[Archived] Gary Bowyer Discussion

I genuinely thought we had a chance of playoffs this season. The quality of the division appeared mostly equal at the top end (and so it has proven) and Cardiff and Fulham coming down were absolute shambles (and continue to be). Norwich also had a lull which gave a few teams a chance to sneak in.

This was the season to challenge, and we've blown it.

I'd thought there was no reason not to be challengeing for automatic especially after analysis of the other sides - nobody's running away with it like last season.. After the end of season run last time U thought we could kick on and GB would of learnt from his experience of last season but this wasn't to be and was apparent as early as October then around the Xmas period with GBs post match comments it really was time to move on and get someone else in...But hey this is Rovers under Venkys..

Pleasingly now that big lumbering mistake ridden embarrassment of a pretend tough guy has been ditched things look a lot more solid defensively. Can only wonder why it took Bowyer about 50 games too long to work out he was a wandering liability.

He may yet not have worked it out. The guy in question has been injured and I wouldn't be surprised if he is not straight back in when fit?

What about now Gav. Still of that opinion?

Very much so yes, in that I believe Bowyer has more chance of taking us up next season than this or last season.

He'll be 12 months more experienced, the players will be 12 months more experienced and that surely con only be a positive thing.

Now the other question is WILL HE take us up next season?

Probably not, but I wouldn’t be to disappointed if he was given another 12 months because he’s a genuine guy trying to bring success to Blackburn Rovers, and as a fan I appreciate that after all the sh1te thats gone on since the idiots in Pune took over.

Venkys are the problem, not Gary Bowyer.

Even if the team isn't sold off it only takes a big injury or two to key players and we are struggling again. That's something we've been ok with this season so far. Plus whoever comes down in the likes of Bumley, Leic etc know this div well and are armed with parachutes so are likely to be at it again. One or two of those who miss out this time will only get stronger.

A massive trick looks like being missed this season and I can only see us falling further away.

Agree this season IMHO as been a wasted opportunity

Thing is Gav .. The team is gonna be torn apart come may so that experience counts for nowt unfortunately

You're right Abbey, but Bowyer has a good track record of bringing decent players in on little budget, so thats a positive.

I've said many times that Bowyer isn't up to the job, but I'd rather have him than roll the dice and get Craig Short or someone else thats easy and cheap to appoint.

I'm very comfortable with the fact that Gary Bowyer is a genuine guy trying his best for the football club and you can't ask anymore than that from him.

Well he didn't take us up last season and he won't take us up this season, so I suppose he does have more chance than zero for next season.

Fair post Gav, I think we're all hoping GB can come good... because he may be all we have to believe in.

IMO Bowyer has done well in the transfer/loan market.

My problem with him is that he has cost us a play-off place by not knowing his best team or formation, and picking the wrong players.

Hanley was a glaringly obvious problem at the back, and Bowyer kept picking him. It was clear to all that watched Rovers that he shouldn't be playing. The main reason we're on this run now is that Hanley got injured (and Lowe).

We have played every formation under the sun, 442/433/451. The 'diamond' verses Wolves has pathetic and we only played it because it worked against a 10-man team the week before. The players were just as confused as the fans.

Name our best performances/results this season, and they will mostly be in games where Bowyers "first team" has been rested Eg the cup run.

He has only just worked out that Rhodes/Rudy can't play together - far too late.

We won't have any decent players or money next season, so I don't know what the answer is, but this season can only go down as a failure by Bowyer.;

Thanks for that insight Andy.

Fingers crossed he comes good next season I'm sure you'll agree.

Another defeat to a top 6 club and when the match actually meant something. More of the same next season.

Which makes it even more laughable that even if, EVEN IF, Rovers had crept into the playoffs, that Bowyer and his "men" could overcome the other top six sides.

Those saying there where people wanting him out before the season are right, I was one of them. It wasnt nasty, but it was based on a judgement that he isnt the right man.

Ive seen nothing to change my mind as yet, and plenty to strengthen it.

I wont harrass, hate, boo GB or do anything else anyone wants to throw at people who would prefer to see a experienced manager with a track record of getting clubs out of this league either, but its more irrational to think after 2 seasons of the Football we have been seeing, and known problems not being addressed, that suddenly things will change next season.

Whilst season after season of mid-table turgidity (or worse) may be appealing to some, it certainly isnt to me, and Im guessing here but I can't really see Venkys being delighted with it either (how many games have they attended this season?).

I'm very much in that camp. Very little venom in the BE upper against GB, but not the man. Sadly in Madames eyes, if she likes you......job for life.....or better you walk and get paid off for life. Fools and their money are easily parted, but when you have more money than sense......had enough of another disappointing night at Ewood!

He just can't get key things correct in terms of tactics and line ups against these teams. Tactics where right back to what's served us so badly this season tonight and no answer during game to alter things. He was hampered of course by little options on the bench but made his usual predictable change i.e a striker for a striker. When asked about this he said it was just for a fresh pair of legs. Spearing should have started against a midfield like that, Brown had done enough with the defending from the front tactics recently to warrant a start. Rhodes was absolutely shagged by 75 min and he should have made way simply for that reason. Key decisions again are lacking.

I normally agree with you on rovers matters but this guy not. My 16 said tonight that he's the worst player that he's ever seen in a rovers shirt.

"We dug deep and had a right good go".

Bowyer's epitaph or a job appraisal for interment workers?

Either way Rovers are dead and buried.

He said play offs not gone and we could win the next 8 in a row ! Gobsmacked

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't have brought him on (or bought him) but it's the tactics. When Rudy starts it's just hoof hoof and he just lurks about in the middle. Recently he's started Brown with Rhodes and he's done the donkey work of pressing and closing down as that's all he's good for and it's worked so against a team as busy as Brentford I'd have gone the same way seeing as it's been working. Rudy then gives a good option to come on and mix it up.

Anyway game was lost in midfield, over run down there and up here in the middle. No answer to it from the sidelines.
