Because he's had his nose put out of joint as he has no contacts at the club any more.

To be fair, he has been fairly clued up in the past, but now it's more like he's glued up! :tu:

I actually heard , don't know how true it is , that when Kean first came to Rovers that Nixon was actually one of his references .

Why a journo would be a reference I don't know , so laughed it off at the time . However I did hear this from 2 different people who were not linked to each other

Nixon was one of Kean's "references"?

What does that even mean?

Care explaining it in proper English instead of trying to sound all mysterious and conspiratorial?

Or is it just another meaningless statement like someone was someone else's "shadow"?

Ok I see what you mean, because you are completely unable to express yourself in plain English I thought you meant that Nixon was a point of reference for Kean i.e Kean turned to Nixon for advice.

If you'd said "Nixon was one of his referees" or "he provided a reference for Kean" I'd have known what you were talking about.

I can't see Nixon providing a formal reference for Kean would have had any bearing whatsoever on his appointment although the fat Scottish one does like to take credit for recommending Owen Coyle to Burnley. Not the same thing as a formal reference though.

Can someone tell me who this Nixon is? I keep reading about him but don't know who he is. Who is he? What has he done? When did he do it?

A former friend who turned foe. Otherwise known as an agents stooge.

Alan Nixon, username on here "Nicko". Hasn't posted since 2011. He's a tabloid sports writer covering the Lancashire area who wrote mostly for the Mirror when he posted on this website. Used to come on here giving various tidbits of information, most of which came to nothing, but was generally quite well liked at the time. However, he completely ruined his reputation towards the end by furiously backing Steve Kean even when it became obvious the bloke was embarrassingly out of his depth. Got into arguments with various people over the increasingly poor quality of his information and his opinion on Kean before he left entirely. Nowadays can be found on Twitter where he continues to back any Scottish manager. Tends to write absolute nonsense about Rovers as assumedly his contacts at the club are long gone.

Did Mr m shag your mrs over the weekend ? You certainly have a boner for him today .

I was once banned for having the audacity to doubt Nicko. Trufax.

I dint think even I managed that one

Nicko was telling us at one stage last season that Rhodes was going to Wigan I think it was because Rovers couldn't afford the next 2 mill instalment that was due and the club were down to their last 400 quid or something in the bank. Maybe someone was getting their own back on him but where Rhodes is concerned he's tried every trick in the book to stir it up. He's a tosser for so many reasons these days.

£400 that's even less than me!

He also blocks people on twitter for no reason. Literally. First time I ever tried snooping on his twitter page, I was blocked. Strange fellow.

Only credit he'll get from me are his nice words about Jack Walker in the short documentary that can be found on YouTube.

I think you're mistaken Simon. Nixon might well have provided a reference when BRFC employed Kean as a coach in the first place and not when the venkys decided (on dodgy advice I assume) to promote him to Manager and an unimagined level of incompetence.

Nixon 20 years ago........... about 25 seconds in.

I'd imagine he bears more than a passing resemblence to (the late) Donald from 'Benidorm' these days.

Just had a check, assumed I'd be blocked too, but apparently not. Surprising as I've had some pretty straight exchanges with him about his opinions and views on there. Nothing insulting, but very frank discussions nonetheless. I imagine if he ever reads this thread I'll be blocked pretty quickly though
