[Archived] Next Season

Recommended Posts

So, the end of this season draws nearer and nearer and now its mainly about planning for next season, considering ours is over. I thought I'd start this thread for people to discuss how they'd like to see the club move forward from this rather average (at best) season.

A few things to think about:

What changes would you like to see at Rovers?

Is Gary Bowyer a man with a plan? Do you think he can get us promoted?

Who would you like to see leave? (besides Venkys... err i mean... The Rao's)

What are your expectations for next season?

Personally, I'd like to see Etuhu & Best moved on and I'd like to see Henley sent out on loan for a full season somewhere. I'd like to see us buy a proper right back, sell Jason Lowe whilst he is an England under 21 'star' and re-invest in either Ritchie at Bournemouth or Adam Clayton at Huddersfield.

Not a chance of Bowyer taking us to promotion , end of season thanks Gary , go back to the youth team .Nice bloke but not a football manager ...

IMO, I will give Bowyer another season for sure. he is building a good squad here that willing challenge for promotion next season. IMO, the last thing we need is more upheavel and massive overhaul of the squad.

we have 15 or 16 players here at the minute who should be next season and give us a chance of promotion.

I defo wouldn't sell Rhodes or Lowe at all and defo don't expect it to happen.

Hope we get rid of Williamson, Etuhu, Best and a lot of the players who are out on loan but NOT any of O'Connell. O;Connor and Forrester and probably O'Sullivan aswell.

we need to add or 5 players to that squad and will be up there challenging for promotion.

Only change is get the chicken hugging lunes out and give us our club back whether it be in the championship or conference .

And replaced by who Abbey? What about our debt? Never mind whose fault that debt is the plain fact is that we have it against us. Our ticket sales won't even cover the wages never mind running costs of the club and neither would it even put dent in the interest accrued by our debt. We truly would be up @#/? creek without a paddle. Venkys = Damned if we do and damned if we don't. Our one and only hope post venkymob is to quote Alan Sugar find 'a rich idiot with a death wish'. Can you see any?

I'm curious...

Before Christmas you posted a message saying you had it on extremely good authority that administration and the ensuing points deduction would take place in the spring.

Has this view changed and, if so, is it for any reason beyond the recent appointment of Alan Myers etc?

If there's to be any sort of future, IMO we're stuck with the Raos purely down to finances.

Again IMO, that depends on how FFP maps out and how serious the Raos are in attempting to right their wrongs.

Ultimately if it's "financial fair play", what difference should it make if a financial injection into a club comes as either cash from an investor with a vested interest in a particular club or via parachute payments from The Premier League? Both are propping up a club financially beyond its natural means aren't they?

It's difficult to look beyond next month unless we're financially secure. If FFP is enforced in its current format, we're probably knackered anyway with or without Venkys.

Not sure Bowyer will survive a defeat on Sunday .....

Too negative and tactically very poor , the fact we are 9th speaks volumes for how poor the league is , not how good Bowyer is !

I know games are not won on paper, but in all honesty there is enough in this squad to have been comfortably in the top 6. Bowyer has been good in the transfer market, well apart from his center half howler, but fundamental mistakes by him have cost us games we should have won.

Im a Bowyer fan, but think that maybe an experienced manager might be good in some sort of DOF role to guide Bowyer. I still like Curbishley even though the Fulham plan didnt go according to plan.

More like Black at Blackpool eh? :P

Id settle for a new rovers starting non league if tho turds go...i really do hope a sink hole opens up in pune and swallows everything Venky and they all suffer a million deaths.

IMO tactically Bowyer isn't poor - just at the moment he is, like the team, hit and miss. There are lots of examples where he has got it right - but similarly lots where he has got it wrong. We have had the reverse of Burnley's luck with injuries - I would give him until next christmas - there can be no doubt that injuries have severely impacted our season.

Abbey, do you mean setting up a new Rovers club that's starts in the non league???

if so, this isn't Blackburn Rovers then is it? with all the history that goes with being with our founder members of the football league and being a football club of 139 years.

Can I ask you why you wouldn't sell Lowe?

I think Lowe is a good player and good squad member. defensively he is good. need to improve attacking wise but still is ONLY 22/23 years old. still 4 or 5 years away from his peak. plenty of time to improve yet

Great idea for a thread, nothing like a bit of optimism and forward-thinking. Certainly beats wallowing in self-pity.

I like Cape Town's idea about a DoF coming in, I reckon Bowyer should also get a bit of time to see if he can get a good run together and have a really good crack at promotion. Next season however I think promotion is a must, it was always going to be a tall order this season but I think the groundwork has been done and hopefully the good this season will outweigh the bad that has already happened. Obviously some more options at centre back are needed, I am looking forward to seeing how Keane performs for the rest of the season, could be excellent if we have any chance of keeping him on a permanent deal. Also looking forward to Evans having a full term to show us how he can run a midfield.

I think bowyer has been excellent in the transfer market and has got the right idea...tactically he has been found wanting a few times..i think injuries have played a MASSIVE part...this sunday we have up to 7 players injured or not fully fit whereas burnley have a full squad. Still think GB deserves next season especially if he can keep this squad together...its all about consistency just look at leicesters squad

Is he? Aren't we the worst tacklers at home in the league? My point is why not sell him for decent profit whilst he's an England under 21 international and replace him with an obviously better player like Ritchie or Clayton? Because they are obviously better player than him.

Ritchie is a winger not a centre midfielder..

Clayton is a v.good player I totally.agree. but will Huddersfield sell? IMO, Would cost far too much sadly.

bigger question is what the budget for Transfers and wages???

IMO, Transfer budget very small.

IMO, maybe use the transfer budget for free transfers for 4 or 5 signings on low wages around 12k.per person.
