yoda Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I don't really care if you were taking the @#/?? I've heard the point mooted repeatedly about the goal difference being like an extra point. Pardon the pun but you are missing the point, for us to be in 6th place as it stands we would need 12 more points. Don't forget folks, points mean prizes

Proudtobeblue&white Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I found the game really frustrating, particularly in the second half when Bolton effectively killed the game and we dropped to their standard. I just couldn't see a goal but great credit to Cairney for the delivery, Henry for knocking it on and Rhodes for being alive to the situation. I am loathe to be critical when the objective (winning) is achieved so well done to all even if it all was a bit like after the Lord Mayor's Show. I'm not sure there was any standard other than bad up until 60 mins, and the game opened up. They had the great chance to score, one on one, but Steele went big and prevented a defeat. We are not fortress Ewood at the moment. The pitch is s*it, and needs to be sorted. I'm finding it hard to get excited still, and came home thinking we missed an opportunity to stamp our mark on a game again.
Rover_Shaun Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I don't really care if you were taking the @#/?? I've heard the point mooted repeatedly about the goal difference being like an extra point. so we beat Brentford which let's Ipswich in and then we are 16 goals off them. There is more to it than just us winning enough, which in itself is unlikely as hell. The seasons over bar the cup. Let's look to what the new man can do next season (its the hope thats kills you)
Backroom Tom Posted March 11, 2015 Backroom Posted March 11, 2015 Won't start even considering a shot at the playoffs yet but 6 points in the next 2 will start the pain of hoping again. I imagine though we will finish strong; ultimately fail but it will be enough for people to say we are close and Bowyer deserves another shot.
Backroom DE. Posted March 11, 2015 Backroom Posted March 11, 2015 We will essentially need to win every remaining match to get into the playoffs. I wouldn't be too optimistic.

Absolutely, win the next two games, slight chance, I'd love it to happen, but don't see it when we couldn't beat Blackpool at home. We are too inconsistent.
RevidgeBlue Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Quite a pattern developing here: Rhodes starts. He scores. We win. The clown of a manager drops him. We draw or lose Repeat. Other than the goal terrible game. Brown must be vying for the title of worst striker ever to play for Blackburn Rovers with Paul McKinnon. Rhodes did seem to be angry with someone when he scored, I thought his ire was directed rather more towards the dug out than up in the stands. Someone commented earlier that Rhodes and Gestede can't play together. I think they could under a decent manager. Marshall and Conway can play well on occasion but generally contribute painfully little between them. Marshall is playing particularly poorly at the moment imo.

Don't forget folks, points mean prizes So you were taking the @#/? and now you're defending your 'joke' point? Hmmmmmmm. It doesn't matter how it stands now, it matters how it stands at the end of the season. That's the point. It will stand with us outside of 6th, but I'm just saying. Close the 11 point gap and we would have a decent shot, as the GD would swing as a necessity of that. To be honest though I've been saying for a while one of those teams up there will have a bit of a collapse. And my pick for that has been Brentford for quite a while. I expect Ipswich to take their place in there.

JBiz Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 There's never a good time, is there? Tell you what, instead of ALWAYS doing this, I've a job for you. Go and run off the stats for the different Rovers centre back partnerships this season, and let me know the what the goals conceded look like. It would genuinely be interesting but I'd like you to do it so that you can't just dismiss it. Feel free to draw your own conclusions. Don't need to. How many games have we won that Rudy started in the past month as opposed to Rhodes? Don't answer cos I'm not interested but I'm sure there are a hundred stats we could prune from any set of results to suit any opinion. Not arguing with anyone about our defensive form this season, particularly the Duffy and Hanley partnership. Was extremely ropey. The conclusion I've come to though, is I don't like the incessant slagging or writing off of players that goes on 24/7 on BRFCC. I think even Abbey would agree with that based on his sarcastic rhodes comments lately. When I'm looking at our overall performance - the improvement lately comes more from Killgallon looking like someone worthy of an extension IMO. In the couple of games prior to Hanleys injury, I thought he and Killa looked good. How does an individual make it in football by being simply a "mate of the manager" would be a question I'd love a few to answer. Even with the perfect support, we've seen how far agents sons get in football, even after that "worldie tackle".. Hanley, Lowe etc are decent players for this team. I've seen enough of both (since both got into first team) to hold that view. When the "teachers pet" comments come out or "GB ruined Rhodes", I reach for the sick bag.
Husky Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 We will essentially need to win every remaining match to get into the playoffs. I wouldn't be too optimistic. I can't remember the last time we won convincingly in the league. Can anyone else? I guess Charlton at home..........as they were diabolical (but will no doubt turn into an "amazing team from the Capital City that used to be in the toppest league you know" by Saturday). I kind of thought we could (a little bit) win all of our remaining games around this stage last season. But now we've regressed and the top lot as a pack have improved slightly (i.e. - there are not 2 breakaway teams this year) so this time around, we've seriously got no chance and I have almost zero belief we could win even most of our remaining games. We've got more chance of winning the F.,A. Cup!

Gestede together would be great if we still had Stuart Ripley on one wing and Damian Duff on the other with Eyal Berkovic and David Batty In midfield. But we haven't - so playing two players who are less than blessed with any sort of pace up front along with four ordinary players in midfield usually ensures that we get over run in midfield. At least we've learnt that this season.
tomphil Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Been waiting years for a last minute winner against that Manc overspill smackhead town lot. Beautiful moment. Typical championship game full of endeavour but a bit low on quality. Bolton where sharp and caused us probs on the break but we stuck at it and put bodies on the line again. Both teams knocked it about well in patches though. I actually thought we were just playing well and putting Rudy on just then took the momentum of us getting some passes together away. Nevertheless the best sub of the night was the one that didn't happen but usually does, i.e Rhodes off. For crying out loud Gaz learn from this !!!!! He didn't have a great game Jordan and struggled at times with Bowtons physical stuff but he was a bit unlucky twice. Pulling him in and out of league games doesn't do him any favours. As so often he came up trumps again. Best poacher in the division bar non. You pay big money for goalscorers because they score, you keep them when they keep doing so. His goals are priceless to Rovers and he will not be replaced nor will the team suddenly kick into great form as soon as he's gone. Appreciate what we have for gods sake, it isn't our money that keeps him nor will we get it if he's sold.

We've got more chance of winning the F.,A. Cup! Indeed so. We'll finish 8th-12th this season, and right now that's exactly the level we're at. A handful of decent players to produce individual moments of good football to win matches, but nowhere near the correct levels of preparation, motivation or gameplan to be a serious threat to the promotion places.

Brown should never start unless it's desperate times, for me any two from rhodes, Rudy and king can work together, all 3 likely to be gone in summer.
JBiz Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Cobblers. Do some research, it'll do you good. Since I was at one of the games I don't need to. Hanley was better than he's been for while and also was decent in the away game prior according to the radio. I particularly remember him having his timing back in terms if his stopping and jumping forward to intercept. Killa is a good covering defender, part of the problem for me with Duffy and Hanley was they are both natural front line CBs- aerial and quick. Neither could adapt to a role organising. Killgallon is certainly showing better form than Dann ever did- which illustrates why we have players throwing good performances next to him- even one lad 3 hours off the train.
USABlue Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Be a very tough game at Charlton, they've won 5 out of their last 6, only beaten by Derby away. Their new manager has a look of Gordon Lee too. Nah it will be a cake walk, just ask Mercerman
chaddyrovers Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Rhodes does what he does best. score goals. pleased we beat Bolton cos I think Bolton were a very dirty team and constantly looking for cheap fouls all the team. the ref was a joke. might aswell been wearing a Bolton Shirt tbh. haha. very pleased with the clean sheet and our 3rd in 4 games. the defence looks might better without Hanley. please sell him in the summer. I thought Cairney did well in centre midfield and I would build my team around him tbh. Also Steele deserve to be the Man of the Match. made some good saves.
tomphil Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Yeah I forgot to give an honourable mention to Steele. He was excellent all night and a couple of match winning saves. Possibly his best all round game in a Rovers shirt ?

At least we've learnt that this season. It doesn't help when you have two wide men playing on the wrong flanks who contribute very little either in an offensive or defensive capacity. For me you could easily lose one of them if the midfield needed bolstering.
