Amo Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Ipswich aren't doing that much better than us and we took 4 points from them this season Just the 11pts ahead of us and still in playoff contention.

West Yorks Rover Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Ipswich aren't doing that much better than us and we took 4 points from them this season (managed by Varney fancier Mick McCarthy - touted by many on here as a replacement for Bowyer - me included). Wigan have just binned Malky McKay (touted by many on here as a replacement for Bowyer- me included) I think you are being a bit selective in your choice of comparisons there. Can't agree on Ipswich, they have been challenging, in and around the top 6 all season, having spent next to nothing since Mick McCarthy has been there. We have not really been in the race at all, they might miss out on the play offs but he's certainly done much better than Bowyer.
ABBEY Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Wolves ? A bigger club ? Over the past 25 years they haven't been .. We have won the league , been in the CL , Europe , we've won the league cup , we've been in umpteen FA cup/ league cup semis and we've not been in the 4 th division . Yes we are a basket case now but just because they are in front of us doesn't make them a bigger club .. Are Bournemouth massive ?
Amo Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Looking at the table, it's interesting to note that keeping goals out hasn't been our downfall, it's scoring them. Despite having two of the most prolific strikers in the league.
Stuart Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Looking at the table, it's interesting to note that keeping goals out hasn't been our downfall, it's scoring them. Despite having two of the most prolific strikers in the league. We scored plenty. If we had conceded one less goal per game we would be top of the league. So a better defence would certainly have seen us in the play-offs.

Yes we are a basket case now but just because they are in front of us doesn't make them a bigger club .. Are Bournemouth massive ? I meant based on attendances they are far bigger and therefore have more money. Based on anything else they couldn't hold a candle to us. B'mouth have a wealthy owner and not much, if any, debt. They're about as 'massive' as Burnley. Excellent manager though, no denying that. Looking at the table, it's interesting to note that keeping goals out hasn't been our downfall, it's scoring them. Despite having two of the most prolific strikers in the league. Quite, we've conceded less than Brentford but they've scored a lot more, as have all the clubs in the top 6. We're 10th in the goals scored column and 10th in the goals conceded. Nice and steady:-)
yoda Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Blackpool relegated to league 1, Wigan on the verge, Bolton a long way behind us. These are the teams to compare us to as these are the teams with the same recent history as us, relegated from the Prem and as a result struggling financially. Wolves are doing better but had to drop a league and are a bigger club, but they'll probably still be in the same division as us next season. Norwich again get far bigger crowds, have managed to keep most of their better players and have more quality than us. Bowyer isn't great but has done a good job compared to some. Not sure how acknowledging that constitutes 'sticking our heads in the sand'. When did any of those win the PL or League cup ?
Amo Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 We scored plenty. If we had conceded one less goal per game we would be top of the league. So a better defence would certainly have seen us in the play-offs. Take a gander at the table, Stu. Our defensive record isn't much worse than the teams above us but we're desperately lacking in the goals department.
Proudtobeblue&white Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 We are seriously lacking in winning games. Lost too many/drew too many at home by very poor performances. Dreary Ewood. Irrespective of tomorrow, our end of year report is Ofsted average, must do better?
Stuart Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Take a gander at the table, Stu. Our defensive record isn't much worse than the teams above us but we're desperately lacking in the goals department.I already have done. One goal less conceded per game and, ridiculously, we would have 80 points.'Desperately lacking' is incorrect. We have scored enough to win games but haven't shut them out enough. Unless you really think that we should be winning games 4-3 and 3-2 every other week. We are seriously lacking in winning games. Lost too many/drew too many at home by very poor performances. Dreary Ewood. Irrespective of tomorrow, our end of year report is Ofsted average, must do better? Ofsted would be delighted with us. We already have academy status.

I think you're being a bit selective in saying we've taken 4 points off Ipswich this season when we've only played them once.

chris_h Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I think you're being a bit selective in saying we've taken 4 points off Ipswich this season when we've only played them once. Ah, oooops. Perhaps if I'd have said hovering outside the play offs and looking unlikely to make the top 6? By which I mean that Big Mick would achieved much the same as Our Gaz come the final reckoning. (I am a fan of McCarthy having said that)
Amo Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I already have done. One goal less conceded per game and, ridiculously, we would have 80 points. And ridiculously we'd have only conceded something like 15 goals. It's not rocket science. Our Goals Against column is enough to compete with the teams above us, it's our lack of firepower that's been our undoing. Apart from Rhodes & Gestede, few have chipped in with their share of goals.
chris_h Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 The fans have always loved the club Some fans always have.

chris_h Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Which fans haven't ? Quite a few on here. In my opinion.
tomphil Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 A nice bit of propaganda in that article lol both from Gaz using the press to dress things up to the owners and from someone putting the image forward that all things are fine under Venkys now. Never mind i'll let them off if we win ...........
Dunnfc Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Bloody hell, its the best stable period of the club under Venkys. I appreciate its still from perfect but small steps along the way. Gaz deserves credit for this cup run, forget the league.
Amo Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 How many people would swap winning the FA Cup for a guaranteed play-off spot next season?
blueboy3333 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Which fans haven't ? the ones that turn up for Liverpool but not any other time? How many people would swap winning the FA Cup for a guaranteed play-off spot next season? winning the FA cup is one of the moments that would stay with us forever as fans, not sure a play-off spot would.
Dunnfc Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 How many people would swap winning the FA Cup for a guaranteed play-off spot next season? Me! I don't particularly miss the prem, a cup is a symbol of significance and history which no one can take away, just ask Wigan. My dads a Wiganer and says the Cup was better than the league games, made him proud that little old Wigan won the FA top four cup!
