Good spot.... either they do read these pages OR I'm extraordinarily perceptive and you need to pay more attention to what say Rover_Shaun! :tu:

However it is quite acceptable PR for goodness sakes. Every club uses the local rag to their advantage just as every local rag uses clubs to their advantage. I posted on here that to arrest the clubs declining ST sales we must make the best use of the 12000 apprentice sales reps that we have at our disposal. Rover_Shaun & broadsword, you've just failed your interview. You're fired! ^_^

He ain't going to learn much downing the jugs of Jaegermeister and betting in a certain pub in Leyland. He's been a very regular punter in there recently. tut tut

He gets spotted all over on the @#/? so he deserves stick imo. If you can't act like an athlete then don't expect to be treated like one. He's the new Dunny except this lad really does put them away !

The Railway? The missus lives in Leyland and I might ask her to keep an eye out/let me know when he's boozing so I can question his commitment.

Not sure where to put this so here goes.

It seems that the powers that be read this forum and they've now gone on the offensive using their LET mouthpiece to defend two players who get the most flak on here

Tommy Spurr: Don't judge Chris Brown on his Blackburn Rovers scoring record

I’m still young and I’m still learning, insists Blackburn Rovers skipper Grant Hanley

Bowyer quote on Brown: "He's first class and he's going to be a big player for us."

Not only is this a worrying statement but it's utter hogwash. Some call it sheltering players, I say it's putting players under unnecessary pressure by making outlandish claims that they have no chance of fulfilling. Bowyer has been bigging up Brown since the day he got here and so no wonder he's feeling the pressure after his goalless run, forgetting the fact he's put in around two ok performances since his signing. Look what happened to Songo'o who was predicted to be a fans' favourite when he signed, not even had a sniff. Not forgetting Judge, Marrow, Feeney, Dabo, etc...

Kean came under fire for making similar statements (though thankfully Bowyer hasn't quote lost the plot enough to rival the Irwin and Rooney quotes... Yet).

The way Bowyer protects his players in the media and never criticises them (unless it's a really bad result and he has to cover for his tactical errors) doesn't seem to work for me. It leaves them soft-centered and we've seen this over the last two seasons. No real fight and unable to handle pressure, with no real fear of losing under a manager that will clap away as long as they gave it "a right good go". The Captain Hanley debacle is a key example of his failings as a man-manager.

No doubt some posters will blame the fans for the players being unable to perform under Bowyer. I don't buy it however.

I'm sorry but just wtf has it to do with you what he does for R&R?

btw I don't want to pry but if she lives there then where do you live?

Rubbish mustard. When have you ever heard Wenger, Ferguson or Mourhino or any other top manager appearing in the media criticising individual players in public? Crikey Fergy even managed to avoid publically criticising Eric Cantona for his unforgiveable GBH assault on Matthew Simmonds.

Love it. Accusatory comment, followed by a personal gibe / clever trap to follow.

Now I'm not one to make any assumptions but I'm guessing that Mrs Mustard doesn't have thousands of people who pay to come along to watch her do her job expecting her to be in the right condition to do so. If she does then I would expect her to behave professionally too. He's not a pub player FFS.

Do you imagine Gaz is the type to give the hairdryer treatment behind closed doors?

So effectively according to Tomphil Dunny was a moderate drinker. Yet so many on here had him down as an ale can just because he liked a bit of social life on permitted nights. I guess it's all about opinions as they say.

People just love to point fingers and cast the first stone don't they? He's currently injured long term but I'm sure Hanley will not go out when the Club forbids it.

I've no idea and more pertinently neither have you.

Fantastic ability and should have gone on to a bigger club and had dozens of England caps (look at some of the average players with 50+).

His social life put paid to that sadly.

If you really want a career in the top end of football you need to sacrifice certain things. Dunny was born an era or two too late.

C'mon Abbey SFW? He has to eat for goodness sakes and cooking for one is not easy.

I must say I hate the place but by coincidence on the sole occasion that I was in a couple of months back and after a match he came in, the waiter showed him to a quiet corner, he ordered his food, washed it down with a beer and left within an hour. No idea where he went after of course but on that occasion his behaviour was impeccable...... Still no fecker wants to hear that around here do they?

Oh btw Tim Sherwood was in the Nabs Head plenty 20 years back but it didn't stop him captaining us to the Premier League title did it?

Exactly - during the era of Le Tissier, Adams and the embers of Gazza.

A professional athlete should not be boozing every week. I'm a decent enough amateur player of good fitness yet I feel it when I drink more than once every few weeks. Check out Marshall or Taylor's instagram accounts if you want to see how committed our players are... Taylor is a regular boozer. Loves his Wednesday sessions from what I remember last time I looked (months ago).

I live just off Preston New Road, in Blackburn of course. Would you like me to explain how me and her met?

I'm not stating Bowyer should criticise individuals, but the man has only ever questioned team performance on a couple of occasions this season. Hell he even defended the performance vs Blackpool. The man has no cojones and should demand better from his players and when they've been shocking, he should say so. Wenger, Ferguson and Mourinho would say when their team haven't been good enough. Bowyer never has. Hell, I even remember Mourinho admitting he got it tactically wrong once until he made changes.

My issue is he bigs the players up beyond an achievable level. He takes the pressure off the TEAM when they need to be told to step up yet seems to apply a level of negative pressure to individual players. Talking how Brown will be a top player for us when he has yet to score, stating how Songo'o will be a fan favourite before he's even kicked a ball for the first team. All that talk about Dabo and Varney which they were unable to live up to. Never mind the issue of Hanley as captain and the persistence with him, or when Rhodes, Duffy, Eastwood and Henley came in at various points in the season and played well (Rhodes scoring even) but subsequently found themselves dropped the game later. Personally, I think his man management skills seem to be all over the place (from the limited amount we are able to see).

In your opinion. Gazza did all that x 10 and granted he's a washed up mess now but it didn't seem to stop him being a top top talent at the time.

In my opinion Dunny was unfortunately injury prone with a touch of glassback.

1. Every few weeks! That must be it then...... Learn to sup a bit more and you might make the professional ranks!

2. No just wondering why she lives in Leyland. You don't need to answer of course.

Goodness me you've changed your tune on Dunny, we've banged heads about his social life numerous times and you've never just blamed injury!

Not me Gav. His social life doesn't worry me and any 'excesses' are in the heads of people like mustard who like to drink every moon change or so. Dunny has a fantastic talent and despite having a big arse is very lean when he takes his shirt off as we saw v Burnley. imo and I've got to point out that I don't know him personally but l still feel most of his injury / recovery problems originate between his ears, and that's what makes me sad.

All I am saying is, as a professional athlete, boozing once a week is neither helpful nor professional. Perhaps I should but ale goes to my belly. Maybe this is where I am going wrong.

She lives in Leyland as she was born in Leyland. Just as I live in Blackburn (when not at Uni) as I was born in Blackburn.

Was it in my head when I saw him, David Goodwillie and Jake Kean boozing in Whalley near enough every week? Tbf this was a few years ago when I was at sixth form.

Hanley hardly seems the pinnacle of fitness at the best of times, and so his boozing no doubt has an effect. Would explain why he's hardly a lean figure.

Am I now getting judged for not drinking so often simply because I don't like to? Jeez.

I have heard some very different stories about late nights in there the night before games. I was not there but it came from someone i believe.

if i was on umpteen thousand a week as much as i like a pint i would defintly not booze it up.When I competed I wouldnt touch a drop for 6 weeks before a competion and i wasnt paid either

Near enough every week you say? Gosh!

Anyway Hanley looks to have a superb physique when one stands next to him.
