No, the players are self motivated for games like this. It's a one off chance for glory. They play for professional pride, to put themselves in the shop window, to match supposedly far more talented players and show that they too have some skill. The result only matters fleetingly - it's not the routine bread and butter fare of every week when you're playing against less able but well drilled teams. And it's an occasion, a stage to play on and they want to play the heroes. It's like doing amateur dramatics. You rehearse and rehearse and the director despairs of ever getting the Performance from his cast that he knows they can produce, then in costume on stage with the lspotlight on you and an audience everyone lifts and you all achieve. Cup football is all about here and now and not about league position or form.

I was just hoping we wouldn't get thumped, then in the last 10 mins dreading the heartbreak of conceding late. It was a great day to be a rover and the only bad moment was when the idiot next to me set off his smoke canister and the bits from if were burning my scalp while the steward stood next to him doing nothing

That's annoying, stewards are usually hot (no pun intended) on taking action against those with smoke bombs/flares. It was quite near me as well and a few people seemed to be affected by it.

I'm really annoyed about the date of the replay anyway as I'll miss it. Holidays have been booked for ages as we thought we'd only miss the millwall game

Absolutely ridiculous UEFA rules about not being allowed to play domestic cup ties when European games are on.

What does it matter?

Agreed. Seemingly a case that the "small" Clubs and their fixture commitments don't matter.

Really really hope that we win the replay just to **** off the broadcasters and UEFA apart from anything else.

Here's to a Rovers v Reading/Bradford final in that respect. Although if we were to beat the Red Scum Manchester United in the final I think I would feel like I'd died and gone to heaven after previously winning the Premiership and the equivalent of the League Cup.

Not meaning to jump the gun...

IF we got to the final say vs Man Utd who were already in europe, would the runners up then take the europe spot or has this rule changed now?

If the winners have qualified for the Champions League then the runners up in the cup will qualify for the UEFA cup. If the winners would have qualified for the UEFA cup via the league then that place (league) will go to the next next league position not qualified (6th place) and the UEFA place for winning the cup will go the winners.

That's how I understand it anyway. Although we're getting slightly ahead of ourselves there.....

Funny how much more interest there has been in the Liverpool quarter-final compared to when we played MIlwall. On paper, a much better opportunity to get to Wembley, especially having earned a replay at Ewood. There was a very small crowd on for that game, I think the life had been sucked out of the club by the dire performances under Appleton. Can't say the home league games under Bowyer have been much better.

Brilliant result and performance. Was pretty impressed with the organisation and desire from the players.

The main positives for me were as follows:

- Gestede, the man is a beast, will be playing premiership sooner rather than later

- The determination from the players

- Whilst we had much less possession we still made a couple of decent chances, and could have had a goal

and most importantly of all - we performed when it mattered. Sheffield and Bournmouth in one sense didn't matter - win or lose we wouldn't go up or down, pressure is totally off. However yesterday we performed when it actually counted for something.

If I could give one criticism it'd be our lack of pace. Several times we caught Liverpool on the break and short at the back, but didn't have the pace to capitalize. A bit more pace and the draw could well have been a win. This needs to be seriously addressed in the summer, as we don't just lack pace, we're slow.

However much more positives than negatives - bring on the replay.

What's this all about with the replay being in a month's time? How annoying is that. It's so close to the semi date that any fares to London are going to have gone through the roof by then. Can't understand why it's not next week.

Palace thought he was only worth 3m, or thought they'd get a steal because we're so much in debt.

Unlucky Pardew, you've probably lost out now.

What a difference a year makes! 12 months ago we`d lost to our Dingle rivals. Now we are all basking in glory! I must say that Gary Bowyer came out very well from this match showing his tactical acumen which many claim he lacks. It was also great to see his Dad Ian in the crowd and he must be a proud father today.

I say a good thing. Get JK fit and him and Rudy up front, we'll smash em. If it was next week I don't think JK would make the game

Fantastic do yesterday. Liverpool has some great ale houses rounded off by a great performance and atmosphere at the game.

Just watching it back on bbc highlights. The commentator is annoyingly pro Liverpool, albeit he is nullified by a pro Rovers Robbie Savage. Surprisingly Lawrenson gives our fans and players a lot of credit too in the post match analysis; I always thought he despised us!

Great game yesterday! Still buzzing! I am still willing to give Bowyer the chance to get us up, but he needs to let the players loose without fear like he lets them play in the FA Cup.

Which made me think of something else, seeing how he has chopped and changed for the FA Cup, and seeing that team play so well in the FA cup, do we really know what our best starting 11 is? I mean I find the strength of the squad is at times the weakness. Yes we have strength in depth but we don't have a starting 11 that picks itself in many ways. At times people have been disgruntled with individuals performances, and we haven't had players who have consistently played well which in some cases why we haven't had the same starting 11.

I mean take Henley for example who has thrived in the FA Cup, and has gotten better in the league for me now should be the time to play him consistently at RB and allow him to use the rest of the games from this year to develop and see where we are at in the summer with him, and see if he is capable of making that position his own. I am more convinced now than ever that we need to sell Hanley in the summer and use that money to give a new contract to Killa, and sign Baptiste permanently.

One thing is for sure for our inconsistencies we do have an exciting squad, the manager does show he can get it spot on, and slowly it is getting more and more right than wrong, which begs the question will we go up next year with Bowyer? I know people don't want to hear the word transition, but while I feel we had a squad to compete with promotion in my mind over my heart I still didn't think we were ready. But seeing performances like yesterday believes that we are so close to turning that corner. Just need that final little piece of quality in the team, and for the manager to release the players from their shackles.

True enough but the sad thing is overall the year has made no difference at all in a postive way

My first proper away game yesterday and I reckon it was a great one to start with!

I drove across with several lads who we sit with at Ewood and all of us had a great day out sitting just out of the direct sunlight in block 127.

Don't think I have ever been somewhere with so much dog turd on the pavements than Liverpool? haha!

The majority of fans were tremendous all day with some excellent renditions of "ooooooooooooooooooooooh King Kenny is magic, he wears a magic hat" and the 20th minute applause and "one Jack Walker" after the confusion of whether to start it at 4:20pm or after 20mins play due to the Skirtel injury...

The single Liverpool fan getting nailed with "tracksuit from Matalan" was also brilliant...

Hope we sounded loud on the telly...

Not a fan of the smoke bombs people brought in, there were plenty of kids about and I'm sure its not nice getting a face/lung full of that...

Anyway, thought we were good value for the draw and part of me felt we could have won with a little more luck...

The defence was great, particularly Killa and Baptiste, however did witness Henley judge and intercept a long ball at one point before it was even played that impressed plenty sat near me...

Cairney was decent although was guilty at times of giving the ball away only for us to come under pressure immediately...

Conway just didn't stop running, great game...

Rudy did well on his own and it was clear we missed someone just getting onto the flicks and few layoffs.

Onto the replay now, reckon we can do them at ours if we add King's pace...

On a separate note, I have had a read of some Liverpool forums today and they are really unhappy with their pitch and put a lot of blame there, not much better at ours! haha!

They also think we were dirty, manager a disgrace to set us up like that, referee awful and dreading the fixture pile up for them now with Arsenal and Utd to come...

Nowt like sore losers...

I commented on the mess on the pavements too. Disgraceful on route from Goodson to Anfield.

They though we played dirty, did they? Why is it that they just can't give credit where it's due? Regardless of how we set up, how we played, how the ref was, they should have beaten us all ends up and they didn't.

Was in the Paisley lounge pre and post match yesterday, with tickets on the half way line. Haven't read any posts on this topic yet, but have to say looking at the rovers fans packing the whole of the bottom tier was brilliant. You were by far the noisiest set of fans and you generated terrific support. It took me back to the way things were prior to the last four years. Superb.

Rovers were excellent yesterday. I wouldn't quite say brilliant, but really really good. Tactically we were spot on and the players deserve huge credit. We defended well. Liverpool never really turned our back four. The midfield worked hard and not without a bit of intelligence. Up front Gestede frightened them to death. He won virtually every ball and his performance lead to Liverpool never being allowed to settle into any kind of dominance. If that isn't evidence of how a lone front player contributes greatly to the teams performance, then nothing will. The only worry I had during the game was that both full backs looked like they might have been exposed to giving rash penalties away when the wide men ran at them. But they didn't.

Bowyer gets credit from me as well. He got the selection and tactics right. He got the substitution right because while Taylor wasn't great when he came on, it was right to replace a largely tiring and ineffectual Marshall. I haven't changed my opinions on the manager based on this one game. The facts are there to be seen. Over the season we've been nowhere near this kind of performance. Much of the season has been pretty dire and when you see the performance yesterday, you have to wonder why.

One word of caution. I think Liverpool underestimated us. They didn't have the energy you expect from a Liverpool side, they Weren't ready for Gestede and they weren't ready for the way rovers approached the game. I think the replay will be much harder for us than this game was.

Having berated Bowyer on this board for several months now about his defence and organisational ability i have to give him credit for the improvment in the last three games.

We need to make ourselves harder to break down and I think Baptiste and Kilgallon were superb yesterday. Centre half is an experienced players position and they clearly showed that versus our recent pairing of Duffy and Hanley whose record is pretty hopeless at the moment. They could now find themselves 4th and 5th in the pecking order for centre back which to my mind is quite right. They still look raw and with a lot to learn.

Hats off to Henley and Olsson as well as their pace out wide certainly helped. Henley made one howler of a pass early on but did little wrong after that.

Gestede was awesome for most of the game but he had few otpions for a lay off as he was isolated up front.

It was nice to feel a connection with the club and fans once again yesterday.

When you think last 5 games versus premier league sides we have had a draw and loss versus City, a win v Swansea and Stoke and a draw at Liverpool.

Not at all bad.

Bowyer now needs to get the lads motivated to perform at this level against championship teams.

Watched it a packed pub in New Brighton having a meal with my daughter. Made up with the performance as the bookies, the public, the press and even Jesus Christ himself had us down for a drubbing.

Rodgers moaning about the pitch, didn't Rovers play on the same surface ?

Tell you what though, a team of battlers given motivation from the Manager who never gave up ?

Are we Burnley in disguise ?!!
