Taking Rudy off is a classic management move.

You take off your best player, give him a rest but also let the fans give him a nice ovation as he leaves the field.

The game's won so no need to risk him possibly getting injured etc.

It's a classic management move in the final ten-fifteen minutes. Not when they can't handle him and we've played ten minutes of the second half.
