tomphil Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Has Kilgallon played this pre-season or is he injured ? He was on the bench on Saturday, he's had some game time pre season. I was hoping they are just giving Duffy some games to get fit but I think we know which way this is going to go. Bowyer bought Duffy to put these two together so I can see him trying to justify it again. Plus it's the old development/value line coming into play again and that comes first these days. Hopefully he'll see sense and make Killa first choice with one of the others but even then he'd probably start swapping them around. I just expect more of what we saw last season in the centre of defence. Sadly no Baps to pull us out of the sheet this time.

Backroom Mike E Posted August 4, 2015 Backroom Posted August 4, 2015 Yeah, OK Perth. When we won the PL, we had Sherwood, Shearer and Hendry, - all of whom were leaders. It didn't really matter which one had the strip of material around his arm, that's my point. Think about the Hughes teams too. Full of potential leaders. Friedel, Nelsen, Sav, Tugay, Dunn, Neill, Todd, Samba, Mokoena, Reid, Warnock.
Iceman Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Should Abbey be hating on Venkys? Okay stupid question that But Hanley captain? Nah, loose cannon, poor defender, will cost us loads of points, and never ever was a born leader.
perthblue02 Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Are you talking about the Eastwood thing? Wasn't it Scott Dann who did it? Thinking about it and when Eastwood had a run of games, I think you are right , was not long after that he went to Palace.
JAL Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Grant for the captaincy for me until that is Rovers find another leader on the pitch.
JAL Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Killgallon would make a great captain JAL Not for Rovers he's weak.
JAL Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Hanley for a big guy is weak Jal. Hes far stronger than Killgallon Iceman. Grant needs better coaching and management to progress his game.
Iceman Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 It's not just about strength JAL, its also about being smart and able to keep a cool head. As a leader, you have to set an example, and thus far he is not ready yet to lead a team. Agree, he needs to be managed properly, but right now, somebody who won't lose their cool need to be captain
OJRovers Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I wouldn't have Hanley in the team, certainly not captain. Who is vice-captain? Lowey?
LewisF Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I wouldn't have Hanley in the team, certainly not captain. Who is vice-captain? Lowey? Rhodes or Killgallon I think
matt83 Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Bring them down from within. After being disappointed to lose cairney, gestede, Rhodes eventually. Being concerned my losing Marshall I'm actually happy with the prospect of getting shut of Hanley. Knowing my luck we'll lose all of the above but keep Hanley. That said I think a decent manager could do something with Hanley but with bowyer sell sell sell
Bucksrover Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Don't think we have many that look like Captain material. Would probably say Kilgallon (has a composed authority) or Conway (tenacious and great work ethic)
donnermeat Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Bring them down from within. That made me chuckle!
TBTF Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 That made me chuckle! That made me chuckle! a sort of playing version of John Bond-awesome idea!
Gav Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Despite being one of Hanleys biggest critics on here I have to hold my hands up and say I think he's starting to show signs of real improvement, he may yet just become a quality centre back everyone thought he would. I'm sure the fact he's got a settled partner in defence is helping but his all round game has improved, from distribution to positional play it's getting better. He was asked on Saturday if he could imagine turning out from burnley after the 2 bids in the summer, he gave the Sky reporter a right glare and replied with a firm 'No' Good on you Grant.

Agreed, he went right up in my estimation with that. Still looks like he's angling for a set too off the ball a bit often though.
Blue blood Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Not sure captain material though the improvement in form from last season is appreciated! Take tonight ended up squaring up to the Italian forward. Then there was the trip on Barton. Imo he's not the nous to be a captain. Problem is as shown when Hanley went off who would you have as captain. Kills took the armband but he rarely plays. No stand out candidates Imo which makes it harder. Don't think Hanley is the answer though.
Backroom DE. Posted October 29, 2015 Backroom Posted October 29, 2015 He's good enough for this level, and if he continues to improve and sorts out his temperament may well get a crack at the PL again in the future. At the moment our overall defensive play is more concerning than the individuals. We seem totally unprepared for set pieces and at times get completely caught out when attempting to push forward. I'd say in the past it's been as much the midfield failing to protect the back four as the defenders themselves being at fault. Hopefully Akpan can be the protector between defence and midfield that has been needed for so long.
