upson Wisdom/Dann Creswell Barton Ince Hughes Chalobah Phillips/Buckley Vaughan
Salgado Is A Hero Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Matty Phillips is Scottish if that's who you meant Buckley is a good shout though, might put him in ahead of Lloyd Dyer
Bendrover Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Forgot Phillips was 'scottish'. You could probaly come up with a good Scottish team that is actually English, e.g Rhodes, Bridcutt, Phillips, Cairney.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Yea you could. Like you could come up with a good non-British athletics team or non-English cricket team. That's probably different though.
bluebruce Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Cairney is still eligible for England if he decides to u-turn. I think the OP is...somewhat biased towards Rovers and Burnley though. We are not the two best sides in the Championship.
CapeTownRover Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Yea you could. Like you could come up with a good non-British athletics team or non-English cricket team. That's probably different though. if only England could compete as England at the Olympics *i know off topic* :-) in saying that, im surprised no place for Henley? is he not English?
bluebruce Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 if only England could compete as England at the Olympics *i know off topic* :-) in saying that, im surprised no place for Henley? is he not English? American-born, English raised, plays for the Welsh youth teams. Can play for any of the three. You'd think Wales would call him up and get him sealed for them, he's brimming with potential and Wales are crap. You'd think he could walk into their first team now let alone in the future, but not sure who they play at full back (he can play both sides remember).
somersetrover Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Steele Trippier Dann Hill Cresswell Powell Drinkwater Eagles Dunn Ince Nugent
Steve Moss Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 in saying that, im surprised no place for Henley? is he not English? Henley's American? I now know whose Rovers' shirt I'm buying next.
