Good work glen I'm sure this will end up taking off I can't see any solid reasoning as to why it wouldn't!

Thank you Glen (and all the others involved from our side) for all your hard work on this issue. As a post all-seater fan (I was 5 when the last bit of standing went from Ewood), I would love the opportunity to stand in a safe environment. Nothing has been more enjoyable then the trips to Peterborough last year, or Yeovil this. Its just a shame other countries are so far ahead of us, Germany has been doing this for years. Would love to see it in England! :rover:

On a side note, just read that article in the Telegraph. It says that Liverpool are the only club actively against safe standing, yet they are probably one of the worst, if not the worst offender of standing in seated areas. Every away game their entire support is stood and the Kop is also stood most matches-how does that fit it with having respect for Hillsborough?

Just caught a clip from someone from that Hillsborough campaign slating the move on the radio. She was basically saying it will be like the 70's and 80's, and people will die again.

I don't have a view either way, but I don't hear of German fans being carried away on stretchers every year. I think it would be a lot safer as there won't be massive fences at the front, and a lot of grounds have computerised systems that scan bar codes and keep a record of how many people enter the ground.

Not a fan of standing at matches - but respect those who want it. There should be room for those who want to stand or sit. But neither opinion should not be enforced.

Safe standing is about giving fans a CHOICE - those who wish to sit have ample areas to do so, as will those who wish to stand.

The only problem that will come, is if the club decide to implement it in the BBE lower (after a trial in the DE) and some people who were in the late 30's/early 40's when it was built and are now in their late 50's/ early 60's and may not wish to stand but will say WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO MOVE?

Personally I'd be in favour of the move...

You'd think the initial trial would be in the darwen end due to it being unreserved

I'm in favour of a standing area if only because it would hopefully take all those ignorant supporters who stand in front of fans who prefer to sit down. I've seen many arguments at matches where fans have stood in front of sitting fans and been abusive when politely requested to sit down. My fear is that allowing standing areas will see many fans use them as as an excuse to stand anyway - and the problem of standing fans in sitting areas will be exacerbated.

If only it was about common sense and personal choice?

This in addition to the ludicrous (but deemed necessary ) arrangements for the Burnley game are examples of the 'nanny state'.

If only there were moral values, mutual respect and self restraint?

Only ever sat at a handful of games, not a fan of it at all. I think safe standing is an option that should be available for those who want it.

To be fair, Loons have removed this problem by removing 10,000 fans - plenty of room to sit wherever!

I don't understand these people from the Hillsborough campaign... the crush was due to too many people being allowed in one area (ie overcrowding). If that particular area had seats instead and the same number of people were let it, then the same thing would have happened surely?

The point being - Hillsborough was not caused by terracing, but negligence by allowing it to become overcrowded. Of course the fences probably played a part with people not being able to escape.

Great news on the consulation btw. Fully supportive of the safe-standing campaign. As mentioned by others the obvious choice if a trial was to happen at Ewood would be the Darwen End lower due to the current unreserved policy and also to give away fans choice of standing or seating.

Whilst you dont agree with their logic, its surely obvious why the Hillsborough campaign are against it. Personally having seen the suggested seating / standing at Leverkusen, I'd be keen for a trial especially in a low attendance game (the seating element i think is enforced in larger attended games). Replacing the top 10 rows in the lower half of the Darwen End (home fans), would be an ideal trial for me.

An interesting debate.

I prefer sitting, but am happy to stand every now and again. If you go to away games you pretty much don't have a choice! Unless you sit at the front of the stand.

What to do on price? Cheaper to stand than to sit? How do you split up the standing/seating areas?

The obvious choice would be to turn the lower tier Blackburn End into a standing area, but this would no doubt anger a large proportion of the fans who sit in the stand at the moment. Also, with the increased numbers in the Darwen End, would they move to stand in the Blackburn End? Would you make both ends standing only?

Throws up a lot of interesting quesitons.

Agreed.

Our club is on the bones of our ass. Where do people think the millions will come from to implement this at Ewood..will never happen in our life time, and most town clubs could never afford this..

Posted

And with a lot of clubs spending a lot of money to accommodate an all seated stadium.. This one move could be the death of English football. As we all no if things go bad things can change very quickly.

Posted

And it's all good and well Derek Shaw supporting this. Though we all know Derek wouldn't know his ass hole from his mouth.. You go Derek, some people are really so clueless.

If it gets full approval, the move should be paid by way of a grant from the FA imo.

Posted

Why should it even be necessary?

A retrograde step in my view. A pointless expenditure.

Because it would stop the selfish ones from standing in front of the ones who want to sit. If the two are separated the problem goes away and everyone is happy.
