A look a the squad.

The goalkeepers are excellent. Robinson and Kean to leave. steele, Eastwood and Raya competing for place in goal.

The defence next season looks ok.

Bowyer will probably loan Doneil Henry again. Then Duffy comes back along with Hanley from injuries.

Henley will be even better next season and I think Leninhan will compete with Henley at right back along with Lowe. Spurr will

Compete with Olsson at left back.

In midfeld we have Marshall, Cairney, Evans and Conway, with Lee Williamsson. OSullivan and Chris Taylor competing with them for a place in the squad. Also Lowe could play a holding role in midfeld. Feel we are a bit short here but quite good when everyone fit.

If Gestede and Rhodes leaves. We are to rely on Chris Brown at the moment. We have Leon Best but will he play? Young Anthony Forrester could break his duck...and Varney has left and King too. So a strikes are priority.

Gestede wants out and if he doesn't go he will sulk his way through the season. I imagine he will leave tbh and with this I hope GB forgets the horrid hoofball that hindered the potential of the squad. Stick Brown up top and lump it to him and we are in for a dire season. With limited resources I'd look to secure a young, hungry player on loan. I'm not sure the quality of player Bowyer could attract on a free so I'm not even entertaining the thought, especially after Brown and Varney. Then again, out of all his loans I'd say Tunnicliffe and Henry are the only ones who looked decent, so I'm still not overly confident. Keeping hold of Rhodes is a priority IMO. Lose Rhodes and Rudy and we are truly snookered as they won't get replaced. Simple. Then it's up to Bowyer to create a gameplan that finds goals from midfield. Not happened in the last three years so I don't know how anyone can be hopeful for life without Rhodes and Rudy.

Central midfield is also key for me. With the majority of them contributing absolutely nothing going forward, we need to execute a more effective gameplan or bring in someone better. Simples. Evans and Cairney (amongst others) have coasted their way through the season as complete passengers and in Williamson we have a player who has the potential to make a mistake in a very dangerous area due to his lack of pace and (IMO) his general lack of talent. Lowe might be able to compete for the DM spot if he isn't relied on to create anything. Put him next to Evans or Williamson and we are screwed. Intrigued to see if Lenihan can command a starting spot. Looked assured at centre half and far more confident than Spurr, despite it also not being his natural position. Rated by Hasselbaink which is a good sign IMO. I'd like to see Mahoney or someone competing for the right wing spot. I think Chris Taylor performed well in bursts but was often played out of position by Bowyer and never truly threatened Marshall's place, something that surprised me as I think he was very poor last term. I think the lack of competition has made Marshall complacent, a common theme amongst the boys at Brockhall. Conway seems to be slowing down but still a very useful player and certainly our best midfielder last season.

Defensively, I'd stick to Olsson on the left. Spurr is painfully slow and although his long throw is reasonably effective, I think he's a lower-Champ player at best. Kilgallon and Duffy should be starting IMO but I have no faith in Bowyer dropping Hanley. If Hanley remains as captain come the start of the season, it will be a sign of things to come (bad things). Henry on loan to compete with those three would be ideal. For right back, Henley looked good towards the end of the season, far better than when he was being chopped and changed by Bowyer. A back-up signing or loan would give us added cover, possibly someone pushing for a start. Competition for places is key this year.

I know a lot on here criticise Steele but I'm confident he has the ability to realise the potential he has been said to have. He can be a little shaky but I don't think having the likes of Hanley or Spurr playing centre half inspired him with much confidence. Sometimes he'd pull off some blinding saves and then look lost when claiming an aerial ball. Eastwood and Raya offering good competition.

IMO the key to this season is not who we sign but added competition, retaining Rhodes/Rudy, losing the horrendous hoofball, creating a tactic where the team attacks and defends as a unit, dominates the midfield (or at least competes) and also IMPROVE FITNESS. This is why I've called for Bowyer's head as I don't think he has it in his locker to make the required changes as he hasn't for the past two years, nor does he strike me as a man that commands the respect of the players (from my limited observations). I have often wondered what goes on down at Brockhall, with the players certainly getting slower and looking more unfit. However, it seems we are stuck with Gary so all we can do is hope he sees the glaring cracks and can rectify at least some of them. I'm not confident, which is a shame as I think a talented manager could achieve at least play-offs with BRFC.

The keepers aren't excellent at all. 2 are adequate and 1 is a good prospect.

The defence is the same one that struggled last season. Lowe is a midfielder and imo is poor at right back although the lad tries his best. Lenihan should be played in his correct position when he gets a chance and not just chucked in the team somewhere else for the sake of games.

The defence needs the best people in it in their correct positions and should be allowed to settle and be left alone. If there are injuries then round pegs for round holes should be the first choice replacements whenever possible. We need the manager to be the manager not a youth coach trying to keep everyone happy and in their match bonuses !

You're premise is fine if the club wasn't a blue eyed boys network

The Daily Snail is a pathetic paper sport wise.

Where do Boro get £12m from in one shot? Answer is they don't and we wont sell unless they pay the going fee.

I don't see Palace taking Rhodes over a player of the ilk of Remy, there just isn't a comparison between him and JR. Ones proven the other isn't.

Gestede is the player who is MORE likely to go and ONLY when the fee required is met. We know its around £7m that the club value him at so that has to be the ballpark figure for any deal to go ahead.

The papers are full of speculation, there isn't much else to talk about and they fill the pages with rubbish.

Palace have Murray too and didn't he outscore JR in the championship so what is the difference. . Also wasnt Boro supposed to offering 6mil. . Have they really doubled their valuation in one week.

Can we stop this rubbish NOW!

you might want to aim that at the person who started it with the snarky comment about playing fifa. It's the same one who always starts it. When he grows up and accepts other people with a different opinion/viewpoint to his then the MB might become a nicer place.

Does anyone know how things are progressing with QPR and their battle with FFP?

I have a feeling that they'll get off with a small fine and we'll be no closer to being able to buy players!

I can't see it any other way. A significantly reduced fine and a slap on the wrist.

Unfortunately for us, we desperately need QPR to win and get FFP scrapped. Selling players like Rhodes/Gestede and replacing them with freebies and loans is only going to end badly in the long term.

I think that's what we'll be doing FFP or no FFP.
