I think there's a chance Durrant gets another year. Looked really interesting since he moved into a central role. Made some very Joe Rothwell-esque runs in games and been much better 2nd half of this season.

That's interesting that he's had a change of role. Sam Durrant looked decent on the very few occasion that I saw him play as a winger. Quick feet and tricky but also defensively disciplined. However, he seemed to be in and out of the team, which made me think he wasn't highly rated.

Sam Burns new one year deal announced by the club. If the club are planning ahead that should mean he'll get a chance with the firsts in pre-season, as he's not a youth player any more in age.

He hasn't appeared in relegated Scunthorpe's matches lately, when I looked, so he's either been dropped or injured. He scored a brace in a game but that was it - so he has a lot to work on when he comes back.

Burns is ideal in a high-pressing team, he is fast and aggressive. A replacement for Khadra, he hasn't got as many tricks as Khadra, but he knows where the goal is.

Hopefully Sam Burns will be around the 1st team picture next season.

No Brown or Philips in the under 23's squad so expect them to be involved in next week game at Birmingham

Phillips hasn't featured in any squad for months.

Rovers win 4-3 Vale scores all 4. Not a great team performance, but showed good spirit to come from behind twice. Chelsea could  have had the game wrapped up with the headed chances they missed. We looked poor in the air at the back, something that needs working on.

How Good was Jack Vale today? can you describe each goal he scores and do you think he should feature in the Birmingham game and in next season 1st team squad?

He had a better second half than the first, although he did score two well finished goals in the first half.  Both second half goals coming from our wide left players taking on the right-back in dangerous areas. I don't see who Vale would replace except Gally. If I was going to start any youngsters, it would be in place of departing loanees/contract rebels. Adam Wharton for Rothwell, Barnes for Van Hecke, Brown for Nyambe.

I would play Vale from the bench, I would start Dack and Brown. Maybe Adam Wharton and Ashley Philips on the bench

He came on as a late sub in the last two U23s games.

He's had at least half a season ruined by two injuries picked up at away at England U17. Think he's just being eased in after being injured for a long time. He'll be a starter for sure when fit.

what did you think of Jack Vale's performance and would he be in your 18 playing squad at Birmingham?

I didn't see it, but I'm sure he'd be in mine. You have to reward form like his. The manager has implied he won't play the loanees and will look to the future for the club, so there should be room in the squad for some U23s. Vale has to be one.

Very much agree. Think he has a chance to be around the squad next year. Have been mentioning him for the last 2-3 years, but it's taken some time with him. Seems to have come back from the loan "a man", and is now mention as a bit of a leader in the dressing room of the U23.

He's a well-rounded striker who can do a bit of everything. Pacy, good close control, intelligent link-up play and half decent size. Not been prolific before, but really kicked on in that appartment. Hard to say if he can make an impact at Championship level, but deserves the chance.

That’s all that let Gally down, he wasn’t quick enough to play up front at top level. He had everything else though.

Absolutly right about Gally. There is a decent article about him. Sheron describes him: "“He’s a really intelligent footballer who protects the ball and understands how to play.” He’s added a lot of goals to his game and picks his moment to get in and around the box. He’s a clinical finisher.”

The article also makes a comparison to Harry Kane in that regard.

I think, also, perhaps, he didn't quite have it together mentally when he was younger and, also, English football didn't accommodate the no.10 much. I recall reading comments from Plymouth Argyle fans, when he was on loan there as a young player for the back end of the season under Sturrock, I think, complaining that he didn't work hard and battle enough. If it was Sturrock, then the style would've been very direct football which wouldn't have suited him much, I can imagine.

You had a few Sheringham/Bergkamp types, in the English game, but if you weren't both a prolific goalscorer, technically gifted, slower players tended to be sidelined, literally, by being shunted out wide. Ruben Rochina's had a decent enough career, it seems, at the lower end of the Primera Liga, and I think, perhaps, continental football may have suited Gallagher, tactically - though of course, culturally, would've been a challenge.

That said, Gallagher didn't fade away like I thought he might. Had a very good run at PNE and even made it as a CM, I think. Unless I'm missing somebody, I think Gallagher may be the best "forward" produced by the club, as in came through the youth ranks, in recent history, followed by Joe Garner...? I recall he was tearing up the reserve league with consecutive hat-tricks and the like before getting his debut as a skinny 17/18 year old.

He had a good football brain even as a young player. He took up good positions and he was a bit Rhodes like in his finishing, he never panicked and he took his time in front of goal. Like Rhodes he wasn’t the quickest.

That honour would go to James Beattie, unless that isn't recent enough for you. 5 England caps less than 20 years ago, as well as proving himself in the Prem repeatedly. There might be an argument to be had over whether it was Gallagher or Derbyshire who had the better career though, for second spot, although Gally was certainly the more technically gifted. Joe Garner would be behind both, having never really done much above League One.

Personally I think for Vale to be in the team against Birmingham, he has to be either be a straight replacement for Gallagher, or we change our system and have two central strikers,  Vale and Gallagher, I would prefer the second option.
