We seriously linked to Maynard?

Also rodegalla from Fulham has been released could be worth a punt

Halford and Guthrie have also been released, always been a fan of both and would be decent especially Guthrie as he is a ball winning midfielder who can pass the ball forward for once ha

How desperately does Watford want him is the question. If they see Rudy as their main target they are willing to spend the fee Rovers are asking. Also it's both clubs best to do business early. I do expect this one is done in a week.

They've just won the jackpot, earning the largest payout ever for a soon to be relegated PL that we will (if we avoid relegation) be facing in 16/17. We should not be offering him on the cheap.

So why was he released.

A few people have been saying similar things about released players - "they've released him so he must be rubbish", "why would you release a good player" etc etc. I think what we need to remember though is that FFP has changed things more than just implementing bans to certain clubs. Clubs now have to be more clever in terms of their wage bills and amount of players within their squads, therefore some clubs will probably be releasing players they otherwise wouldn't release pre-FFP. It is now more of a one in one out policy for a lot of clubs. Therefore the quality of players available on free transfers is now higher than previous.

Look at some of they players available - Paul Mcshane, Richard Dunne, Zamora, Jamie Ward, John Eustace, Maynard, Danny Collins, Greg Halford, Mackail-Smith, Guthrie, Marc-Antoine Fortune, Ali Al-Habsi - these are just a few, and all of these mentioned players are players who with the right club and a good run in a team would be very good championship players.

Rovers have released Chris Taylor and haven't decided on whether they will offer him a new contract, this wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for FFP, they would have offered him a new contract simple as that, however they have to try and be clever with it like other clubs and think to themselves "well if we want that player, then we will have to release a player we would otherwise have kept".

So we're 6 weeks into the summer, almost half way, and the 1 meeting that needs to take place before a transfer strategy is put in place hasn't happened yet. Would love to know why not. I think the inertia hurts more than the bungling incompetence.

Gestede pimping himself out with comments about playing in the Premiership, looks like he'll do anything to get away, Watford will be playing us in the Championship again next season Rudy, is it really the best move?

Surely the answer is for those players you mention to reduce their asking price (wages)? In effect, FFP has reintroduced a maximum wage - which is why I wouldn't have thought it would be legal - something that Jimmy Hill et al fought long and hard for (to the detriment of clubs like Rovers, Bolton, Blackpool) now people are trying to bring it back (to the detriment of clubs like Rovers, Bolton, Blackpool).

There's a theme here.

Gestede pimping himself out with comments about playing in the Premiership, looks like he'll do anything to get away, Watford will be playing us in the Championship again next season Rudy, is it really the best move?

"To be fair" (I don't want to be) - aren't the comments in that link recycled ones from his comments after the game at the end of last season rather than new comments?

I still think he'll leave mind.

It's quite simple - where Rovers are concerned, the Raos' indecision is final.

I think in time, we will discover the Raos frequently changed their mind on some key decisions on an almost daily basis.

I would suggest that they still don't know whether to stick or twist with the manager.

Could they be waiting on an FFP decision from the football league ? Last years finances saw a large amount of debt taken early - perhaps this years finances leave us closer to league rules and there is some on going horse trading with the league regarding our position when Gestede and Rhodes eventually leave. Don't know - but just pointing out that things could be going on behind the scenes that would explain the delays (these could also include split with the Rao family regarding GB - or even ongoing funding)

Isn't it excepted practice with the dreaded Rao's that they ALL have to be in unanimous agreement regarding any businesses decisions?.....

Christ almighty!..I have a minds picture of the three (not so) wise Monkeys as regards the business running of BRFC.

If no other Prem team is serious about him, then yes.

Maybe the delay tactic is to give a bit of time to see if any genuine big bids do come in for players. Then they can deal with it all at once and decide which direction they are going ? If they've met their Zurich based advisors (business partners) they may have been told to hang fire...
