I thought it was pretty entertaining if lacking in quality and direction.

Wow, having got over the fact we scored, reflecting, it was up there with Blackpool/Rotherham as a bore fest to beat all bore fests. Positives? Steele stood up well and dealt with everything that came at him.

Tom in the centre works.

We won.

That's about it.

Another win at Charlton, and beat Brentford, who knows? I went to Brentford and they battered us, play like that again next Tuesday and they will do the same.

Perhaps we had tired legs after Sunday, but Bolton really are poor.

I don't know the answer to our best combo up front, but we cannot discount JR. or Rudy. They both score goals, and we have to retain both!

My lad couldn't be ars*d, so that's the 12,999!

An animated and angry Rhodes clearly remonstrating with someone in the directors' box during his celebration.

Isn't that the same place GG is always obsessed with?

I don't want to start any more conspiracy theories, but it makes you wonder just who or what is up there.

So rather than give credit to some solid foundations - which we all craved for, you'd prefer to use it as a stick to call Hanley ****? I assume that's what your implying!

Hanley's absence has been the common denominator in all of those games. It's a valid observation.

Indeed, quite a bizarre post all things considered

Great way to win a game and Rhodes makes amends for the sitter with the winner.

Things I noted tonight -

Great header from Henry for the goal but he's a little over-zealous at the back. Good that he had Kilgallon alongside him.

Spurr is distinctly average.

Marshall looks like he's carrying a bit of timber and appears to have lost a yard of pace.

Cairney was good in the centre of a 4-4-2 and involved in all that Rovers did well.

Brown has a prodigious work rate but is a very poor footballer.

Steele made 2 very good saves but doesn't fill me with confidence under the high ball...and his kicking is woeful.

Williamson was decent again.

A pretty woeful game between 2 mediocre sides but good to be on the right side of it for once.

Brentford have a plus 12 goal difference so we would need 12 points to go above them, can't believe some one bit

:D

That reasoning is a lot less sound than you think it is. If we were to close the 11 point gap between us and Brentford, that would mean them losing games (GD worsening), and us winning games (GD improving) Suppose ours increases by about 6, and theirs drops by about 6, which is hardly a big stretch of the imagination, that goal difference could get a lot tighter. We play them soon too. A three goal win for instance (yes, I know) and that would be half the GD gap closed in one fell swoop.

Not that I'm holding out any real expectations for it.

I found the game really frustrating, particularly in the second half when Bolton effectively killed the game and we dropped to their standard. I just couldn't see a goal but great credit to Cairney for the delivery, Henry for knocking it on and Rhodes for being alive to the situation. I am loathe to be critical when the objective (winning) is achieved so well done to all even if it all was a bit like after the Lord Mayor's Show.

Really poor game up until about the hour mark, then it got slightly better albeit with the same low level of quality on show.

Steele did well and deservedly got MOTM, 1 goal conceded in 4 games is very good so credit to the defenders that have played in this spell.

Cairney was our best outfield player and showed that he's better in the centre. Marshall needs a rocket up his backside I think, we know what he's capable of but since his excellent run of form in October/November we've barely seen any of his ability.

Well done to Rhodes. Only in exceptional circumstances should Brown be starting ahead of Gestede (such as the game directly before Liverpool to wrap Rudy in cotton wool) - in other words, don't start Brown often.

Always love beating that lot. Horrible fans, horrible manager and horrible team. Niggly, dirty, constantly barracking the ref. Brown and Rhodes were practically assaulted for most of the game and as soon as Gestede comes on and gives a bit back, they're rolling all over the place. He's very much an exponent of the dark arts Lennon and its always doubly satisfying to beat thuggish ugly teams like that.

There's never a good time, is there? Tell you what, instead of ALWAYS doing this, I've a job for you.

Go and run off the stats for the different Rovers centre back partnerships this season, and let me know the what the goals conceded look like. It would genuinely be interesting but I'd like you to do it so that you can't just dismiss it.

Feel free to draw your own conclusions.
