And you believe the evening gazette? As a long time reader of it, they are not generally any more accurate than the LT. They may be on this occasion but I wouldn't put my house on it. Incidentally they were the first paper to do the pink paper on sats immediately post match

M'boro very confident according to local paper but deal well short of £12m.

Apparently, Rovers have let it be known that Rhodes may be available.

Seemingly, Rhodes wants to go there as well:

Also, Nicko proves to be spot on.[/quote

Edit*

Just seen a sun article written by Nixon about Rhodes to Boro.

It's a nice bit of phycology putting these stories about at this time of year for some clubs. Makes them look good in the eyes of fans by seemingly chasing a top player for big money, gives the fans a shot in the arm. Also sends out a message to it's players and maybe gives some a 'look over your shoulder' kick up the ass.

12 million! Bite their hands off!

12 million plus 40k a week saved is a huge amount of money to save. May mean that we get out of this embargo too.

Yes let's do it .. Jolly good ... And replace with inferior..

Will be interesting how many next season kick off about lack of scoring options .

May as well sell marshy and conwayiy .. Heck get rid of everyone .. No embargo

Alan Nixon does not hate Rovers at all.

If you dont like me posting about Rovers transfer news in the media then dont read it.

.

No problem with transfer news. It's the Nixon crap you post that is irritating.

never hated Robbo at all. Just gave an opinion on player that some of you didn't like

You campaigned against him all summer. That was real poison and unfortunately convinced others who would otherwise never have questioned him. You will not be forgiven for that.

Local media in Middlesborough reporting Rhodes story now, very worrying: http://t.co/oHeRxEALR6

Rhodes reps are still refusing to offer comment.

this is from Kamy on twitter

Very worrying? Nah not really. Far better players than him have come and gone and I am sure you will sleep tonight whatever happens.

Who's worried. Fortunately prolific strikers grow on trees and we can freely pick another couple off for next season.

It was worrying when Alan Shearer left. £12 mill for Rhodes and the wage off the books is the least of my worries and will please Chaddy no end.

Its 'snatch their hand off' time again.

Where would JR come in the all-time list of Centre Forwards?

Above Roque,Fat Boy and Bellamy?

Above Beattie, Simon G and Fred P?

Above his replacement(prob Joe Garner). Probably NO to all these answers.

Compared to Hanley,Lowe,Wilcox,Byrom etc He has had an easy time from the crowd.

Not sure about that Aggy. But we could always go and wax another 8 million on one man while the squad suffers. Replace prolific with benched.

Unfortunately, likelihood now is that we'll have to sell him. We can't reinvest that money so further proof that it's been a total waste of a fortune.

Prolific was how he was described in the above link re the Middlesbrough link.

Wax another 8M, have you forgot about the embargo?

Bear in mind Rudy and Kingy are seemingly off this summer. Now where' that striker tree.

Possibly, possibly not. Whatever, the plain fact remains that currently JR is now no longer an automatic starter at BRFC and is not even within sniffing distance of the Scotland squad. He's obviously a fading force so shouldn't we be doing our darndest to get some money back in and save wages of 2 million pa to boot? In our perilous position that surely has to make sense.

Just as an aside what is your alternative Abbey? Keep him as a striker who spends as much time on the bench as playing and quite probably ticking the rest of the squad off with his ridiculous wages and then simply wave a fond bye bye to him in a couple of years (and with another 4m in his personal piggy bank) for sweet FA? It can't be done on either a football footing or a business footing either.

Fact is he'd have gone to Hull 6 months ago if it wesn't as we are led to believe, for personal intervention by 'T'owd hag' giving him the last chance to score enough goals to get us promoted. Quite simply and for whatever reasons that can now be seen in hindsight as another bad decision in her tenure as JR has not rewarded her faith in him.

Well, we'll find out when the team news comes out tonight. Personally, think he'll start and score. Also think he'll stay at Rovers for the rest of the season. It's the Hull situation all over again, someone at the club is clearly negotiating on our behalf hence newspaper reports, but I suspect the owners will pull the plug on the deal again.

Please me? When did I ever say that? I didn't

You just can't resist but give me insults all the time. Its boring Al. Why don't you try moving on and leave me alone.

Don't want to sell Rhodes but the Rovers finances are a mess and we need this embargo lift in the summer.

How can he with his ass on a bench? He's good but not that ing good.

still think its pointless ... what if Boro don't get promoted ? they'll send him back to us , if they really want him , then if and when they do get promoted they can then come in with £12m , until then feck off

there is not a cat in hells chance that selling rhodes will lift the embargo...if we sold ten rhodes we would struggle, with the amount of debt that we are piling on the club at a weekly rate

the issue here is that once we sell rhodes (and most likely gestede & king) we WILL be in a relegation fight next season

who are we going to rely on for goals?? Chris Brown???

We will not need to sell King as he will walk away for nothing. I also don't think selling him will suddenly lift FFP and there are others at the club that should be off before Rhodes.

I can't believe people are happy to sell Rhodes. If he makes it to 20 goals this season thats 6 seasons in a row hes hit that mark.

Nope I've not forgotten but I wasn't being 100% serious as you know.

Rhodes is dynamite baby lining 10 yards from goal, but often totally innefective in other positions on the pitch. I have rarely seen any player so accomplished at scoring, to be so poor with general footballing basics. I have also rarely seen any striker be so easily marked out of games and contribute so little if not scoring.

I've argued for nearly two seasons that the team would be better off with someone stronger and quicker upfront and nothing of late has changed that view. Watching King stretch defences recently moving us higher up the pitch to play our football was so refreshing and clearly demonstrated how defenders hate facing their own goal. So easy to mark someone sat up behind them all game, secure in the knowledge they lack the skill, speed, or strength to turn, pass or out muscle you.

Rhodes for me has been an expensive waste of money and poor signing in the context of our overall requirements. No tree needed, others have obtained 20 goal a season strikers for less than a million in recent years at this level. Burnley and Palace for example.

Frankly, it is a complete embarassment for the club to have to loan out Rhodes to another club in this league, whilst still paying 75% of his salary.

No wonder there are clubs queuing up to take him.

£10k a week saving for 10 weeks, that's £100k saved. Probably a fraction of what Orr's pay-off was.

If that is how tight the finances are then that is the most worrying thing.

Why bother bringing Henry in on loan if the season is written off anyway. Save the money and play a youth player.
