West Yorks Rover Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Brighton will be pleased with that, stopped the rot for them after 3 straight losses(and no goals scored) Says it all really. Next up Ipswich for us, who beat them 0-2 at their place last week. That'll be 1 in 9 then !
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Roll on the end of this season and I can forget all about football.
Backroom Mike E Posted April 1, 2014 Backroom Posted April 1, 2014 Buck has to stop with Bowyer for not dealing with that tactical switch after the penalty imo. Certainly wouldn't say that was a case of the players 'switching off'. All in all we played ok with some sprinklings of class. But that reluctance to push on crept in again around the 80th minute and yet again it cost us.
davulsukur Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Bah, kept tabs on the game till half time then had a 5 aside game. Came back and saw the result, not good enough at all. 1 in 8 is terrible form.
BooyakaSha Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Putting the Stab in Stability. Removing the "ability" (to win a game) for the sake of stability you mean! Once I managed a team that won a game.. Brother can you spare a dime?
Mike Graham Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Just got in. Hate to say this but: 1. Inept defending 2. Poorly set up,team by Bowyer 3. Baffling substitutions by Bowyer 4. Lots and lots of angry fans 5. A real attendance of circa 7,000 , probably less (not a single part of the ground had 25% capacity) The positives included great work by Spurr for our second goal. This must be Robbo's last season. A sad night.
Neal Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Genuine question to any in support of Bowyer... How much more time do you think he should get?
tomphil Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 If we take this model of stability into next season then we'll draw half the games and lose more than we win out of the others. I wonder where that will leave us this time next season. Even as we are now and retaining this squad manager etc it would be no surprise to see us scrapping relegation
Backroom Tom Posted April 1, 2014 Backroom Posted April 1, 2014 A few more random thoughts We started the game awfully and deservedly went behind then took our chance on a set piece and started to grow into the game then scored a really good second goal. Second half we came out and for 30 minutes or so controlled the game comfortably then Evans went off and Lua Lua came on and we failed to adapt to their change of style resulting in a soft goal. We got our overdue penalty and should have seen it out no problem but let them straight back in. -I thought Williamson was superb in the middle he and Conway were the stand out players tonight. -Brighton were pretty abysmal whenever we stepped up and went at them -the ref did a good job overall and gave us everything at one point but should have got his cards out earlier their right back could have recieved 3 or 4 bookings on another night - I'm going to have a stable supper now, maybe some dry toast
rovers11 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 It's surprising how we are now banging in the goals but shipping them as well. Earlier in the season, we were keeping clean sheet after clean sheet at home but could barely score a goal. The emphasis now seems to be on outscoring the opposition rather than a focus on keeping clean sheets. Personally, I prefer the more attacking approach and think it will prove more fruitful long term. The problem we had before is that if we conceded the first goal you just knew we wouldn't come back. You always fancy us to score nowadays but equally you always fancy us to concede. Need to get the balance right.
glen9mullan Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Didn't manage to go tonight due to working away , managed to listen to it on Rovers player and it sounded like we played well, although never really listened to rovers player before so it may have been a bias view ? Does seem though that the few post I have seen around the net bar the usual mr n mrs positive appear quite disappointed with the performance ?
1864roverite Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Very frustrated with that game, we should have won it out of sight. Keeping it short. Robinson at fault for goals 1 and 2. Beaten again at his near post twice ! Should have saved the first and should have caught the ball from the corner. Poor tactics from Bowyer, baffling subs. Defending at the end was awful.
LDRover Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Very much like the Burnley game that. A goal up and on top, pressing high up the pitch forcing errors from their back 4 and another goal there for the taking. Opposition manager makes a tactical change on 60 mins, we go deeper and deeper until the inevitable happens. We wake up, apply some pressure and get another only to not lay a glove on them after the restart and concede again. Again, no leadership apparent on or off the pitch. Brighton, another poor team in this league, leave with a point when they should've been soundly beaten.

He's probably the best impact player in the league. He has turned many games for Brighton this season.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Can't agree re Williamson. Thought he looked very laboured and one dimensional. Game changed when we stopped pressing up the pitch. No coincidence that this was just after dunn went off..ala Burnley.
arbitro Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 We were at our best and on top when we pressed high up the pitch but we should have been doing this from the first to the last minute. I would love to know what the scouting report about Brighton actually said because for the opening period of the game we let them play their passing game without any pressure. The game kind of summed up our season which has at times promised so much but ultimately will deliver nothing. It also showed Bowyer up for the barren tactician that he is. I'm convinced that we will be talking about exactly the same things this time next year as he just doesn't seem to be improving or more importantly learning.
tomphil Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 looking at the game as a whole we started like we usually do for nearly 20 mins, ponderous and cautious, same old crap. No surprise to be a goal down and we didn't really threaten till the equaliser. If they'd have gone 2 nil up I reckon the #### would have hit the fan tonight. It's all right saying we were playing well when in front and pressing but that's natural momentum. the point is he sends them out the same way from the off every time, that's what is being coached on the training ground that's the system of play that gets us in trouble more often than not. It's tosh !
Doug Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Strange game, second best for most of first half, but better team in second. Very soft goal to concede at the end, players switched off. King must play instead of the poor Williamson if we want to win games. Robbo appeared to be beaten on his near post too easily for first two. Anyway, there are definate positive signs with our young team.
No Nay Never Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Genuine question to any in support of Bowyer... How much more time do you think he should get? Till Xmas time and if we aren't challenging then fair enough, I might start blaming him for everything as a few on here do.

No coincidence that this was just after dunn went off..ala Burnley.IMO the injury jinx struck again - if Evans had stayed on I am sure we woudlnt hsve dropped off so much. Do agree about Williamson - did the odd good thing but on the whole was overrun - having to make last minute challenges as he struggled to keep up with the game.
roverandout Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 what positive signs doug? that we cant defend a lead? no tactical nous? a useless manager? rely on one player to score the goals?
