West Yorks Rover Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 GB saying he thinks for an overall 90 mins, it was our best performance of the season. He thought Jason did an unbelievable job tonight, ' he was magnificent with Lee Williamson in there ' That good eh !

Backroom Tom Posted April 8, 2014 Backroom Posted April 8, 2014 Things look rosier after a performance like that Let's look what we have at present A highly paid but decent championship keeper A lack of a proper right back 3 very good centre halves for this league (1 a loaner) A very sufficient left back 2 or 3 ridiculously dangerous wingers plus a couple more decent ones 4 defensive midfielders all capable A couple of really good options for in the hole plus a couple out on loan 2 outstanding strikers for this league A manager eager to do well and obviously popular but still a rookie with a natural talent for bringing in good players but suspect tactically For me for once I see it as far more positive than negative we aren't far off we what we need to be the main thing missing isn't stability it's consistency Nail that and we've as good a chance as anyone next season Hell keep that up and we could sneak it you never know keep playing and keep winning and we could just do it
rovers11 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Still very much outsiders but we're in the race. We need to win all our games and we'll make it. Can be done (cue loss on Saturday).
Backroom Tom Posted April 8, 2014 Backroom Posted April 8, 2014 GB singling Lowe out for praise He was decent but for me Williamson was the one making us tick in the middle
Derbyshire Blue Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Just got to go for 5 wins and see what happens... Reading play Leicester Monday before going to Wigan, Burnley can do us a big favour with the there last 2 games being Ipswich and Reading....COYB!!!
Stuart Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 A real battling display all over the pitch. Particular kudos for Cairney, Williamson, Conway, Spurr, Keane, Gestede, Hanley, Rhodes and Kilgallon. Robbo didn't have a lot to do. Williamson was immense in CM, Rudy and Rhodes worked well together. Keane was excellent at RB. Cairney was my MoM. I still think he is our best CM but he worked really well with Keane down the right hand side. Probably our best home game of the season, with the atmosphere the closest to the Bumley one that I can remember. QPR are just awful. Redknapp wants flogging, not sacking.
Hekla Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Reading ship goals for fun at the moment. Very inconsistent side. We have every chance, come on boys.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted April 8, 2014 Moderation Lead Posted April 8, 2014 Easily the best team against a team of disinterested mercenaries. Stuart's quite right about Redknapp, how many players, and their quality, should be 20 points clear!

patrickvalery Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Surely its beyond us now. But i hope results like this just cement the belief in the players that they need not fear anyone next season. Haven't seen a kick from tonights match, so i wouldn't like to comment on the performance. But it is a very very good result and credit deserves to go to the players and the management. Well done lads.

Agree with all that, notice you didn't mention JLo, Conway my MOM, just for pure effort, he was running as much at the end as he was at the start......must make Dunny pant just looking at him. All a bit too little too late....but very promising if we keep it all together. QPR assisted greatly in barely turning up....Arry is well past it! Ps, didn't realise till heard on RR, the guy that missed their sitter is our Keane's twin brother. We had the better one tonight!
1864roverite Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Well tonight we have seen a blueprint for next season should we not make the final hurdle in this topsy turvy season. I agree, there are some games that are gonna come back and haunt us, dingles, Bournemouth, brum etc. The lax defending in some games is going to be significant. we have seen tonight we can dismantle any of the so called top teams. We have a team and squad that believes in a work ethic. I wonder if we are just going for broke. If we are, as I have said, its a blue print for next season. We clearly need a right back, we need another centre half and we so need a midfielder to control that middle defensive wise and one that has manoeuvrability. Cracking game for those who missed it.
Blue Cabbage Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 After getting beat nigh on every week for 3 years, it's about time we took games by the scruff and show opposing teams, players and managers that we are better than them, I may be getting giddy after a good mini-run but this set of players can reign at this level. I like Bowyer and I hope he's learning tactically and pyschologically (Willowe aside, that's another thread!) I fear it's too late this season, but I believe!!! (Just not this season) And yes that is stipulated by Venkys not doing anything typical (stupid)
LDRover Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Good performance that, everyone played their part but Conway and Gestede were outstanding. I cannot for the life of me understand why Cardiff let the pair of them go for less than a million. Gestede made Dunne look his age tonight, he totally dominated him from start to finish. Some player that fella. It's a long shot but if we win the last 5 I reckon we'll sneak 6th. Those 2 points dropped against Brighton last week look crucial now though. Oh, one more thing, QPR are woeful.
Stuart Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Haha what about Lowe? GB singled him out for praise!GB singled himself out for praise by proxy to justify his own team selection.Awful footballer. Cairney and Williamson had to work at 150% to compensate. Opposition watching, non-tackling, water carrier whose only attributes are covering ground and staring at the ball as it arrives at the oppositions feet. May have a future as a man-marker. Or an actual water carrier.
ABBEY Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Great win .. What a bunch of disinterested arrogant southern puffs . Even at 2-0 down they played tippy tappy with the goalie . Even the one that hit the post was half hearted pure cockiness. . And that's not taking anything away from the team tonight.
patrickvalery Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Thats the spirit!! Hey, you're not a proper Rovers fan unless you expect the worst!
LDRover Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 GB singled himself out for praise by proxy to justify his own team selection. Awful footballer. Cairney and Williamson had to work at 150% to compensate. Opposition watching, non-tackling, water carrier whose only attributes are covering ground and staring at the ball as it arrives at the oppositions feet. May have a future as a man-marker. Or an actual water carrier. I'm not a fan at all but thought he did okay tonight. Kept us ticking over, nothing spectacular. The difference between him and Williamson is that he can't make space when he gets the ball in tight situations. Williamson can make a yard and get his head up. Churlish to have a go at him tonight though.
Backroom Tom Posted April 8, 2014 Backroom Posted April 8, 2014 Thought exactly the same Abbey, passing back to goalie then back out and short corners with no aim they have give up and may struggle to get motivated again for the playoffs

arbitro Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 A really good performance and well done to the manager for his tactics. In parts we played a higher tempo than we have for a long time and generally squeezed QPR high up the field giving them little or no time to play. Despite some misgivings from me Rhodes and Gestede look like they can play together and at last we have a right back who looks comfortable there. To temper that though I don't think I have seen such a dispirited team as QPR for a long time.

The difference between him and Williamson is that he can't make space when he gets the ball in tight situations. Williamson can make a yard and get his head up. Churlish to have a go at him tonight though. Three times I passed on opportunities to comment but I was asked directly. His display tonight hasn't changed my opinion of him. Well, except that I now wouldn't trust him at RB either. Of our four midfielders tonight he covered the most ground and contributed the least. If pushed to say something positive I'd say he was less bad in the first half than the second.
Doug Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Very enjoyable game. Rudy is getting better every time I see him as is Conway. Not sure what the usual moaners are going to say after that! Sure they'll be back when we fail to win. Well done rovers, looking good for next season.
Stuart Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 He'd be fine as a right back Stu. In midfield he is a passenger imo.I used to think that but in the space of two minutes, we saw how to play full back (Keane intercepting the pass, laying it off and overlapping Cairney into the space) and how not too (identical situation, Lowe simply stood still in full combat pose and watched the ball all the way onto the boot of the opposition from 2 metres away and was passengeresque). Not for me, PV.
