Some blasts from the past there Parson. Difference being they were signed as youngsters for the reserves/youth team and not for the first team squad. Unlike these days.

Poor Jimmy Corbett (Injury prone. Who was at Rovers for 5 years without making an appearance)

Plenty bought for the first team also and hardly played. Burnett was first team, Lee Makel also Matt Dickens? A several others.

Parsons spot on, but different times I agree.

Cheers Kamy for the info but we are basically at the mercy of Mrs D.. No way to run a football club or any business for that matter.. IMHO the club won't get any better whilst these loons are still around

Chaddy you was creaming over nickos article on boro the other day, does this now mean you think nickos posts crap ?

He'll change his mind as usual

Gav Makel was only 19 and Dickens was only ever supposed to be backup for Mimms. Neither were destined for the first team so cannot be in the Brown bracket.

I disagree Shaun, we didn't buy players in those days that we never thought would make it. We bought players destined for the first team, some played, some didn't.

I can still see that goal for Wolves fly through Dickens hands into the net at the Bburn end, don't think he played again after that.

Sheffield United will announce their new manager later today, Nigel Adkins is the odds on favourite.

A very good appointment IMO. Expect them to get promoted next season. Other than at the start of last season with Reading Adkins has done well everywhere he has been.

Notice that Sheffield United, whilst marooned in the third division for five years, have recently appointed Nigel Clough and now Nigel Adkins. Two experienced managers with pedigree in the Championship.

Makes me wonder why some people continue to advocate replacing Bowyer with another rookie like Ainsworth or Keith Hill.

Where has this link with Leon Clarke come from? Dear oh dear, it is going to be a long summer and season I imagine.

Bowyer has a list of players that he would want to look at should Gestede and/or Rhodes leave, Clarke is one of those players, but I would very much doubt that he is top of the list. But in our position with the embargo I suppose it is prudent for the manager to look at all options.

Surely it makes sense for any transfer dealings to wait on the proposed appeal against FFP by QPR? Mid June was mentioned as a possible date for any announcement. I think the board and owners would be silly to act before then.

Yup that is what seems to be happening, not just at Rovers but throughout the championship. The problem is that the football league can and most likely will appeal against any judgement in favour of QPR which would really cause chaos throughout the league.

It's a very strange thing that really. QPR appealing against FFP and whilst that is happening, I suppose they can sign who they want. In the meantime we can't. If the appeal is successful and the football league rip it up and start again, we may have missed all our targets and opportunities. I suppose it's like hanging the accused criminal, before he has been tried.

Personally, I'd be very surprised if Bowyer hadn't been in control of squad selection or transfers over the last couple of years. I think he's made some good signings and I think he's made some poor signings. Some he hasn't played (Songo'o, Dabo etc) and some he's played far more than he should have (Brown, Evans etc). I think the dropping in JR and the perseverance with Hanley truly suggest Bowyer is in control. I don't think anyone above would be dropping Rhodes nor would they remain as unwavering in their loyalty to Hanley. I don't think this is down to interference in the picking of the team or the acquisition of players, I just think GB isn't the best manager and it shows in his inconsistent signings and tactics/selections.

And if its not GB then there is another total and complete buffoon still at large within the corridors of Ewood !!!

Sammy Ameobi From Newcastle latest .... Newcastle offered him a new contract but Rovers interested ....Freebie

Would be a good signing that, though if Newcastle are offering him a contract and he's from there, I imagine it would be difficult to prise him away....

Didn't do them much good appointing Clough though did it? Apart from some stirring Cup runs.

I've always said , it's not how experienced you are, it's how good you are that counts. There are any number of managerial duds out there on the merry go round with bags of experience.

Fair point about us though I guess, but I don't think we're failing because of GB's relative lack of experience, it's because he hasn't proved good enough. I don't see he'll suddenly turn into an outstanding manager in 5 years time. Although everyone does seem to be tootling along down at the Ewood and Brockhall holiday camp as though promotion anytime before 2030 will suffice.

Macho Positioning?

The owners have turned down bids for both Rhodes and Gestede in the past 12 months.

The owners have the vaulation on both players and wont accept bids for any less.

What decisions are irrational then?

JHRover, the only championship club I can see coming in for Rhodes is Hull City tbh. They will have funds and I expect Bruce will want to reshape his striker options.

I hope we keep both tbh and keep most of the squad together.

The owners have turned down bids. Ha!

Got to laugh at you chaddyrovers for coming out with this bunkum.

I can't see us signing many from expiring prem contracts! He must be on at least 20k a week. Maybe not..

Has potential but not as good as King. Like to see it happen because we need some pace in the squad but not sure we can pull it off. Newcaste fans dont seem to be happy about Newcastle offering him a deal though...

At the end of the day, we have not taken action in the face of FFP coming and we have not mitigated it through clever finances. BUT, it's completely unfair that QPR can carry on as normal whilst the legal action takes place. Rovers should have launched legal action themselves but, again, we are not savvy enough. Well, either that or it's a great excuse for people at the club. If there is a legal challenge to FFP then any sanctions in places as a result should be suspended. Particularly as it is only affecting two clubs.

Cheers Kamy. But I can't understand, for the life of me, this statement: "Bowyer has been a long time admirer of Stoke right back Andy Wilkinson, the player has been released by Stoke so if budgets allow it is likely that Rovers would move for him, especially as it looks like Alex Baptiste will be remaining at Bolton".

Surely any plans to sign a full back are not in any way related to Baptiste's availability. If Bowyer has ANY thought that Baptiste is anything but a starting CB then it just goes to further show that he is NOT learning.

Lack of savvy or lack of ambition?

FFP is the perfect excuse for Shaw and the rest of the Ewood 'yes-men' to pretend their hands are tied.

Always the revert to the "bone of contention"... :-)

Did it not help having baptiste available to play both positions? We both know that good squads have those players in abundance. Baptiste was good in both positions last season but it's worth remembering we have Duffy, Hanley and Killa already.
