JHRover Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 People want Joe Garner here simply because he is a Blackburn lad. At 27 he's never scored goals above League One level. Its a similar mentality to advocating Keith Hill or Gareth Ainsworth as our next manager. None have ever done the business in the Championship or above yet are seemingly the answer to our problems because they have a connection to Blackburn.
Gav Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Joe garner ? Great open goal header missed on Sunday pmsl Terrible miss that one Abbey, not sure what he was trying to do.

Not necessarily, I just like the idea of family playing for Rovers.
Bucksrover Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I wonder if Jordan Preston or any of the other young strikers will be ready to step up next season?! At varying times I have heard good things about Preston, Rittenberg and Mahoney, but don't know if they are the finished article yet.
Rover_Shaun Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Every time I see Nobbers on TV they always refer to "Joe Garner the lifelong Nobend Fan"
thenodrog Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Terrible miss that one Abbey, not sure what he was trying to do. Was it as easy as this one? Happens to em all.
J*B Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 To be fair, the defender clearly nicks that on to the bar there.
FGS5635 Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 http://www.the42.ie/james-juve-real-missed-header-block-2086447-May2015/ Defender does get a touch
J*B Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 ? One of us needs to go to specsavers. http://www.the42.ie/james-juve-real-missed-header-block-2086447-May2015/ Defender does get a touch Looks like it isn't me, old timer.

tomphil Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Fact is with Joe Garner he's struggled somewhat whenever he's played at Championship level. Is that likely to change all of a sudden ? Maybe he's at his peak now and could cope better but for me he seems a nailed on league one striker. He does seem to put it about a bit and have a good workrate so maybe he could link with Rhodes but I wouldn't want Shaw handing over a stupid fee to his beloved Knobbers for the guy which is what would surely happen.
blueboy3333 Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 Not necessarily, I just like the idea of family playing for Rovers. are you related to Joe Garner or have i misread the above?
thenodrog Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Looks like it isn't me, old timer. If you saw that in real time I take my hat off to you. Bet if it went over the top he wouldn't have got a corner. Anyway serves the soft git right for closing his eyes.

At varying times I have heard good things about Preston, Rittenberg and Mahoney, but don't know if they are the finished article yet. Preston got 3 goals in 6 games on loan at Ayr Utd in Scottish league 1 (the old Scottish third division) this season. He's nearly 20 so it must be getting to the stage where they think about releasing him if he's not good enough. I've never seen him play but i'm sure someone on here has and will give you a better idea. As for the other two haven't got a clue. It seems to be club policy to send them out on loan so next season could be their turn.

Jordan Rhodes had never scored goals at Championship level until he signed for us. I think Garner would be good replacement for Rhodes if he left I would like Danny Graham or Chris Wood to replace Gestede if he left.
JHRover Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Jordan Rhodes was 22 when he signed for us and had scored 20+ for 3 seasons running in League One. He had started scoring in the Championship for Huddersfield when we went in for him. He had proven in 3 years at Huddersfield that he would score goals and it was a safe bet he would carry on doing so as he got older. Garner however apart from the last 12-18 months at Preston has never scored goals with any regularity. I'm not saying he would be a bad addition, I could easily be proven wrong, I just think too many people immediately look at his recent form, combine it with him being a Blackburn lad and think that immediately makes him a hero in the making. If Rhodes or Gestede were to leave we should be looking at people who have scored goals at this level, rather than taking a huge gamble on someone who at the age of 27 has never done it above League One. I do wonder how people are expecting us to get promoted if the only criteria is a connection to Blackburn and success in League One/Two. Something that Garner, Hill and Ainsworth all have in common, yet interestingly no other Championship clubs have gone in for any of them.
JAL Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Brown: 4 assists but yet to score. Evans: 1 goal, 0 assists all season. Williamson: 0 goals, 1 assist all season. Spearing: 1 goal, 0 assists. Lowe: 0 goals, 0 assists. When your under tight financial restraints I'd be saying to Gary Bowyer you can keep only one of the above and don't tell me its the striker.

Joe Garners namesake the legendary Simon, was almost let go, before he had scored for Rovers. I can't remember who we were planning selling him to now, but someone will remember. Garner himself turned the move down, stating that he wanted to fight for his place and the rest is history. I'm not suggesting for one minute that Joe will be another Simon, but he is one that we let go and he has certainly done very well in league 1 this season.

Howard Kendall wanted him to go to Halifax before restoring him to the team to partner Andy Crawford.
Athlete Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Indeed you are right blueboy. Howard Kendall wanted him to go to Halifax before restoring him to the team to partner Andy Crawford. Correct on that one it would of been similar to Roy Keane letting Jordan Rhodes go from Ipswich ( even though I do believe Roy's hands were tied a bit monetry ) it was one massive mistake
AJW Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 It was Halifax , i read it in his book .... Howard Kendall was furious by all accounts
Rover_Shaun Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Joe Garner. Born in Blackburn. Always referred to as a lifelong Nobber. Is that right though?
