None of it really makes sense. If the owners want to make money, serious money from the club, they'd do everything in their power to get the club promoted and then pocket the TV rights. Making a few quid on Rhodes or Rudy isn't going to cover the overheads let alone make a tidy profit. It's not a viable strategy in the short or long run.

Obviously our better players will attract interest from bigger clubs, 'twas ever thus in the football food chain. Difference being that back in the day this was incidental to our success on the pitch, whereas now it seems we're being systematically set-up as a feeder club, with our manager aiming soundbites specifically at the owners. Parson believes that since promotion isn't on the agenda, the plan is to consolidate in the Championship, become a feeder club and gradually build up to a promotion push, but promotion is only off the agenda because everything has been downsized by Venky's in the first place - especially expectations!

That is exactly how I see it as well. Making a few hundred grand on someone may pay one months wage bill but what then. you cannot sell them twice.

If it was my business, I would appoint the most suitably qualified applicant from a world-wide audience and try desperately to get promoted for the 100 million I would receive in year one alone.

None of it ever made sense. We were losing 3 million a year or thereabouts under the Trust. Turnover of circa 50 million. The old model, with the same players, marooned mid-table in th PL would have seen us netting an amazing profit of many millions per year with this new TV deal.

Not really the time to be having this discussion ahead of such an important game as we've done very well in the Cup. If we lose tonight then I would say this season has been little short of a disaster but if we win tonight and maybe a semi final and/or final we will obviously have salvaged a considerable amount of pride.

You like me, den, well remember Rovers challenging for the title alongside Everton and what did we do? - sell Fred Pickering to Everton. Clubs like the Rovers always fall prey to the big city clubs who can offer more money. FFP is a fact - what we should or should not have done when we were relegated is now irrelevant. We live in the here and now and at the moment we can't buy players we can only loan - and even then there are restrictions - or bring on our own and when a player catches the eye of a "big club" they are ripe for picking. Even Liverpool are struggling to keep Sterling and they are far higher up the food chain than the Rovers. As for our natural position it all depends on the situation. Between 1936 and 1991 our natural position was the Second Division. For most the past twenty odd years our natural home has been the Premiership. Now, sadly, it looks like it might be the Championship again. With the restrictions placed upon us it is going to be difficult but there is no other alternative than a slow rebuild unless you can think of genuine quality players who other clubs are prepared to give away and players who are prepared to take a drastic wage cut to meet the FFP wage restrictions placed upon the Rovers.

What did Jack Walker do Parson - did he understand that to be successful, you had to get the best managers and players in that he could afford, or did he get in a coach to develop players with the intention of selling them ASAP? Yes I know Jack had the finances to compete with the best teams in the PL, but Venkys have the finances to compete with the best teams in the Championship. In fact, they're probably as rich, if not richer than any of them. They could have, and still could employ a top manager and give him the funds to take us forwards. FFP doesn't explain the last four years. Walker would never have gone down this route. I don't understand how you think you can gain success by continually selling your best players. You mention selling Fred Pickering, - well where did it get us? I could add Mike England and plenty of others over the years. Where did it get us, It got us relegated.

Thank you Gary for the FA Cup run.

Too bad you couldn't get even a fraction of that right in the League, which is why we won't be in the Premiership next season.

We have the right squad, its' the decisions that failed us.

Got it right tonight but setting us up against much better teams hasn't been an issue - setting us up against slightly better teams has seen us unravel

He is here next season I have no doubt we just have to hope he is learning as he goes

I've said the same - I haven't enjoyed the league games at home this season

I'll reassess in summer and most likely give in in the end

We worked hard, no question.

But for me there is a difference between that and being 'brave' enough to take the risk that could win you the tie.

The last twenty minutes was screaming out for a bit of width, bring young Mahoney on, just give it a go, this may be the last time we see Ewood like this or reach a cup QF for years- now's the time! But nothing comes from Bowyer.

The frustrating thing is that we do have the players, the support wants to be re-engaged, but we are blowing our last good few years on Gary Bowyer, it makes me just so very frustrated.

Bowyer got his tactics spot on tonight.

He went 4-4-2 after 60 mins or so. It was nil nil and he made a positive change and went for it.

Next season, Bowyer needs to get us into the top 6.

Very happy for him to continue next season.

He must bring pace to the side and bring quality replacements if Rhodes or Gestede leave.

He had to this season!

The cup has been a nice distraction but the league looks like ending in failure

Bowyer has proven in successive seasons that he cannot break the glass ceiling of the playoffs. As soon as we get a whiff of the top six we bottle it. We don't have a manager who can motivate the players week in, week out. There just isn't a winning mentality instilled at the club. 'Give it a reet good go and impress the scouts' seems to be the order of the day.

Pretty much agree 100%.

If the progress since Appleton is not enough for some, watch both quarter final replays in the past two years back to back starting with the millwall one.

It's the consistency you need for this league. Look at Derby, bit of a wobble and now they are looking like another playoff shoot out - and they have "proven" man.

Can I ask why chaddy? This season has seen a regression in our league performance, though he has been able to keep all his best players- those players are the ones that have shown a bit of quality to win us a few games, without which it would have been even poorer, as tactically and motivationally he seems bereft of ideas.

It looks very likely that we will lose at least some of those players in the summer, so on what grounds do you think things will improve next season?
