[Archived] Gary Bowyer Discussion

And Grayson went down the same managerial route as Bowyer is now doing. He started as Reserve Team coach at Blackpool, became caretaker manager and was then appointed permanent manager. All managers have to start somewhere which is something many people forget. Den mentioned Kendall, he came as player-manager but had no managerial experience before he arrived at Ewood, his only experience was that of a coach. Bowyer is no different from many managers whose natural progression is player-coach-manager.

You are right, and I've said it several times. Bowyer would have made - and may still make - an excellent League One manager.

I never made a comparison. I just posted cold hard and unsubjective financial facts. How good the players were is irrelevant to the claim made.

Parson claimed Souness had far bigger spending resources when we were last in the Championship. I just posted that he spent under £8m and we have spent over £16m so far. Myth debunked.

You haven't taken inflation into account. The highest transfer fee in received by a club in England was Anelka in 99 which was 22 million, Bale went for 93 million which was more than FOUR times that amount. So Souey spending 8 million is what at least 32 million?

Alas you might recall history wasn't my best subject John so the. I can't see, from a purely footballing perspective any difference between the two. The knack of winning football matches is down to several things as we have been lucky to witness down the years. Kean and Bowyer are clearly lacking here.

I did't give a Latin analogy for the same reason! I just read an interesting David Pleat article (yes, really) in Backpass where he analyses Bournemouth's success. Their manager was promoted from running the youth team and he employs wingers playing not on their natural sides - two of Bowyer's biggest crimes apparently. But, and it's a big but, according to Pleaty most of their many, early crosses come from two overlapping speedy fullbacks who most definitely play on their natural sides. This made me think it's not so much what you do, but how well you are able to do it, and that's the difference between Howe and Bowyer. Bowyer doesn't seem to have developed a tactical philosophy whereas Howe, and our past successful managers, had done.

Sounds horrific. Dead rubber or not, people have paid to watch the team play and it sounds like the players have no motivation whatsoever.

I assume Bowyer stood/sat with his hands in his pockets all half, looking vaguely bemused?

Time up for Boywer. When the performances and results are as dismal as this season with the benefit of two of the Championships best strikers, imagine what they will be next season -without them. It is difficult to recall any matches where the opposition has been outplayed for more than 45 minutes at most and positive results have usually been the result of good finishing by Rhodes or Gestede. The future without them is scary and will probably end up in League1. GB cannot motivate the players and whatever line-up he has tried the team is generally outplayed in midfield - on occasions to an embarrassing extent. Last season's defence frailties have not benn addressed at all. Can't score and concede easily is a receipe for disaster. However we all know that Wankys are clueless and their local management dosn't have two brain cells or a set of balls between them. So next season will be an inevitable slide into obscurity and ultimately administration.

The current squad is badly underachieving under the manager. As the squad continues to depreciate in value with FFP and reduced revenue, then fighting just to stay in the division will be a distinct possibility. Not that we have anything to worry about on that score, eh, Parson?

To think, we've got an FA Cup Quarter Final replay against the mighty Liverpool coming up soon. I can't imagine what it might have been like had that game not been put back a month. Probably 'Rovers fans put on suicide watch' kind of bad.

A couple of weeks ago someone cited a game as proof they are playing for him

Well there you have it by that metric unrefutable proof that they aren't playing for him

His constant needless messing in the first half of the season and failure to sort out the back four have been a huge hamper this season. His style/brand of football and containing tactics have strangled the life out of the team for nigh on 2 seasons now with the odd exception. Meanwhile Venkys stranglehold on the club is slowly killing it. Much rougher times ahead :(

If that game isn't a clear indication of why he needs to go, tben I don't know what is!

We could go back to the shocking display v Blackpool for that. He couldn't come up with a game plan or motivation to go for 3 points against the worst team in the league. Preferring instead to try and stop their thrown together shambles of a team because they'd drawn at home the game before. The mans limitations are endless !

There's a real real danger that the reputation Bowyer has earned will be forgotten soon. That would be a shame.

Too late now to become the new Tony Parkes either. Sad.

Tony Parkes failed to spark the team when he was given an extended run (in 1999/2000) and it took Souness to shake things up and give the sort of clear sense of purpose and direction that has been so obviously missing in this dismal season.

Watched him in the 2nd half .. Stood there hands in pockets apart from a calm down gesture when it needed a real rant . We had a corner around 60 mins .. He walked to the dugout looking at the floor and scraping his foot like he couldn't be arsed or wanting to be elsewhere . . That's not having a go it's what I saw.

His natural state seems to be hands in pockets looking at the floor scuffing it with his feet
