[Archived] Rovers vs Wigan

Recommended Posts

Well I was contemplating doing a match preview but then all of a sudden it was Friday and the game is tomorrow.

Probably the last game of the season :( unless the stars and the moon align and we make up 8 goals from somewhere.

Don't like Wigan. Hope we smash them.

Me neither, will never forget their fans attitude when they effectively sent us down in our last Premier League season.

I hope they don't go up either, they've had a nice long stint in the Premiership and they aren't even a proper football town, give a proper team a go up there.

They seem to have dipped in form only just managing to beat what is currently one of the worst teams in the league at the moment and we're in great form at the minute (second in form table last time I checked). We should win this and it's a shame we aren't in the playoff places because I'd have given us a chance although I believe Derby are going up.

No Williamson please Mr Bowyer! - Might as well let the footballers have a go and see if we can at least do our part in the almost impossible sequence of results we find ourselves needing.

Keep thinking we would be one of the real contenders if we had gone out and slapped Yeovil, or not given up against Wednesday. But we are where we are.

The only miniscule is just going for it so let's keep the shackles off as with the last couple of away games

If we lose 5-4 then so be it but go for the jugular

Be nice to end on a high knowing we did all we could

Oh and DABO

This game could well be the last for several Rovers players (subject to fitness and selection) and also hopefully the last for some of the loan duds that we have collected.

Which players are you thinking of?

Fancy us for an entertaining 2-2 draw tomorrow which will be a decent end to the season. The line up from the last match was as attacking as it could be really so the best option is to go with that and hope we can rattle a few in early on and they might give up and Burnley might .......etc. Going to join the hordes at the Stirling Albion v Clyde game myself which might not be the best game ever witnessed.

Dunn, Olssen and potentially Robinson and all the current loanees except Keane.

Yes - the reaction of those players at the final whistle will be interesting.

Olssen may have done enough to get a new contract - all depends on how much money he is on.

Dunn - worth a pay as you play deal - I would hope he would accept that to finish his career at the club he supports.

Robinson - must be on huge wages - but I wouldn't pay him off in the way we did Murphy. If somebody comes in for him - and we can get rid of his wages then good - otherwise we may as well keep (one less position to have to fill during the summer and a bit of continuity)

If Robinson goes, we better have a decent replacement lined up.

Going back to the Kean and Eastwood show earlier this season does not fill me with hope.

Anyway, let's have some excitement and entertainment tomorrow please.

In fact just the opposite of the previous home match will do

Uwe Rosler has stated that he'll give a run out to some of his fringe players according to SSN so hopefully that could give us a chance to do our bit in the unlikely sequence of results.

I'm really looking forward to this as we have no other option than to go for the jugular, I'd hate to think that we coasted it, won say 2-0 and then missed out by a couple of goals as results in the other games went our way.

I'm hoping for a few goals to finish the season with. 4-1 Rudy(2), Rhodes, Hanley.

Let's finish on a roll and hit the ground running in August!

I'm sure the crowd will keep Bowyer and the players up to date with other scores should it get close.

Seeing as Dave Whelan has such a soft spot for us as he always professes it shouldn't be too much of a stretch for him to persuade his charges to slump to a 7-0 defeat tomorrow to boost our fortunes. LOL.

As far as the game goes it's too late now but the team certainly owe the fans a performance after the Yeovil no show. Although the way the season has gone if we get to 5-0 up at half time and the exciting news comes through that Brighton are losing we'll probably withdraw Rhodes and Gestede to try and keep them fresh for next season and hang onto the win.

Completely disagree with DMTP about Robinson, Olsson and Dunn. Imo after a good start when he first came back Robbo has subsequently looked extremely shaky Olsson isn't good enough and Dunn now looks completely past it. Wouldn't be looking to keep any of them on.

In fairness to Olsson, and I'm not saying he deserves a new contract; he did play well against Charlton. His crossing was excellent all day. Having said that, very little came down their right.

Robinson struggles to get down to low shots and is on big wages. He is a big voice at the back though and if we were to let him go then it would be strictly on the assurance that we had an adequate replacement ready to sign on the dotted line.

Last time I saw Dunn start was against Watford and he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. The time before that was at Burnley: Again, best player on the park. He can still play a part I'm sure of it - hoping we can organise a pay as you play with bonuses.

Olsson was fantastic against Charlton - definitely his best game in a Rovers shirt. Problem is he hasn't performed consistently enough when called upon so it would probably be best for all concerned to get him off the wage bill.

Hoping for a big win tomorrow, but Bolton was probably the last time we smashed anyone at home. Be good to finally win 3 in a row at least...
