Lowe passes sideways sure. But he grafts and doesn't blame others when the fan is covered in poo. But as I said (or I was trying to say) the team need to defen as a unit. We cannot let the defenders defend and the rest of the team wait for the next attacking phase.

You rarely see players mucking in and defending unless they are in the back four and that is what needs to change!

We need to close down our opponents all over the field and stop letting them have time and space to make things happen.

When we have play high tempo games we have looked our best... Putting pressure on the opposition all over the pitch will help.

Some one in the middle of the park who can marshall the rest of the team and alleviate some of the pressure on the back four is what we need!

the fact that Lowe is now looked at some sort of savior at CM says everything about where the club is at....won't argue with the fact that he can cover ground, track back and is somewhat athletic....but the word enforcer and Lowe should never be in the same sentence....if there's a 50/50 ball to be won, Lowe will find a way to "track back" or cover passing lanes instead of putting a proper tackle in. until he learns how to tackle or has the will to do so, he's no better than Evans or Williamson...I would rather see one of the youth given a chance there over what has been tried and failed before

Exactly right. Although we could preferably do with some more steel in the middle of the park, I'm not sure how much of it comes down to our personnel as opposed to our tactics. Arguably a more pragmatic manager would've turned defeats into draws and stalemates into victories.

Relatively speaking, we didn't concede THAT many goals last season. Our problem was seeing out games and getting goals from anyone other than Rudy or Rhodes.

I see as with many players Lowe appears to have acquired mythical qualities in the minds of some posters during a prolonged absence through injury.

The sad fact is that despite possessing great athleticism, closing the ball and the opposition down or putting a tackle in appear to be entirely alien concepts to him. Neither does he possess any creativity.

I said two seasons ago that Lowe is not good enough to play in midfield for a team with genuine promotion aspirations, and if GB is still here and insists on making him the fulcrum of the midfield again next season, I'm sure we'll see similar results, i.e the contenders for an automatic promotion place vanishing twenty plus points into the distance.

? Have you ever played football onlyoneduff?

Williamson (and Lowe) can both be pretty ferocious in the tackle. As far as 50:50 balls, it's fine if you win them but if you go in gung ho and don't you either get booked and give a free kick away in a shooting position or you are left sat on your arse and the defence faced with an onrushing attack and outnumbered.

Williamson I'll grant you but which Lowe are you taking about? Arthur?

I have NEVER EVER seen Jason make a "ferocious tackle" and can safely say I never will. A ferocious close down would be a start. Were you nobbled at that exclusive Rovers do, Gordon? Your tune has changed so much recently it's like a bad R'n'B record!

IMO Lowe is one of those players that helps a team tick along - and gives other players the opportunity to shine. However - as you rightly say - if the other players in that midfield don't provide the creativity - then Lowe isn't (though some of his crossed field passing has improved). He is at his best - playing it simple - passing and moving to create more space for the creative players like Cairney,

Reading your posts over the past twelve months you're beginning to sound like someone whose involved with all these poor players at Rovers Thenodrog.

I had my suspicions awhile back when he did his about-turn.

Either he's being his contrarian self or he's on the pay roll.

I'm an Evertonian and Gord is now an agent/coach/some other figment of your imagination.

OK...... so disappear off this site please good man.

great response, you're quite the wit.

You need to do a lot more than pop on here every few months and accuse people of being agents/scousers or whatever if you want to dictate who should frequent this site.

However, and i say this with your best interests at heart, i do think your raging paranoia might be better served on ClaretsMad. They hate Rovers there too, you'll feel quite at home. Ta-ra chuck.

We really missed Lowe this season. He covers loads of ground with real energy. Not technically great but much better than the pedestrian Williamson. Lowe made some really good challenges getting back, and we have Conway, Cairney and Marshall with great distribution. Williamson throws himself into challenges because he can't keep up with people.

Would love to get tunnicliffe back - a midfield with Lowe, tunnicliffe and Conway would make us a lot more mobile. That's assuming bowyer doesn't stick with two midfielders anchored yards in front of our defence to protect hapless Hanley.

Gordon a club plant!

So that explains it, golf to number one fan in 2 easy steps.

I don't buy it.......

Well if Gordon is the club plant I'm Seve Ballesteros...

Contrarian definitely not contraband

I look forward to you buying some more for the club Jal.

We virtually have to make do with what we have remember. A witch hunt and booing campaign never boosted confidence and helped anyone improve imo. Yet we continue to do it. In fact some delight in it. I've seen whispering campaigns turn into baying wolf packs with lots of Rovers players and it can only do damage. Tell me Jal... were you one of those who booed Jason Wilcox? How about Tim Sherwood? Lee Carsley? How about Lucas Neill and Big sam? Bloody wish we had them all here now!

No grasping the reality of a given situation has always been one of my stronger points. Compare to those perennial losers who stick their head in the sand and hope everything will be good next time they take it out. Times have changed Stuart. We are back to where we were when Jack rolled up in case you hadn't noticed. I suggest you amend your expectations to reflect this.

btw were you not at the do?

In fairness tomphil you will miss an awful lot by sitting where you do. Low down behind the goals might generate atmosphere but it doesn't let you see the entire proceedings during a match.

Yep you definitely have a point on the view bit but it doesn't stop us seeing bad passes although that's far from unique to Lowe-y. Although we have swapped to the JW a couple of times for family but it's not hard to see gaping holes in Rovers midfield wherever you sit.

A few away games see visitors seated at the side or in the corner and of course when the team is attacking the other way you can clearly see the formation and what's going on with your own players. Remember how deep we play, not often we see blue & white shirts other than the strikers or wingers disappearing into the distance over the halfway line whoevers in the team

Hey up? Is this the same Amarillo / gobby Topman that trapped up during the walker years and has never even seen the inside of Ewood Park?

More a triffid than a daisy I hope.

Are you a venkysman and sometime football agent like me too Bucks? ^_^ No doubt some numpty will be along to label you as such soon. Might even be the bottle fed baby from Hampshire who needs a satnav to even find Blackburn let alone Ewood Park. :tu:
