C'mon Stuart read this through

So effectively according to Tomphil Dunny was a moderate drinker. Yet so many on here had him down as an ale can just because he liked a bit of social life on permitted nights. I guess it's all about opinions as they say.

People just love to point fingers and cast the first stone don't they? He's currently injured long term but I'm sure Hanley will not go out when the Club forbids it.

I've no idea and more pertinently neither have you.

Dunny lived the life and he was out and about a lot more than he should have been but I don't think he was a massive binge drinker. Seems the same can't be said for big Grant sadly although by some accounts he's a really sound lad but still that doesn't count for much to those who don't know him but expect him to treat himself like the well paid athlete he's supposed to be. Let's not forget that the drinking culture has moved on a bit in the last ten years or so as well. Pint, shot, pint, shot and on and on.

Being out injured is no excuse whatsoever as the so called professionals who treat and advise them will surely be telling them large amounts of alcohol has a seriously detrimental effect on the body's ability to heal itself. Especially muscle and soft tissue injuries.

Not sure where to put this so here goes.

It seems that the powers that be read this forum and they've now gone on the offensive using their LET mouthpiece to defend two players who get the most flak on here

Tommy Spurr: Don't judge Chris Brown on his Blackburn Rovers scoring record

I’m still young and I’m still learning, insists Blackburn Rovers skipper Grant Hanley

Worrying. Shows the players know they've been under performing and the fans are on to them. Also shows again Hanley should be nowhere near the team let alone captain...

Dont judge Brown on his goal scoring record? Sheesh, i think our defenders have scored more goals than him. He is a striker right, so if we shouldnt judge him on his goal scoring record, what should we judge him on?

Whatever suits the argument best, in fact recently Bowyer praised him for missing a chance and didn't mention the guy that actually put in the rebound

Bowyer has his faves and Brown is one of them. I presume because he gives it a "right good go".

All I am saying is, as a professional athlete, boozing once a week is neither helpful nor professional. Perhaps I should but ale goes to my belly. Maybe this is where I am going wrong.

She lives in Leyland as she was born in Leyland. Just as I live in Blackburn (when not at Uni) as I was born in Blackburn.

Was it in my head when I saw him, David Goodwillie and Jake Kean boozing in Whalley near enough every week? Tbf this was a few years ago when I was at sixth form.

Hanley hardly seems the pinnacle of fitness at the best of times, and so his boozing no doubt has an effect. Would explain why he's hardly a lean figure.

Am I now getting judged for not drinking so often simply because I don't like to? Jeez.

Gawd! When I first saw Goodwillie he was so slow I was shocked when I found out how young he was. The legs of a 60 year old in concrete boots.

Sometimes I wonder how some of these so-called professional athletes ever make it to any level at all.

First time commenting on this subject for twelve months or so but i haven't changed my vote in Bowyer being the right man for the job. At times its disappointing to lose but what we have is something quite unique, not only is it a youngish team without PL experience but a coaching set up to which often gets overlooked in fact a good example is Sherwood appointing Kevin Mcdonald at Villa as his No.2. I think in any top job in whatever career, you need an assistant head who is perhaps on there own wind down to guide you and add that extra impetus as in the Villa example. Not to take anything away from Terry Mac though who has been a main stay with Gaz since arriving from Crewe and probably doesn't get enough credit for the "stability" factor.

I think it could have been Pearson at Leicester a couple of years ago whom missed out on the play-offs after achieving them the year before and the fans at Leicester wanted him gone but instead the owners backed him one last time and they flourished to the Premiership. I think in the light of day it would be beneficial to give Gaz the first ten games of next season to see what he can do with a pressure switch of being in the top three.

As a club we can only hark back to the days of Mark Hughes where he set objectives and milestones throughout the season i.e first ten games x amount of points and it was publicized, i think a bit of this could be applied next year instead of not putting any pressure on the players. Its a team game and that involves them to step up and be counted, its okay being praised in public like the Liverpool game but you should expect the criticism too i.e Brighton and Brentford. Enough of the wobbly season lark and lets crack on under Gaz, its the players at the end of the day what get a manager sacked.

Bowyer is part of the general downsizing we have witnessed over the last few years. Top managers want top money.

It continues to amaze me that the owners will not pay the going rate for what is arguably the key position at the club. Yet waste millions on complete and utter trash.

Wolves and Brentford, both in League One last season, both in contention for a play off spot.

No-one could describe Brentford as being bigger than Rovers, (even the downsized version we are today), and their manager is less experienced than Bowyer, (astonishing to still read him described as a novice on here).

It's a myth that you need to sit around in mid table for a few seasons in order to push for promotion.

We haven't progressed at all and, in real terms, we've gone backwards this season.

The football at Ewood has been generally dire, the crowds will continue to shrink and the financial pressures to grow.

But, hey, let's stick with Bowyer and stick our heads in the sand.

We could have the Bowyer discussion 'til the Cow's come home... but the facts of the matter are

a ) Venky's back him blindly in the same way they did Kean

b ) The current board are happy not to rock the boat (remember what happened last time Club Official's tried to advise Venky's?!)

End of story really.....

It seems some fans are happy with him too.

Ipswich aren't doing that much better than us and we took 4 points from them this season (managed by Varney fancier Mick McCarthy - touted by many on here as a replacement for Bowyer - me included). Wigan have just binned Malky McKay (touted by many on here as a replacement for Bowyer- me included)

I think you are being a bit selective in your choice of comparisons there.

Blackpool relegated to league 1, Wigan on the verge, Bolton a long way behind us. These are the teams to compare us to as these are the teams with the same recent history as us, relegated from the Prem and as a result struggling financially. Wolves are doing better but had to drop a league and are a bigger club, but they'll probably still be in the same division as us next season. Norwich again get far bigger crowds, have managed to keep most of their better players and have more quality than us.

Bowyer isn't great but has done a good job compared to some. Not sure how acknowledging that constitutes 'sticking our heads in the sand'.
