jim mk2 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 A bit harsh that. I had no idea we played last night. From reading a few pages here I think we drew but am not 100% on it. It gets repeaeted ad nauseum but the owners actions since they bought BRFC have effectively killed the club. I live overseas and used to watch roughly 75% of games when we were a Premier League side. Now I can't be bothered. I have no interest in following a mid table Championship side run by idiots, managed by a competent yet unspectacular novice, and containing a load of players I've never heard of. I'll always be a Rovers fan, but don't have to put up with dross. Meanwhile the diehards who were here decades before Jack Walker arrived will still be here (god willing) decades after Venky's have departed. It's called commitment.

No Nay Never Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Slight overreaction by many on our season in my opinion, and this has been mainly brought on by the defeat at Bolton and more so the home defeat to Burnley. I understand people being upset by the performances v Bournemouth a couple of other games, but who honestly thought we would be in the top six this season (outside chance at best), if you did then you didn't see enough of us last season, it was never ever going to be a one summer rebuilding job and I'm shocked more people don't realise that. I understand people saying "the club sold this as a promotion push" which to an extent they did, but imagine the uproar had they come out and said "Small chance we might get in play offs but probably going to be mid table" how many season tickets would have been sold then? Fully understand why people would be calling for Bowyers head and sadly that's the way football has gone these days, but for me as I stated earlier in the post it was never a one summer rebuilding job so therefore GB is only halfway through his task.

No Nay Never Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 So you honestly thought that we would be mid table yet still bought the season ticket, bit of a contradiction there, the club were still trying to sell the play off scenario up to a week ago My pre-season prediction was 10th yes. I bought a season ticket because I am a supporter of Blackburn Rovers whatever league they maybe in and wherever they play - you make it sound as though if you don't believe your team are good enough to achieve success you shouldn't buy a season ticket?
Cherry Blue Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Well said NNN. I often think of the song "where were you when you were sh1t". The answer I and many others gave back in 1995 was "here at Ewood Park". I was also there last night and will be there next season.

No Nay Never Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 not what I said, if you support, you support, you suggested it would affect season ticket sales I don't speak for everyone and wouldn't say i'm in the majority. Rightly or Wrongly ticket sales dropped due to the owners and relegation, so obviously a fair chunk of people not prepared to support the club through thick and thin.

I think it is more not supporting the Roa's than anything
No Nay Never Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I think it is more not supporting the Roa's than anything Fully understand peoples decision if that is the genuine reason, although some will have used that as an excuse because they weren't going to be seeing United and Chelsea and such like at Ewood. Personally I took the line of though that I wouldn't stop doing something I loved because of the rao's. People did as they saw fit at the time, and the sad part of it Is that our club will have lost fans forever because of it.

gumboots Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I think it is more not supporting the Roa's than anything How do you separate the 2 though? I don't ask that as a criticism of those who choose not to attend ewood. I ask because I seriously wish there was a way of saying I support nothing about their ownership but I'm still here for the shirt, the badge, regardless of who plays. I refused to renew my season ticket when, even after relegation, they didn't immediately pot Kean. But it felt bad, like I was letting the team down. I renewed once he was gone and despite a lot of soul searching again this season I'm still here and will probably be next season. Every defeat hurts even though I no longer feel the excitement of going to most matches. Every time we get a lead I feel the tension gnawing at my stomach, longing for the whistle as the final mins tick away. Every away game I don't attend I think I won't listen to the reports and then find myself sneaking a look at the internet. I'd like not to support the raos but if that means not caring whether were playing or not I'll take what may look like support if it means I can still care about Rovers.

For a lot of people you can't separate the 2, but some can and obviously have with the level of attendances. When we got relegated with the trust in charge, the drop in attendance was very slight. So there must be a reason for that
Al Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Supporter in the good times; disappears in the bad times. With "fans" like this.....Not been on here long enough to appreciate who Paul is and what he does. Be careful.
Stuart Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Not been on here long enough to appreciate who Paul is and what he does. Be careful.I get the impression he/she doesn't give a toss. Plenty of people put him/her straight and no comment. An apology is in order methinks.
Colt Seavers Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 wilpshire blue, another newby, wum, looking to agitate the old guard I don't understand this post. Wilpshire blue sounds like an older fan to me. If he is a recent member of this board, is he less qualified than, say you to say how he feels? Taken to its logical conclusion, your comment suggests that longevity on this forum supersedes longevity as a rovers fan. Why do you seek some kind of rank structure? Many fans with a greater passion for and knowledge of rovers than both you and I may well never have heard of this forum.

Parsonblue Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 If they were here "decades before Jack Walker arrived" then they are in the older bracket of fans yes? Who's going to keep the Club going after they've gone? Do you think a continuous stream of new fans is coming through? Are you implying that the younger fans only want to support a winning team? Doesn't matter if you are young or old you stick with a club and support that club through good times and bad. If you wander off when things get tough then I would question the depth of your support for the club. As one of the "older generation" I'm pleased to say I know any number of younger fans who have stuck with the club and will continue to stick with the club irrespective of who the owners, manager or players might be at any given time. It is the club that matters.

After our relegation in 66 and through the 70's and 80's lots of kids stopped supporting BRFC and switched to one big club or another. Only jw's once in a century intervention reversed that trend. Most kids want instant success. Fizzy pop v cold tea.... Which do you think they'd go for?

I agree that many will and have turned their backs on the club because they want the glamour that success brings. However, some younger fans will stick with it and they are the future hardcore support that every club needs.
thenodrog Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 What %age do you think will do that? My guess is 50% tops in this Div after a few years of the same and 25-30% should we drop in the 1st. That was approx the old figure and don't forget the demography has changed significantly in and around Blackburn. It is an awful long way back for a club like ours and dare I say impossible without exceptional circumstance like the Walker years.
chaddyrovers Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 IMO, if you stop support your club cos its going through a bad time then u arent a proper Rovers fan are u? You choose your team and stick with them through the good and bad times. simple as. I couldnt change teams n support another football team. i am a Rovers fan. Have been all my life and always will be.

You choose your team and stick with them through the good and bad times. simple as. I couldnt change teams n support another football team. i am a Rovers fan. Have been all my life and always will be. People are different and that needs to be respected. some will stay with someone after a betral, others will leave, people will react based on their experiences beliefs and values. It doesn't make them lesser supporters, just different people as at the end of the day all they have done is interpret their feelings differently than you. I wouldn't be surprised to know the vast majority who have left under the loons still look out for Rovers results, they will still care. It's just they can't tolerate to see what has happened and be reminded of what once was. just as some cannot bear to look upon a partner who has betrayed them as it brings all those emotions to the surface. Some can suppress and move on, others cannot. no one should be berated for their choice to attend or not, as the beauty of our world is that we are all unique and that should be cherished IMO. No matter how Rovers fans have reacted to it all, we have all reacted because of the same emotion our love for Rovers.
