Nice.

"The towering centre-back has already made several appearances for Rovers Under-18s over recent weeks and is delighted to be joining a club that offers a clear pathway for promising young players to progress to the senior squad. "

Not given youth a chance so far this season, one might argue.

Or just perhaps, the youth wasn't good enough to be given the chance.

U18s drew 2-2 away at Stoke today,

Mullarkey-Matthews featuring for the side for the first time this season.  He is out on loan at Bamber Bridge until January but hasn't featured for them since early September.  Not sure if he has been injured or out of favour

Third year scholar Brad Taylor also came off the bench late to feature for the first time since February.  I am assuming he has been injured

Anybody else going to the Rochdale v Rovers U-21’s tomorrow ? It’s pay on the gate according to the Dale site. I’m going with my grandson. It’s £2 for adults and £1 for kids and dinosaurs like me.

I am going with my son. Can we "take" the Sandy Lane End? I remember going in the early 70's and all the Rovers fans walked across the pitch at half time to change ends.

I have booked my tickets online but had to sign up with Rochdale to do that. There is only one stand open according to the seating plan.

Used to losing.

Dead right, they played like they didn’t want to be there. We were out enthused all over the pitch. Too many gift goals, too slow to get the ball forward. I was really disappointed. One way traffic in the second half, 4-1 flattered us.  Going off that showing not one of those players can be knocking on the managers door and be asking why they aren’t under consideration for a first team slot. If I were some of them I’d be looking around for a real job. Pro football isn’t for them.I don’t know who’s coaching them but the Dale had a 2 on 1 down our left side all the second half and nobody did a thing to rectify it. .

It was the worst performance I have seen for a long time from the under 21's. Perhaps only Litherland can come out with any credit as we continually gave the ball away, made wrong decisions and some of them looked almost disinterested. Having seen Barrett a good few times I honestly don't know what anybody saw when he was on trial to give him a deal until 2025 with the option of another year. When we equalised just before half time I thought we would come out really strong in the second half but it was the opposite. Rochdale were first to the ball, won tackles and headers and fully deserved their win. And whilst we had a young team it appeared that Rochdale did too with one exception. Another worrying aspect was that probably our brightest prospect, Igor Tyjon looked knackered. Having been away with England and playing three games in quick succession Rovers have to be careful with him and manage his game time.

With all fairness most of them are kids and not going to near our first team plus also factoring in we loaned alot of under 21's squad to play football at football league level

10/10 Exactly what I thought. It was noticeable that their first team manager was right on the touchline encouraging his team throughout the game. I was on that side of the stand but I never noticed our guys doing much.

You’re dead right about Barrett, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him make a save that was out of the extremely basic.

Regarding Tyjon, he got absolutely no service so no wonder he got disheartened.

Our 3 were over run by their 4 in midfield and we never did anything much to alter that.

It didn’t matter but I was right in line for their 4th goal. Their guy was yards off side. Not feet, yards.

It just looked like we were just fulfilling a promise for a pre-season friendly. One team wanted it, and one didn’t.
