Indeed. Even Jimmy White was heard to shout “bottle job” at the telly 😐

Stat going round today the Rory had made 496 putt attempts from 3ft or under this season, and holed all 496.

He then missed 2 in 3 holes.

That is going to be a bitter pill to swallow.

Indeed, he lost it rather than the other man winning it.

That’s got to hurt.

Montgomery suggesting Tiger needs to bow out gracefully. I kindly suggest he takes his own advice.

Tiger can miss the cut, as he has today, at any competition he wants for me. His aura is undeniable, and since becoming less competitive he’s doing so much for the new generation of golfers coming in.

Plus he’s actually still fun to watch, and has the 60 exemption for a while yet.

Go on, Tiger!

Gutted for Rose, only because he is my favourite golfer, and what a superb round he put together today.

But it is SO cool for Europe to have it’s first Grand Slam Champion.

Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods…

Arise Sir Rory of McIlroy!

I never thought one day’s golf would ever top the Miracle of Medinah but last night was just sensational sporting theatre. Saturday was marvellous too.

That second shot on 15 by Rory was as brilliant as his third shot on 13 was atrocious! I’m so glad he’s got that monkey off his back and maybe he has 3 or 4 more major victories in him.

Got to spare a thought for Justin Rose though. How he must wish he could replay his Saturday round.

Marvellous stuff.

Loyalties split because I wanted them both to win.

Rose should have won so much more in his career - that's 3 Masters runners-up now plus one at the Open. Amid all the accolades for McIlroy Rose's 66 yesterday was a brilliant round.

Good to see the Europeans at the top of the leaderboard in Ryder Cup year

Mcllroy looked emotionally shot waiting for the start of the play off. Whereas Rose, having shot an exceptional final round, was looking cool and calm. You expected him to carry on in the same manner he had played the whole round.

So full credit to Rory for not just holding his nerve but pulling out his first birdie of the week on the 18th to win it. Great sporting drama. As others have said, I'd have just enjoyed it more had he beat a yank in the play off and not Rose.
