Backroom Tom Posted October 29, 2015 Backroom Posted October 29, 2015 He's been a lot better this season, his judgement is an issue though too often he gets caught under a ball or tries to shepherd a ball out that never will. He also likes to wind up but at the same time winds himself up. However last season he was a liability, so far this season that doesn't seem the case at all and is doing a decent job along with Duffy

Baz Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Nowt wrong with a centre-half having a bit of aggression IMO and especially standing up for his teammates. He just needs to keep the lid on. If he'd got a reaction from Barton on Saturday and got him sent-off, he'd be lauded for that. Still remember the media calling us bully-boys, and thinking what's so bad about that.

Pedro Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Despite being one of Hanleys biggest critics on here I have to hold my hands up and say I think he's starting to show signs of real improvement, he may yet just become a quality centre back everyone thought he would. I'm sure the fact he's got a settled partner in defence is helping but his all round game has improved, from distribution to positional play it's getting better. He was asked on Saturday if he could imagine turning out from burnley after the 2 bids in the summer, he gave the Sky reporter a right glare and replied with a firm 'No' Good on you Grant. I was a massive critic of him too. He has been a real positive of the season so far. Keep it up. Fingers crossed I'm wrong about Bowyer too!
Mattyblue Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 He's still a bit immature and petulant, but nothing wrong with a bit of nastiness in a central defenders game. Shoving the security guard to one side in desperation to get back on the pitch. Great stuff.

Shoving the security guard to one side in desperation to get back on the pitch. Great stuff. Well I thought he was immense last night. And I loved his grin, when he and the Leeds player were "touching heads"! Reminded me of Big John McNamee....
AllRoverAsia Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I know I shouldn't but I did like the way he shoved the Leeds heavy out of the way when going into the tunnel for treatment.

joey_big_nose Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 He's had a good season so far. However I'm still not convinced he is really the leader of the team. The players don't look to him in that way in my opinion, and to be honest he quite often looks on the backfoot. More of a aggressive cheerleader rather than a proper captain. Of the players we have Guthrie looks the most natural leader to me. Knows how the team should play and where people should be, and has the passion and experience. However his injury record means a promotion to captain is not really practical. Hopefully Hanley will continue to grow into the role and cut out the dirty stuff.
