What are your favourites?

Aside from the classics like Jack the Ripper, DB Cooper, the Zodiac Killer, etc. I'm going to dedicate this thread to some of

my favourite cases:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taman_Shud_Case
Also known as “Mystery of the Somerton Man”, this unidentified dead guy was found on an Australian beach in 1948, he was dressed in a suit and carried no ID, and all the labels on his clothing had been removed. During an examination of the body they found a note with the cryptic message 'Tamam Shud", which is a Persian phrase loosely translated as "The End". An autopsy of the corpse could not determine the cause of death.

A month later police discovered a brown suitcase that had been abandoned at Adelaide Railway station believed to belong to the man. It contained articles of clothing that had also had their labels removed, as well as a stencil kit, an electrician's screwdriver, a modified table knife, and scissors.

Who on earth was this guy? A secret agent? It sounds like something out of a spy novel and that probably isn't too far from the truth.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voynich_manuscript

The Voynich manuscript - named after the bookdealer Wilfrid Voynich who purchased it in 1912 - is an illustrative book written in an undecipherable language. It seems to be dated around the early 1400s. The only idea anyone has of its origin are its bizarre drawings which are dedicated to biology, astronomy, and cosmology. Is it just elegant gibberish or does it contain a secret message?

The Batman Rapist

Britains longest-running rape investigation is code-named Operation Eagle and has been going on for 22 years. Authorities have spent that time attempting to catch an unidentified sexual predator who is responsible for at least 17 attacks, all but one of which have taken place within the city of Bath. The assailant first struck on May 21, 1991, when he attacked a 36-year-old woman returning home in her car. His modus operandi consists of attacking women in their vehicle and forcing them to drive to a secluded area at knifepoint, where he then proceeds to rape them. After one unsuccessful attack in 1999, the assailant left behind a hat with the Batman logo on it, which led to him being dubbed the Batman Rapist.

One of the rapists most bizarre characteristics is an apparent tights fetish. He will often force the victim to remove their underwear and put their tights back on, so that he can rip through them to rape her. On one occasion, the victim wasnt wearing tights, so he forced her to put on a pair he had brought with him. In 2000, he even attempted to abduct a woman who had her seven-year-old daughter in the car, but she managed to get away.

During the mid-nineties, there were a few long gaps when the rapist was inactive, leading authorities to suspect that he has attacked other victims who never came forward. There is currently a substantial reward for the capture of the Batman Rapist, but his identity still remains unknown.

The Unsolved Unwriiten Short Novels On How Venkys Are Allowed To Rape The Rovers by multiple authors

Obviously the concept of ICBINF is a little more literal for some than others.

Take the VENKY'S OUT drivel elsewhere, bucko.

"All identification marks on the clothes had been removed but police found the name "T. Keane" on a tie, "Keane" on a laundry bag and "Kean" (without the last e) on a singlet".

Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh!

(Great idea for a thread, btw).

What happened to Shergar ? And the crew of the Marie Celeste ?

Mary Celeste can be reasonably explained. There was probably a problem with the cargo, notably the leaking booze barrels, which the captain feared would cause an explosion. They made for the lifeboat and got cut adrift. It was five months later that a raft was found off the coast of Spain with five decomposed bodies on it, one wrapped in the American flag. Most likely the remains of Captain Briggs and his crew.

Allegedly pirate treasure at the bottoom of it but nobody is able to reach it.

Read that link last night. I can't help but feel as though I lost 15 minutes I'll never get back. I kept waiting for the punchline only to find there wasn't one!
