blueboy3333 Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 Yeah this is the confusing bit. Theoretically we would get 15m quid in and get 35k a week off the wage bill. Surely that would have some impact in allowing us to spend a bit more per week on Gayle? not if we're still under the embargo. My understanding is that could sell everybody in the club but if we're still under embargo we'd still be limited to freebies, loans and a max wage of around £10k...until the embargo is lifted. The bit i'm not sure about is WHEN the decision to lift the embargo/keep the embargo is made by the FA. Is it reviewed every 6 months? Is it reviewed every year when the accounts come out? If we did sell someone for £10m would it be reviewed straight away?

Stuart Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 To be honest, the only way I think our club works outside the prem is to sell proven players like Rhodes and Gestede for hopefully a combined 22 million, get the embargo lifted, then buy replacements nobody has heard of or rates- either from europe or domestic gambles like Gestede was.But we can't buy anyone until at least January. For the options are: 1) Stick with the squad we have. Sell no-one. Stay under embargo. Replace Bowyer and offer the best available, or tempted, manager a hefty promotion bonus. Give the fanbase a massive lift and make a real show of intent about Venkys plan for our club. 2) Same as 1) but keep Bowyer as well. Halfway house. Neither showing intent nor chucking the towel in. Likely to see us target midtable - despite the meaningless, lottery-esque 'pledge'. 3) Sell Rhodes and Gested immediately and bring in some freebies. Done early enough, at least this would bring more certainty to pre-season preparations. Done by a new, proper manager, one would assume it's part of a rebuilding plan, done by Bowyer one would assume it's out of his hands [perhaps unfairly but I have no faith in his ability to assemble a squad from freebies and loans]. 3) Sell Rhodes and Gestede at the last minute after holding out for the best offer. Might enable us to come out of embargo in January but would really upset and disillusion fans who have bought season tickets and rip up the pledge and any ambition once and for all. 4) Stay as we are for now and sell Gestede or Rhodes or both in January when the fee should be higher. If we are doing well in the league it may persuade them to stay anyway. If we are are midtable or worse then much like 4) we are cashing in our chips, and would have to hope for survival but are effectively preparing for life in League One. What a great season we have in store. The best we can hope for is a glamour tie against a PL team. Well after the curtain raiser against the pie eaters that is! What great days to be a Rovers fan.
glen9mullan Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Palace have put a £10 million price tag on Gayle , so why do people think he will be used as a makeweight ? Especially as other Premiership teams are after him

chaddyrovers Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 You've suggested Gayle coming in Chaddy, who isn't going to accept less than £10k per week is he! I asked a Palace fan on twitter who reckon Gayle is on around 16 to 18k a week. Kamy suggestion last week how we could do the Gayle wage I don't see Palace taking Rhodes over a player of the ilk of Remy, there just isn't a comparison between him and JR. Ones proven the other isn't. how likely is Remy likely to leave Chelsea when he is playing some games and winning trophies there anyone thinking gayle would come here is sniffing something! who knows Abbey? but it was just a suggestion that we could do. striker with pace and does score goals To be honest, the only way I think our club works outside the prem is to sell proven players like Rhodes and Gestede for hopefully a combined 22 million, get the embargo lifted, then buy replacements nobody has heard of or rates- either from europe or domestic gambles like Gestede was. that's the way our club has to work now. It's down to Bowyer and his scouts have to find the right players and bring them into the club But we can't buy anyone until at least January. isn't our Embargo set to be review at the start of the July(roughly)? Palace have put a £10 million price tag on Gayle , so why do people think he will be used as a makeweight ? Especially as other Premiership teams are after him Glen, it was a suggestion. that's was all. but we do need a pacey striker in this summer IMO

den Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Kean Out was a red herring, he was a symptom of the real problem Protests could never have achieved critical mass because there are no organizations of fans that could mobilize enough members. They relied on tens of thousands of individual fans each independently hearing about the problem, getting angry enough, hearing about the matches, agreeing it was a good tactic, and being able and willing to do so. Our owners are a long way away and too rich to care about boycotts, falling crowds etc. Their only pressure point is the institutional shareholders in their businesses. Everything should have been directed to getting a negative message about the owners across to them. I said all this at the time. I appreciate that strategy without action is navel gazing, but action without strategy is wasted energy Kean was an arrogant fraudster. Wrong target my backside EIT. He deserved everything he got and more. The owners deserve the same and more.
glen9mullan Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Rovers are more likely to be looking in the bargain bin Players like Gregory from Millwall or Grant Holt from Wigan Relegated clubs are always a hunting ground for clubs as players often have relegation release clauses or can't afford the wages The odd loan here and there , but if Gestede and Rhodes are going to be sold Rovers will need to sign at least 1 full time experienced striker . With Yakubu also being on a free , it wouldn't surprise me if we tried to get him back

Holt? no thanks. Yakubu is a good shout but how old is he? Maybe we could be interest in Cardiff's striker Adam Le Fondre or Leicester's Striker Chris Wood. what people's views on these 2 players?

And you act like a 7 year old having a tantrum half the time, stick a dummy in and shut up lad Careful, you'll have all his cronies on to you. Or he'll mention something about you having a 'stiffy'. Or call you 'Degsy'. He mentions those two things a lot. Makes you wonder. Maybe a fully-engorged Degsy is his ultimate fantasy. You're right though, it's like having an annoying child bleating away in the corner while the grown-ups try to talk. I think it's an attention thing. Hopefully he'll get tired soon and go for a nap.
chaddyrovers Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Kamy on twitter Boro will be making an approach for JR, BUT they will he wasting their time with any bid which is half money upfront & rest if they go up.
Athlete Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 I have to agree with that. We dont want lose Rhodes or Gestede but we got to look at financally tho. Then its down to Bowyer and his scouts to find good replacements and bring 2/3 strikers. The same daily fail also linking Boro again with JR..... IMO the goals both JR and Rudy get are irreplaceable so unless we get lucky with a good loanee we'll be struggling
Stuart Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 No wonder this board has gone loopy lol you can't even count to 5 The two threes are very similar. But I'll give you that one.

As it should be. If we'd done that deal with Boro at Christmas we'd be out of pocket now as they failed to get promoted. They should put up the full amount or shut up. We also owe H'field 20% of any sale apparently so that needs to be factored in.
Backroom DE. Posted June 7, 2015 Backroom Posted June 7, 2015 Kamy on twitter Boro will be making an approach for JR, BUT they will he wasting their time with any bid which is half money upfront & rest if they go up. The chances of them going up next season will be much slimmer imo, as I think the division will be stronger. QPR, Burnley and Hull will do better than the three that came down this year. Norwich started the season with a poor manager, whilst Cardiff and Fulham were in total disarray due to their owners (much like we were when we went down). Burnley will be a force next season, and unfortunately I expect them to be right up there. QPR should still have a decent squad, though admittedly with Ramsey as manager they may falter. Hull under Bruce will still be strong and again, I expect them to be up there challenging. There won't be a Blackpool around to practically guarantee points off, whilst the three coming up from League One will all put up a good fight. Boro can either pay the going rate or get lost. We don't have time to wait for them to get promoted.

Barnes out long term injured. so need 2 strikers/ Hull, need to rebuild their squad and revamp their striker force. Qpr, looking like they are going to totally rebuild their squad and have a younger squad. Blackburn have a chance of making the playoffs next season. for me, its all down to us putting together a good unbeaten run and being consistency, and the quality of the Rhodes and Gestede replacements. here are the odds for the championship including Promotion, winning the league, getting relegation, top 6 finish, etc https://www.skybet.com/football/sky-bet-championship

QPR are the only team I can see struggling, though to an extent it's dependent on how their FFP case pans out. Disappointed to see you using the B word Chaddy, it's "Rovers" around these parts but without a better manager we're not getting anywhere near the playoffs I'm afraid. Bowyer has had two seasons to crack it with the current squad, how will he be able to manage it with a team which is likely to be a lot weaker and at least 20 if not 40 goals worse off, whilst being under an embargo restricting us to free transfers and loans with a wage cap of £10K pw? Realistically if we start next season with Bowyer but without Rhodes and Gestede, our target should be nothing but survival. If we manage to keep one of our strikers, we may manage mid-table again. I'm afraid we've probably blown our chance at reaching the playoffs for the foreseeable future.
