JHRover Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 so whose fault is that Chris? Bowyer should have been aware that those players are available for loan, but lets face it, McClaren has a bigger pull than Bowyer. Bowyer is just fortunate that the players he brought in has at least been somewhat decent, which is his only saving grace right now Maybe Bowyer hasn't been fortunate, maybe when he has been entrusted with cash to spend he has done his homework and been successful with his acquisitions. McClaren is supposed to be some sort of managerial genius, the sort of 'real manager' that many on here yearn for, yet has spent money most Championship managers can only dream of and finished one position above Rovers. The likes of Bent and Ince would cost a fortune, even on loan. We would be even further off FFP compliance had we brought them in.

Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted May 21, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted May 21, 2015 Bowyer has failed as well in improving on last year's position, but let's put it in perspective, McLaren's own failure is gigantic in comparison!!

But he has alot more appeal for players to sign than Bowyer.
JHRover Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 not saying McClaren did well, he didnt. But he has alot more appeal for players to sign than Bowyer. He has a lot more money to throw at players to sign for Derby too. In the end it all comes down to money. I'm sure if Bowyer was able to offer the wages McClaren has had to play with we'd be looking at bigger profile players.
thenodrog Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 It bloody well should be after last season's collapse as well. Careful what you say K-Hod, but for a last gasp win at Plymouth we would have had a similar late collapse and Kenny would have been in the same boat plus he'd spent an absolute fortune by then. not saying McClaren did well, he didnt. But he has alot more appeal for players to sign than Bowyer. Had.
mhead Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I can tell you Derby fans are worse than shell-shocked at the moment. They were out of contention for promotion only in the last 2 hours of the Season. After the QPR robbery of the previous May, they have lost heart and confidence in MacClaren
mustard Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 So the new defence of Bowyer's failure to achieve play-offs is "well McClaren failed even worse" ?
JHRover Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 So the new defence of Bowyer's failure to achieve play-offs is "well McClaren failed even worse" ? Maybe not, but the interesting part is that for all McClaren's managerial skills and the top drawer quality he was able to bring in over the season he took Derby a mighty one place above Rovers. This despite Rovers being saddled with a 'clueless coach' who according to some is nowhere near McClarens level. I wonder whether Bowyer would have took us higher if he'd had Ince, Lingard, Bent etc. to call upon. My bet would be yes. Yet many wanted McClaren in at Rovers as he is a 'proper manager' who has done a 'fantastic job' at Derby.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted May 21, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted May 21, 2015 So the new defence of Bowyer's failure to achieve play-offs is "well McClaren failed even worse" ? No. Derby have gone backwards far worse than we have. Though both clubs have under-achieved.

Yes but he"d lost both of his strikers. No coincidence that that win at Plymouth saw Speedie's return.

I don't think Bowyer would have taken us higher with those players at his disposal. Imagine him having to rotate between Rhodes, Rudy, King, Brown AND Bent. I think all the required tinkering would be too much for him. Tbh, Lingard is a young, raw player who has a name for himself based on Football Manager (I should know, I signed him for Rovers). All because he's a United loanee doesn't mean he's top Championship class, so I've no idea why everyone is going on about him. I imagine most of the people talking about him on here have never seen him play. Ince is a great player at this level though, no doubt about it.
tomphil Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Without consulting their messageboards etc and going off what I saw of Derby at the end of the season I'd just say it was nerves got the better of them. The bigger the club, crowd and the way they'd been playing all season means a huge weight of expectation. Just a bottle job probably, they hit their bad run at the very worst moment.

thenodrog Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 So the new defence of Bowyer's failure to achieve play-offs is "well McClaren failed even worse" ? Maclaren, Pearce, McCarthy Freedman, Holloway, Lennon etc all similarly failed, despite being some peoples flavour of the month at some time or other in the season.
Stuart Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Just for once I'd really like a defence of Bowyer's management abilities to start with his qualities rather than "it could be worse".
chaddyrovers Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 so whose fault is that Chris? Bowyer should have been aware that those players are available for loan, but lets face it, McClaren has a bigger pull than Bowyer. Bowyer is just fortunate that the players he brought in has at least been somewhat decent, which is his only saving grace right now I think Bowyer did tried for Ince. (could be wrong tho so hands up if I am) So the new defence of Bowyer's failure to achieve play-offs is "well McClaren failed even worse" ? I don't think anyone has said that. I didn't bring Bowyer into the conservation until Abbey did. Maclaren, Pearce, McCarthy Freedman, Holloway, Lennon etc all similarly failed, despite being some peoples flavour of the month at some time or other in the season. very true there. Pearce, Freedman and Holloway were all sacked last season.
Amo Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Maclaren, Pearce, McCarthy Freedman, Holloway, Lennon etc all similarly failed, despite being some peoples flavour of the month at some time or other in the season. And by 'some people' you mean Mercerman?
chaddyrovers Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Look like McClaren has been sacked at Derby. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/derby-county/11622430/Derby-County-sack-Steve-McClaren-as-Real-Madrid-coach-Paul-Clement-waits-in-wings.html
roverandout Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 How did Lennon fail, he saved Bolton from relegation, McCarthy took Ipswich into the play offs on a shoestring, at least make your argument valid gordon
thenodrog Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 No need. As we keep being informed and as we've claimed since May 95 ...the final table doesn't lie.
ABBEY Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Look like McClaren has been sacked at Derby. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/derby-county/11622430/Derby-County-sack-Steve-McClaren-as-Real-Madrid-coach-Paul-Clement-waits-in-wings.html chaddy, you said we should only talk about the current england team on the cricket thread....so why are you posting about the derby news when its not related to the present rovers players on a rovers board...oh i get it ..do as i say not, not do as i do.

Isn't this the Championship thread????? I have posted a news story about a championship club. So I am keeping to the topic of the thread

It's scandalous.
