A nice bit of propaganda in that article lol both from Gaz using the press to dress things up to the owners and from someone putting the image forward that all things are fine under Venkys now. Never mind i'll let them off if we win ...........

what do you want him to say? Articles like that are ten-a-penny when teams get this far in the cup, especially when it's championship/lower league against a big Prem team.

It's the QF of the cup, leave your cynicism at the station and hop aboard the Gaz Train, destination Wembley(possibly) :rover:

winning the FA cup is one of the moments that would stay with us forever as fans, not sure a play-off spot would.

The FA Cup won't pay the bills, though. We need Premier League football to stem the financial hemorrhaging at the club, and while I have little faith in Bowyer, I'd take it in a heartbeat if there was even the slightest chance we could go up.

Come on there's some very clever work in there from Gaz, don't blame him but there is no point dressing it up as anything other than people turning up in their droves because it's Liverpool. No other reason. Not being cynical really as it actually made me chuckle as it's over the top in a certain way and just typical of what I've come to expect these days.

Fully aboard the Ewood express with Bowyer the cup king. I just wish he'd showed up on the league liner at the beginning of the season :tu:

Well at least in this interview, he didn't mention that " the value of the young players in the squad had gone through the roof " as he did in one I read earlier today.

How many people would swap winning the FA Cup for a guaranteed play-off spot next season?

Guaranteed play-off spot?

Id struggle to swap an FA Cup win with anything, but a 25% chance of promotion isnt a hard choice.

Ordinarily, I might agree, but in our position every season out of the PL makes it even harder to get back. At this rate it won't be long before we're plying our trade with Coventry or Pompey. Would I swap a fleeting moment of glory to secure the club's long-term future? Damn right I would.

You offered a play-off spot though, not promotion.

Been through enough of those to know its a big difference.

He has done today.

"We know as we improve the players we will attract attention from Premier League clubs".

In every article Bowyer blames FFP for our lack of progress this season (which I disagree with - I think he is the main reason).

However, my question would be; Would Venkys have given him any more money to spend even if we didn't have FFP to comply with?

Nothing changes. Any club's best players are always going to attract attention from the top clubs. In many ways, if our players are attracting attention from other clubs, it would suggest that we are doing something right.

It also shows that our 'manager' is still stuck in that academy mindset of developing players rather than being results-driven.

Problem is also that that is a view that seems to be appreciated by the owners, as they are looking to "make some money" from the club. And I guess that selling players is the only realistic source of income at the moment.

Sadly selling players to make money is rarely compatible with success on the pitch. Well, unless you are selling for stupid money and are able to re-invest in equally good players or you have a youth setup that produces top quality talent on a regular basis.

Just one season in the Prem I think we'd all take it whatever happens when you get there. That would definitely be short term pain for long term game if we got battered most weeks, providing a huge chunk of the money was used wisely and not bled out again.

Apart from Rudy and Rhodes there has been no serious interest and if there is or was it will be from clubs looking to get someone on the cheap as a squad player. I doubt we'll see clubs beating on the door for the warrior and Scotlands future captain with a bag full of Wonga.

Everything changes. 4 years on from being a Premier League club were now simply a championship club looking at developing players to sell on.

I'm surprised at you Parson. You've been around rovers as long as I have. I know what it takes to succeed and gain promotion out of this league, yet you don't. Why's that? We're heading towards big trouble, I can see it, heck 90% of the fans can see it, yet some seem to think this is our "natural position" . There's no such thing. The first thing you need if you want to progress, is the real desire to do it.

Agreed but the difference now is that our sole aim is to buy in players for peanuts, develope them and sell them on for slightly larger peanuts, whilst pretending we want promotion.

Amounts which do not in anyway help our 500k shortfall each WEEK and a strategy that risks alienating our fans even further as results and performances deteriorate.

Have we not learnt our lesson this last few years? Sell your better players, replace with unproven wannabees, get relegated, lose half the fanbase, repeat at a lower level on a smaller scale until blue in the face.

You like me, den, well remember Rovers challenging for the title alongside Everton and what did we do? - sell Fred Pickering to Everton. Clubs like the Rovers always fall prey to the big city clubs who can offer more money. FFP is a fact - what we should or should not have done when we were relegated is now irrelevant. We live in the here and now and at the moment we can't buy players we can only loan - and even then there are restrictions - or bring on our own and when a player catches the eye of a "big club" they are ripe for picking. Even Liverpool are struggling to keep Sterling and they are far higher up the food chain than the Rovers. As for our natural position it all depends on the situation. Between 1936 and 1991 our natural position was the Second Division. For most the past twenty odd years our natural home has been the Premiership. Now, sadly, it looks like it might be the Championship again. With the restrictions placed upon us it is going to be difficult but there is no other alternative than a slow rebuild unless you can think of genuine quality players who other clubs are prepared to give away and players who are prepared to take a drastic wage cut to meet the FFP wage restrictions placed upon the Rovers.

None of it really makes sense. If the owners want to make money, serious money from the club, they'd do everything in their power to get the club promoted and then pocket the TV rights. Making a few quid on Rhodes or Rudy isn't going to cover the overheads let alone make a tidy profit. It's not a viable strategy in the short or long run.

Obviously our better players will attract interest from bigger clubs, 'twas ever thus in the football food chain. Difference being that back in the day this was incidental to our success on the pitch, whereas now it seems we're being systematically set-up as a feeder club, with our manager aiming soundbites specifically at the owners. Parson believes that since promotion isn't on the agenda, the plan is to consolidate in the Championship, become a feeder club and gradually build up to a promotion push, but promotion is only off the agenda because everything has been downsized by Venky's in the first place - especially expectations!

It's called realism rather than unrealistic expectations :(. Having champagne tastes without even beer money in your pocket is never going to work.
