Don Said Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Rovers interested in Ward but Forest are leading the race http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3086392/Nottingham-Forest-close-free-agent-Jamie-Ward-release-Derby.html Looks like Forest now by this account. http://www.nottinghampost.com/Nottingham-Forest-advanced-talks-Derby-forward/story-26529816-detail/story.html Says a lot about Rovers at the moment IF he really was a target for us, with Forest persuading him (they have the same restrictions as us).

Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted May 19, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted May 19, 2015 Forest are a bigger club than Rovers to be fair, plus, he wouldn't have to move house.....
cesus Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I was reading a conversation Nicko was having on Twitter and he was stating Ward would be getting a 4 year contract at Forest to get around FFP. Obviously attempting to give 4yrs @ the permitted £10k rather than 2yrs @ £20k. If true (always a disclaimer when talking about Nicko I know) that sounds a dangerous game!
Exiled in Toronto Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Kingy. Embarrassing. I had no idea till I listened to the Five Live Champions prog that our then captain was referred to as "Slippery" by the manager
Gav Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 But most likely to be at the breezeblock.. As for Spearing he was a nothing signing Spearing had a cracking debut then simply lost interest, or that's the way it looked to me.
Don Said Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Spearing had a cracking debut then simply lost interest, or that's the way it looked to me. Got a mate who's a Bolton fan, before Spearing kicked a ball for us he told me he'd have a couple of good games and then become invisible, did it identically for them in his loan spell and after he'd signed permanently apparently.
Athlete Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Spearing had a cracking debut then simply lost interest, or that's the way it looked to me. Bolton fans said when he came that would be the case .....They couldnt wait to get shut of him
Backroom Tom Posted May 19, 2015 Backroom Posted May 19, 2015 After his first game I tweeted he played brilliantly, a few random bolton fans replied saying exactly the same, seems it's not a coincidence.
chaddyrovers Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I hope that Spearing doesn't re-sign and that we sign Austin instead.
JayPeeBee40 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 we really are shopping at aldi/lidl signings wise arent we..?
Oldgregg86 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Nowt wrong with Aldi if you look in the right places Love to see ward come but can't see it happening. Austin is a great shout
chaddyrovers Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Rudophl Austin. Defensive midfielder..just released by Leeds last week
Stuart Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Don't we have enough defensive midfielders? We need to replace two attacking ones before adding to our collection!
tomphil Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Spearing = no Tunni back = yeah Something different needed. If we start next season with the same old deep lying defensive midfielders playing the same old style my gaskets will blow very quickly !
frosty Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Spearing = no Tunni back = yeah Something different needed. If we start next season with the same old deep lying defensive midfielders playing the same old style my gaskets will blow very quickly ! Spot on! The only Rovers centre midfielder who attempted to burst and drive forward this season was Tunnicliffe, his goal against Watford the perfect example. Would Evans, Williamson, Spearing or Lowe have been on the end of that? Not a chance!

Would Evans, Williamson, Spearing or Lowe have been on the end of that? Not a chance! Did you see Spearing's goal at Leeds? Can't say I'm a fan of his at all, but not very dissimilar to Tunnicliffe's.
ABBEY Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Rudophl Austin. Defensive midfielder..just released by Leeds last week ah gotchya I thought you meant the dirty dingle one.
Don Said Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Austin would have a lot of making up to do with Ben Marshall.. Cheers linesman.
roverstdt Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Some good free signings we should be all over. Like the likes of Jamie Ward, and Rudi Austin. I don't think we have to necessarily spend to strengthen the team. Wouldn't be disappointed to see Hanley go if it meant we got that West Ham guy back on Loan, and Baptiste.
G Somerset Rover Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I don't think anyone would be disappointed to see Hanley go! Whether there is a buyer is another question. I know Big Sam and Hughes were fans, but even they surely would have been put off by his 'performances' last season.

I don't think we have to necessarily spend to strengthen the team. Wouldn't be disappointed to see Hanley go if it meant we got that West Ham guy back on Loan, and Baptiste. Exactly. There is some smart trading that may be able to be done without losing our better players to fund it. The likes of Hanley and Evans are tradeable imo in order to free up places and a couple of quid for some freshening up in key areas. It'll all be a case of as you were though.
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I hope that Spearing doesn't re-sign and that we sign Austin instead. We couldn't afford him - he was £6m in the 80's - with inflation will be well out of our reach
