If 9 clubs genuinely are interested in Rhodes then let the bidding war commence!

As expected, a very quiet 6 weeks thus far since the season finished.

Chelsea have put a 10m price tag on Patrick Bamford, Jordan outscores him for fun in the goal stakes, 3 seasons on the trot 20 goals + and that's despite our illustrious manager benching him on several occasions this season. If he goes it has to be around the 15m mark.

Have you been playing Championship manager again blueboy? It doesn't work like that. First off you should start by asking the agents of McCarthy Rhodes and Gestede whether any of them want to be at BRFC next season.

Hope I'm not being pedantic but Gestede's scoring rate is better than JR's. He scored 1 more goal off fewer appearances.

He'd be useless here. Whose he got to play all those nifty little one two's with?

JR has scored more than 20 goals in his last six seasons that's some going a lot better record than Rudy

I thought Blueboy had spent months getting stuck into those who wanted Bowyer out?

Am I wrong?

Plenty of support on here for McCarthy going back a while.

no, just getting 'stuck into' the people who blamed Bowyer for everything and refused to give him credit for anything. Maybe that's a bit too subtle for you.

that's why i said doing everything 'in their power'. That means asking and trying to persuade both Gestede and Rhodes to stay and McCarthy to join. It might be a long shot but it's hardly 'Football Manager' territory.

Good to see your thinking more positively.

Blueboy a serious question but what should we give GB credit for please?

It's a good question, requiring deeper thought than some will apply. Keeping the club up deserves credit. Not major credit, we didn't win seven on the bounce and he didn't kick a ball. But we didn't go down and I'll always be grateful for that. But that's when his problems started and the rest is open to conjecture.

Wondering why he let 22 points slip from winning positions and why he persisted with Hanley. He can also reflect on a job well done but that he fell short when it mattered.

I'll ignore your 2nd line...a redundant comment.

for taking over a club that was in serious serious trouble of a 2nd relegation and steering it to safety. For rebuilding a squad full of overpaid dross who really were just here for the money and replacing them with players who at least looked liked they wanted to play for the badge. He did this on a transfer budget a lot smaller than a lot of managers in this league. Some of those players will also go for big profits. He has also got the youth set-up functioning again and made sure that the players who might get a chance to come through have been out on loan to get first-team football.

People have very short memories and underestimate just what a mess the whole club was when he took over.

He's made mistakes too, and he has ultimately failed in the objective of at least reaching the play-offs but the PLAYING SIDE of the club is in a lot better state than when he took over. Only an idiot would deny that. There'll be a few a long soon though to do just that.

With all the comments flying around about those who protested and those who didn't, it seems astonishing that some people have to still ask what there is to be grateful for. Maybe you don't feel it's necessary to direct any gratitude towards Bowyer. But I can't understand how anyone can fail to feel any gratitude that we aren't faced with that hate filled atmosphere every week. That damn near ruined football for me. Doesn't mean I relish being a club riddled with debt with owners in situ who are (to a large degree) culpable for the mess. But at least we now mostly moan about the football and not hushed dossiers, directors of football straight out of Billy Smarts circus, fans advising know nowt staff about future signings, players sidelined because of contractual clauses etc etc. Boring boring football talk is all we're left with really. And that's okay with me.

100% agree.

Failed in his objective but has left the club in a far better state than how he found it.

Indeed. However the fact remains that in the 18 months that he has been here Gestede has outscored Rhodes.

I've read it 3 or 4 times now and I still have no idea which side you come down on PV, but that probably more about me than your post!

A very decent performance as Manager of a mid table squad on the backdrop of having to bin off his 'best players' at the same time. Why on earth wouldn't you give him credit for that?

In 97/98 Dion Dublin outscored Owen, Bergkamp, Cole and Hasselbaink.

Does that make him better?

I thought not.

In 00/01 Marcus Stewart outscored Thierry Henry..........oh dear

And we still can't get promoted.

Thats because neither of them would get into the 2000/1 team automatically unless either Bent of Jansen got injured.

imo. :rover:

So in effect you are saying that JR contributes plenty to the team effort when he doesn't score......oh dear. :P

When he doesn't score Rhodes may as well be sat next to me in the JW Upper for all the use he is.

But he hasn't had to has he? Quite the contrary, the owners backed him to the hilt by resisting large bids for Gesture and Rhodes and not insisting anyone else was sold despite the finances.

And despite all that he still couldn't deliver.

As I've said many times Simon, how many of the current squad would even get near to the 2000/1 promotion squad... and even with that lot we only finished in a last gasp second place.

You used goals over a short period as the yardstick. Once again you move the goalposts when you are blown out of the water. Hmmmmmm

I used a direct comparison. You are the one who is using supposition.

Hardly. It's because we don't have Dunn, Duff, Berkovic, Berg, Short, Todd et al. I.e. A mixture of youth, experience and savvy loans.

Oh and a decent manager.

How many of Burnley's team of 2013/14 would get into our 2000/1 promotion squad?

How many of the Bournemouth players would you have placed in the 00/01 Rovers squad at the start of the season, I wonder?
