Looking at his stats sammi ameobi doesn't look that great. 2 goals in 50 odd appearances as a winger. However not seen him play so suspending judgement.

Anyone got an opinion? Is he pacy?

Just what we need. Another pacy, Forrest Gump style duckegg with the composure of condensed milk who couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo.

he looks like bambi on ice when he plays but he's quick, direct and can beat his full back for fun. He's also left-footed. Him and Olsson down that side would be an exiting proposition. He makes things happen which is the type of player we need. I think Wolves were linked with him a few weeks back which is no surprise cos Jackett obv likes quick forwards. He'd be a great signing but i'd imagine he'll be able to attract bigger contract offers than we're allowed to pay. I'd be surprised if a Prem team doesn't take a punt on him.

Asked my Newc fan mate about ameobi:

"He's a bit like an elephant on roller blades. Good dribbler. @#/? finisher. But surprisingly keeps the ball fairly well. He may do ok in the championship but I'd be glad to have him off our wage bill."

If he's prepared to play for a fraction of what he's on now I'd still take a punt on him because of pace. Plus sounds similar to Joshua king Beggars can't be choosers and all.

Why all this nicko hatred I remenber this messageboard being chocker at 11pm waiting for his gossip.and a certian poster getting untold stick for seeing through nicko.

Because he's way out of the loop, and because of this he's got a massive axe to grind where Rovers are concerned, and tries to smear us in the media because he's a fat bitter man.

Other than that though, top bloke.

As far as I can tell all of Nixon's contacts in regards to Rovers disappeared once his golden boy wee Stevie Kean vanished into the night.

Because he's a Pied Piper figure and we have lots of gullible and impressionable individuals who turned instantly nasty on anyone who dared criticise him (he was nasty enough tbh). Nixon's 11 O clockers was quite an addiction for some. Hence me labelling them 'nickoteens'

In fairness to Nixon , he's been reporting on Rovers long before Venky's arrived .

He does occasionally get some good scoops , but over the last couple of years it's been more pin the tail on the donkey .

A lot as I think stated by , Mercerman , is that what was news 5 minutes ago often changes , even more so with the current circus in charge .

Where he gets people's backs up , is when he tries to spice up the stories to have you believe we are willing sellers of our players at silly values , when history proves otherwise .

He certainly has more contacts than any other visitor to these boards across football and should be respected for that

I enjoyed reading nickos 11 o clockers. I didn't always believe him or take what he said as gospel. However, in those days he did have some contacts within the club and there was a grain of truth in what he wrote. Since then his contacts are non existent but he continues to write stuff about us and it's now all to our detriment. He hasn't written a positive story about us in years. I know there hasn't been a lot of positives but there have been some he could have flagged up but instead he chooses, for whatever reason, to put out only negative transfer stories about us.

Latterly his 11 o clockers congested the board with hits from far and wide for sure and as a result his words very often appeared in print elsewhere. The LT was particularly guilty of this I seem to rem. Sorting the wheat from the chaff was the key.

BUT... Lets not forget that ANY scrap of reputation he had gained on here was instantly destroyed as soon as he was seen as very influential over BRFC supporters and was effectively 'got at' by the then power behind the Venky throne. The Dark Lord's instruction projected via Nicko that Steve Kean was actually a 'gem' blew his credibility completely and ultimately put an end to his time on here.

To be fair to Nixon he does seem to still have some good contacts in the game, and has been right a few times on Rovers related issues.

However, he certainly appears to have an axe to grind with Rovers, and seems to have an unhealthy obsession with Jordan Rhodes. Nixon must have been responsible for linking Rhodes with moves to about 15 different clubs in the last 2 years. Now maybe he was correct and they were all interested in signing him, but he seems to channel all his energy into that speculation and the knock on effect is that other news agencies pick up on it and copy him.

Last year with the Hull interest for example, I remember that he was the first to pick up on the Hull bid and expected it to be concluded (as it later turned out so did Steve Bruce and Gary Bowyer). So he must have some good contacts.

One day his dream will come true and Rhodes will not be a Rovers player. I do wonder if he will then continue with his weekly transfer window stories of clubs wanting to sign Rhodes, or whether he'll just give up at that point.

I actually heard , don't know how true it is , that when Kean first came to Rovers that Nixon was actually one of his references .

Why a journo would be a reference I don't know , so laughed it off at the time . However I did hear this from 2 different people who were not linked to each other

Took a bit of stick for backing the guy, but if you ever met him and listened to him and watched how he does his business he is impressive.

He knows what he wants and is willing to put himself out to get it.

Of course he has made mistakes - every manager does. Signing Roque was a mistake. He wasn't the only one who thought he would magically click at Rovers. He SHOULD have signed a better striker. It would have made all of the difference.

However I would back the guy to be a success.

And...

If you are a fan you are always heart-broken with relegation. I would know a bit more about that than you in the past 30 years with my mob...but we will move on.

As for the managerial change...you buy the club, you make the call. That's what Venkys did.

I love this belief that Hoilett would have played under Sam and been allowed to go where he wants on the pitch and try things. We must be talking about another Sam.

I do think you might have a gem in the manager. But he is going to have to prove it in the next six weeks.

Should have just stuck to incorrect transfer stories.

He was the first to warn us about Robbie Fowler coming I remember (was as amazed as any of us)!

And that was way pre-Kean.

Nicko was telling us at one stage last season that Rhodes was going to Wigan I think it was because Rovers couldn't afford the next 2 mill instalment that was due and the club were down to their last 400 quid or something in the bank. Maybe someone was getting their own back on him but where Rhodes is concerned he's tried every trick in the book to stir it up. He's a tosser for so many reasons these days.

Since 2013 Nixon has linked Rhodes to the following clubs:

Bolton throughout the summer of 2013. When his mate Freedman was manager. Subsequently blamed the failure to sign Rhodes on Eddie Davies not stumping up enough cash.

Wigan towards the end of summer 2013 (when his mate Coyle was manager). Subsequently blamed Dave Whelan for not backing Coyle.

Norwich at the start of the summer of 2014.

Hull at the end of summer of 2014 (only occasion that there is clear evidence a bid went in and was seriously considered).

Nottingham Forest in March 2015 (now his mate Freedman is manager)

Derby also in March 2015.

Middlesbrough initially in March 2015 when they were going to loan him and then buy him if they went up, then as recently as last week when they were going to bid £6 million.

I'm sure there are others that I can't recall off the top of my head. It seems very strange why he has such a fixation on Rhodes leaving Rovers. I wonder if Rhodes had joined his beloved Dougie last year whether he would now be reporting interest from other clubs or whether he would leave Dougie to get on with the job without stirring up speculation in the press.

The truth is that any Championship club would be interested in signing Rhodes at the right price. You don't need to be in the know or well connected to work that one out. The question is why does Nixon possess such apparent determination to print Rhodes related stories as often as possible. Very odd.
