Personally, I don't see the point of bringing people in at this stage. We are safe from relegation and unlikely to reach the play-offs. With the main aim of this season being to reduce the wage bill and stabilise in the Championship then it seems silly to waste another wage for someone to sit on the bench. If Kilgallon or Hanley were injured or suspended then simply bring O'Songo back to play out the remaining games. In any event we are only likely to attract a youngster who is playing reserve football to come and sit on the bench and play for our own reserves. Under those circumstances you might as well have Edwards, as poor as he is, sitting on the bench.

But he clearly doesn't rate Songo. In one game Songo was on the bench and Dann (I think) went off injured. Instead of bringing Songo on he put Lowe at centre half. One of the kids should come back as cover and maybe when the play-off ship has sailed give them some game time.

If he doesn't rate Songo'o why did he bring him in?

Pointless signing in that case. If we've kids in the youth team, why not promote them rather than signing pointless cover?

.

I know what you are saying but as to that issue could it be because we have loads of midfielders to fill in for Lowe and only 1 specialist left back?

The squad does have an unbalanced look about it but it is an easy one to address in my opinion. I think it was Allardyce who said he wanted two players for every position and a couple of versatile players in his 25 man squad.

Observing Allardyce manage here I think he saw only about 5 positions in the team that he regarded as 'specialist' and which he needed at least two options for... GK, CH CM and CF. Every other position he filled with utility players. He might have had a squad of 25 but barring injury he only appeared to want to use 17/18 of them at any one time.

The clueless Venkymob under the tutelage of Anderson and his puppy Kean blew that sensible practice to smithereens and in the opinion of many for non footballing reasons. As Kean has now moved on to a luxury apartment in the tax haven of Brunei, where he can best look after his 'investments' and no doubt 'enjoy' a chosen lifestyle of the obnoxious perrenially keaned up braggart that we all saw in THAT video we and the indian goons are left counting the cost.

Imo any ambition the club has at present is simply to survive. The financial maelstrom that is about to hit will make the clubs position in any Div a secondary issue. Common sense tells us that we must be in a sh1t or bust situation. We aren't out of the play off race yet but we must go all out for wins from here on in. A single season in the Prem under parsimonious management and only then when we get relegated can we talk sensibly about stabilising in the Championship.

You're saying the same as me Gord.

no need unless Hanley or Kilgallon got an injury tbh it seems be. Spurr can play there.

The next two posts start to sum up why there really is a need. Would you really be happy with Lowe in there? Has he the positional sense or the heading ability? Has Spurr been trusted with playing there at all? If not what does that suggest? What are the odds of us needing someone to fill in (fairly good I'd say - Baz sums it up well)?

Added to which this is a pretty specialist position. I can't think of many natural full backs who do well at center half. I know you want to be positive but only having two center backs is a heck of a clanger. You always need to play with two, so only having two in the squad is a horrible mistake.

Personally Id have thought its a pretty big priority. Defences need to train together to work as a unit. I see a centre-half as a specialist position, not one where some-one can "do a job" (other than for a few minutes). Got Varney in as soon as we could, had Neill on trial for weeks, other centre halves out on loan. Its not as though Kilgannon has never had an injury or Hanley had a suspension is it?

We seem to have some daft priorities at times.

The centre half issue angers and frustrates me. We have had three weeks to bring somebody in or bring one of the loanees back. Instead it looks like Bowyer will use Lowe again should the need arise. If Spurr can play there why has Bowyer used Lowe twice this season ahead of him? Once again it brings Bowyer's capabilities into question.

Spot on. Only thing is we're clearly not doing this. Which makes me wonder why? It seems like it's promotion or bust, it seems like the only solution is promotion, but we're not exactly busting a gut for it.

Either somehow we're not in promotion or bust - and I cannot see how, but that is what fits the strategy. Or we've not grasped the seriousness of the situation, and what we're seeing is one of the worst pieces of mismanagement in the entire sorry time Venkys have been here, as we fail to make for the only possible escape route.

Regarding a centrehalf. It is obvious that we need back up. But to sign one now whilst both Kilgallon and Hanley are fit would be difficult.

How many decent players would come here to sit on the bench. There was talk of signing Craig Dawson, he played in West Broms first team against Chelsea last week. There was no way he would have come here to sit on the bench. If one of our centrebacks were to be injured today I would think that a decent replacement could be signed on loan for a month, who would be gauranteed a starting place.

The main problem would be if we had to play 45 minutes or so with players out of position. However Evans has played there a lot in his career. So maybe Bowyer doesn't see potential injuries as a short term problem.

I thought is was Steve Kean who said it after replacing Big Sam. He went onto to sign dross in every position.

At this moment CB are covered. As they are 'Emergency' loans Bowyer is probably waiting until it becomes an emergency.

Australia captain Lucas Neill has joined Watford until the end of the season.

The 35-year-old, who has 96 caps, impressed while training with the squad as a free agent. He had been without a club since leaving J-League side Omiya Ardija in November.

"I want to add my experience to the Watford squad and I'm hoping that some of my natural leadership skills can benefit the group here," the former Millwall, Blackburn, West Ham and Everton defender told watfordfc.com.

"I'm highly motivated to keep playing. There's still a huge passion within me for football."

Watford, who sit 12th in the second-tier Championship, host Blackpool on Saturday

A lad i know goes to the same gym as Josh Morris and he told him he had signed a new 2 1/2 year deal the last time he came back from loan,

said himself that he was shocked by it and thought he was finished at Rovers.

Not good enough from what I've seen. Last I saw him I think was when we played everton in the friendly pre-season. He came on at half time at left back, just as Seamus Coleman came on on right wing. Suffice to say he got absolutely mullered for 45mins. Never got close to him for strength, pace, ability..... anything

Jonathan Douglas on the form he showed in our relegation battle would get into our current team.

So would Jon Stead and Lorenzo Amoruso. Form is temporary, as we're discovering with Rhodes atmo. Hopefully he shows us that class is permanent.
