[Archived] Areas in Blackburn

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was hoping someone could please advise me there is a good chance I will get offered properties in the following areas

1. Roe Lee, Topaz St, BB1,

2. Audley, Dundee Drive,BB1

3. Oak Grove, Darwen, BB3,

4. Birch Hall, Darwen BB3.

Could anyone please advise me what are peoples experiences of these areas?.

A long time ago I used to live in Darwen but I have not been back there for quite a while is it still reasonably safe?.

I know it has been given a bit of a facelift in terms of new restaurants and the new market.

Any advice is gratefully appreciated thanks Savio

topaz street is a very good location, you're very lucky if you've been offered a place there, I have family in that area its a minute from the park, there's a Tesco's metro, newsagents, a few good takeaways a few other shops and a GPs surgery all within a few minutes walk.

topaz street itself is quite a steep little hill though, I don't know if that's an issue for you, it is quite open with plenty of street lighting though.

Thanks all for replying T.J. soz I should have made it clear I have not yet been offered a place on Topaz Street it is one of the places that came up this week & was just gageing opinion.

Seeing as I have jumped up to band 2 on the council's list I stand a very good chance with a lot of properties.

I will probably definitely go for Topaz St & Birch Hall both seem very nice 1 bed flats ground floor & both with a garden.

Hopefully with a bit of luck I get offered the one up Roe Lee 1st.

Thanks Willie yes good bus links are essential.

Thanks Mike for your reply on FB Roe Lee sounds like a really nice area so will def go for that one .

Thanks Al good to hear Brownhill being a nice area.

TJ tks for the warning about the hill I don't think that should prove too much of a problem so long as buses run down there quite frequently I should be ok good to hear there is a tesco metro, GP's & takeaways near by seems ideal.

Hopefully I get offered it.

Birch Hall first.

Disregard the rest.

I have lived for 10 years near Brownhill and 10 years near Birch Hall. It Is staggering how much Roe Lee has declined in the last 15 years. The whole of north Blackburn (which includes Roe Lee) would be a no go for me.

just your opinion, many would disagree.

no idea about birchall, but my parents have lived up roe lee for the last 25 years so obviously I have lived up their when I was younger and still spend plenty of time up there, compared to the other 2 areas of Blackburn that I have lived in(shadsworth and now longshaw) Roe lee always seems much tamer by comparison, like every area of every town in the world though, your always going to get the odd knobsack residents, but Topaz street is a very quiet street with mainly middle aged couples, retired couples and a few sort of upper-working class families, most of which live in privately owned houses.

Didnt know where to put this but the cheap looking relaid tarmac over the cobbles on Darwen street between radio Lancs and the cathedral looks pretty shabby indeed.

All in all dreadful work from the council and the contractor employed that just brings the tone of the area down. Just hope its a short term temporary fix.

this was in the local news(LT) a few weeks ago, it was only meant as a temporary fix and should be getting re-laid properly soon(so they say!)

You mean they will replace the cobbled stones not relay more tarmac.

They're not cobbles, they are sets.

Cobbles are the stones that are used in a lot of the walls and pavements in Lytham. Sets are usually quarried granite.

Coronation Street has sets not cobbles.

I'll get my coat (anorak).

Unfortunately the flats in Topaz street & Birch Hall have fallen through slipped way down the list. However there is a very good chance I will get offered a place on whitebirk road round the corner from the last whitebirk place ground floor with a garden I think from what people said before it seems like a fairly good area and this place is very near to Intack and Accy Road any further info ppl can give on the area would be appreciated. Tom can you please confirm the Balti House in rishton delivers to whitebirk road I think you said they deliver to most of whitebirk pls confirm.

Don't think you'll be short of buses there, Savio. You are right next to the bus depot!

You should be ok on the main road there I would have thought. Beware though, McDonald's is in too close a walking distance!! :D As far as amenities, it's pretty good. Bit of a stretch to walk to Tesco from there - unless you cut down Hereford Road - but there's a newsies on Accrington Road that sells a few groceries, and a choice of TWO barber shops! (Unless you are a clippers man, like me :lol:)

If they ever develop Whitebirk industrial estate (a la Deepdale) like they've been threatening to - amid complaints from it would take business from Accrington - you'll be laughing.

Got to be honest with you, I wouldn't say Whitebirk Rd is fairly good, more like fairly poor in my view.

Not the worst area of Blackburn but as far as council property areas go, closer to the bottom of the list than the top, I'd say.

Think the talk previously was regarding being on the edges of the Estate towards the intack side or top of Devon Road or on the Intack estate (as it was classed, hamer Ave Peronne Cres etc) was a better area than in the middle of the Whitebirk estate
