He lacked pace from what I recall. You can see flashes of quality in the above video.

By the way, being a relative youngster at that time I don't really remember Johnson too much. He looked decent in that video, few good crosses and excellent play for his own goal.

Was he any good?

Not sure if it's true but I think there was a rumour flying around at the time that Sven had inquired about Damien Johnson's nationality after seeing him a couple of times for Rovers, or at least the West Ham game.
