The fact he was all but saying come and get them in the press near the end of the transfer window before doing an almost 360 on it when the owners refused bids might support this theory. As does him keeping them out of one of our toughest fixtures of the season away at Derby, quite pathetic really but the nod for that must have come from Shaw you would think. Don't know about GB but if Shaw sets up deals he'll prob get a %.

And Bowyer was plugging them all over the national press last week in the build up to the Liverpool game.

I reckon Bowyer and Shaw would love to sell Rhodes and Gestede, even though they know, we would be nowhere near getting free from the embargo.

But boy would it give them plenty more excuses for our their mediocrity.

And perhaps a bit of sales commission too, who knows ?

The post from J*B below explains Shaw's role a lot better

This is going to go on all summer. Mercer will continue to suggest its either all illegal or doom is incoming, whether that be regarding the finances or players being sold.

For the record, this is how it works:

Club X contacts Rovers asking availability of Player Y.

Shelfy, acting on behalf of Rovers, negotiates the best deal possible from Club X for Player Y.

Club X reaches its maximum offer, which Shelfy thanks them for and says Rovers will get back to them.

Club X leaks to the local media that they are interested in Player Y and there is a deal in place.

Rovers don't publicly go out and say there isn't a deal in place, because there is. All of the paperwork has been negotiated.

But heres the big one -

Venkys. Venkys have history for rejected phenomenal fees for players that they value. It is there culture to keep things throughout any circumstances that they like, because selling is a sign of failure, weakness and 'losing'.

Before Player Y leaves Rovers and signs for Club X, Shelfy presents the deal to Venkys. Whether he is suggesting the deal should go ahead, or shouldn't go ahead, doesn't matter. He is presenting the best deal possible to the owners. That is, essentially, his job, for anyone that doesn't know what he does. He is there to negotiate. This isn't Shelfy 'going rogue', thats why he's there. Thats why they pay him. So they don't have to deal with talking to people.

In this case, it seems like like in summer with Hull, when there was a deal agreed with Hull & JR was willing to talk to Hull, Venky's have said 'no deal'.

The entire process is surreal, it essentially invites speculation and stress on to the club and the clubs players. But thats how it is ran.

I reckon Bowyer and Shaw would love to sell Rhodes and Gestede, even though they know, we would be nowhere near getting free from the embargo.

But boy would it give them plenty more excuses for our their mediocrity.

And perhaps a bit of sales commission too, who knows ?

Chaddy, I think WYR is saying the longer we have JR & RG the more pressure he's under to get us up. If he can get rid of them, blame the owners and wallow in another couple of fruitless years in his utopia, then he'll be a happy man.

Can see the scouse ran agency rubbing there hands in glee at the forthcoming transfer window...

Exactly 2 goalscorers he can't utilise for a promotion push any other side with the goals these 2 bring would be going up.. End of argument GB has failed

Can you see Boro coming in for Rhodes this summer?

but when has they been any paper talk recently linking either to current PL clubs?

Boro wanted Rhodes with an option to buy for £12m if they went up. It was in their local paper. I've posted 2 recent links to media stories linking RHodes and Gestede with Prem clubs (page 44 of this thread).

I am very aware of the Boro link. but my point was not from a current PL club.

I am very impressed with Boro defensively and that they have kept 20 clean sheets this season

thanks for the links.

Newcastle do need a goalscorer massively. I think Newcastle will spend big this summer(around 40 million plus) to improve their squad. some of their signings from the past summer haven't been good like Riviere and Ferreyra(on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk). Plus I expect Steve McClaren to be head coach there next season if Derby don't go up.

A lot of it with Boro particularly in the defence is the work rate of them from front to back. Obviously some decent players as well but everytime I've seen them play, good or bad their workrate is amazing. Similar can be said of most of the sides near the top in this division this season. At times it seems 40% craft and 60% graft.

I thought our performance at home to Fulham was excellent and along those lines but we only do it once in a while like that. That ethic has to run through the club though and it's got to be in the mindset of those delivering it.

Anyone even thinking Rovers will still have JR and RG in the line up net season is as daft as Abbey having a Venkys love in !

Not a chance in hell will we see them play in a Rovers shirt after the Ipswich game.

We will lose King, Dunn, Marshall, Cairney and Conway. I doubt Taylor will stay unless he gets a new deal. It would not surprise me if clubs came in for Olsson on his displays this season. We lose Baptiste back to Bolton and there is a massive HOLE in this squad.

Its going to be a summer pain at Ewood.

I can see us losing all 3 strikers, it's who we can get in to replace them on a free. Olsson and Baptiste would be the biggest losses out of the rest you mention because they've both been consistently good all season...Conway Marshall and Cairney definitely haven't.

According to transfermarkt, these are all the players we will potentially lose at the end of the season:

Baptiste, Spearing, Taylor (loan returns)
King, Kilgallon, Olsson, Robinson, Dunn, Songo'o, Lenihan, Raya
Of them all, I'd keep Olsson, Raya and one of Baptiste/Kilgallon. Not sure we need both of them, to be honest. At a push, I'd keep Baptiste, if can we actually sign him. Hanley, Duffy, Baps and a PL defender on-loan?
Haven't seen enough of Lenihan to comment.
Obviously I'd keep King if I thought Bowyer would play him. Think he'll be off.
As for the rest... no great loss.

Baptiste and Killgallon have been our best pairing by far we could do with keeping both.

Killgallon will sign for sure but Baptiste is unlikely unless bolton release him.

King won't sign I don't think

So not 'any other side' then?

Are you for real? Read what I posted.. Yes I doubt any championship side wouldn't swap their own resources for those GB has had...

Anyway off down to Ewood for a few pre match pints
