Proudtobeblue&white Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Wheelock reporting Hanley still not fit, so Killy and Henry/Spurr for CB's, JR definitely in starting line up. Need to get back to winning ways, but as GB says, we'll be giving it a reet good go!

Need to get back to winning ways, but as GB says, we'll be giving it a reet good go! We are far better with 5 in midfield, as is evidenced by the cup games. Could prove to be a long night at ewood, we are rubbish with two up front.
rigger Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Isn't that the one where we won 1-0 with a 'Faz' goal. Terrific atmosphere but bit of a backs against the wall job. Especially in the railway end
Husky Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I would be surprised if it isn't a completely revamped team considering the effort the players put in at Anfield. Baptiste and Spearing can't play, and I suspect Williamson, Gestede and one or two more will be given a well earned rest. The game provides a chance for the manager to have a look at one or two players with a view to next season. I’m sorry but I’m just not having that. I know tiredness is often an excuse we use but if a professional athlete can’t even play two 90 minute (including a 15 minute rest) games a week then they should consider themselves an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE! It’s been said many times during the past 3 years or so that we are slow, laboured and unfit; If that’s the case then the whole “fitness team” needs getting rid of as they seem completely incompetent.
RevidgeBlue Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 It was only the Div 3 bit I found unlikely There was a game away at Burnden Park Bolton c1973 when both teams were going well in the old 3rd division (Div 1 now) which attracted a gate of over 33k. Bolton dominated the League that season and ended up being crowned Champions. Allardyce was playing at CB for the Trotters I think. They battered us for most of the game but we defended brilliantly and we won 1-0 late in the game when their keeper Charlie Wright spilt a high cross and I think it was our CB "Faz" Derek Fazackerley who slid in the winner. Probably the best game and performance I've ever seem from a Rovers side, I was 9 at the time. Unfortunately we only finished 3rd that season, it was 2 up 2 down at the time and the very next season, typical of our fortunes in those days, 3 up 3 down was introduced! The 1975 game at Ewood in old Div 2 attracted a gate of 24 k which was probably 2.5 - 3x the average at the time because it was billed as a special one off Centenary game with loads of pre match and half time entertainment etc. The 1977/ 8 game in the old Div 2 (Championship now) at Ewood saw a complete reversal in the fortunes of the Clubs. I think we were relegated to Div 3 at the end of that season whereas Bolton were promoted with tremendous players like the young Peter Reid. As SG says 27k on with about 18 or 19 from Bolton and their fans invaded the Blackburn End dividing it into two distinct sections with a big self imposed gap in the middle. The Health and Safety wallahs would have had a heart attack these days but in those days the game carried on regardless. Edit: Just checked and my memory is slightly out. We finished 5th that season but were very much on the downslide as Jim Smith left in March to be replaced by the clueless Norman Bodell as Caretaker and subsequently JIm Iley who lasted until October of the following season at the end of which we were relegated.

How unfit must they be .. Christ I'm 48 and could still do two games a week . Are they teachers in disguise ?
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I hope I'm wrong but I'm expecting the usual Rovers " after The Lord Mayor's show " type performance. I can't see a win but I really hope I'm wrong.
joey_big_nose Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 My guess is:- ---------------Steele Henley---Killy©---Henry---Spurr Taylor---Williamson--Evans---Olsson -----------Brown----Rhodes I like others am inclined to say we are better with five in the middle. However there is no way we are going to not play Rhodes for the rest of the season. So the above is the likely team IMO. Though to he honest Conway, Cairney, Marshall or Gestede could start and I would not be surprised. I think we have now progressed to the stage where there literally isn't a single definite starter apart from Kilgallion (and he has only got there in the last six weeks or so). Know its a squad game but that is pretty extraordinary. Not a single settled position, even goal keeper, apart from one centre back...
adsfortheblues Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 1800 tickets bolton have sold and they have a go at our support.
AllRoverAsia Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 We are at home to bloody Bolton - why ever go 5 in midfield at home to that shower? OK if it's a PL team and you hope to hit them on the break (that's a joke btw) or from a set piece but at home in the Championship play 2 up front.

How many time have we said that though mate and it just hasn't worked!
Butty Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 1800 tickets bolton have sold and they have a go at our support. There is the argument that it's a midweek game but still that's very poor, I'm sure we took just short of 3000 under Appleton 2 years ago and that was a midweek game and we were playing terribly at the time.
RevidgeBlue Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 How many time have we said that though mate and it just hasn't worked! Can't be bothered to check but I'd wager we've been far more successful at home with Rhodes and Gestede up front than with just one of them.
Gav Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 1800 tickets bolton have sold and they have a go at our support. Bolton have always had worse support than us in the modern era, 1800 is a good effort by them!

There'll be about 2.5k by KO probably. A lot from Darwen and that side of Bolton always come down to pay on the day for this.
JWUpper Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 @OneRovers: ROVERS: Steele, Henley, Henry, Kilgallon ©, Olsson, Conway, Cairney, Evans, Marshall, Brown, Rhodes.
West Yorks Rover Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 @OneRovers: ROVERS: Steele, Henley, Henry, Kilgallon ©, Olsson, Conway, Cairney, Evans, Marshall, Brown, Rhodes. I can see Rhodes scoring tonight, at least one.
Mercer Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Gone for a 4-1 Rovers' win tonight. Easy pickings looking at that Bolton team.
G Somerset Rover Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Mercer why do you persist in doing that? You know full well we never comfortably beat teams in the championship. Must be nigh on a year since we have yet you predict it every week right now.

rovers11 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Get on Rhodes to score more than one tonight. Facing a very poor team and Rhodes usually responds to speculation by banging in a goal or two. Easy money ?

rovers11 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Licence to print money (that'll get a few going) ! He'll get one for sure, but short odds for that. Decent odds for 2 or more though.
