[Archived] Season tickets again!

I don't get it, could never do it, just not the same.

I'd rather watch a different sport than watch a different football team.

Just my opinion.

I've moved away but I'm excited at the prospect of travelling to Ewood and doing more away games.

Strangely enough I agree with you. If I didn't have family ties that would be my normal stance. I may well hate it but my son-in-law, nephews and nieces are all Bradford fans and that's my crazy reason for heading there.

Where will you take your own children?

I am of course assuming they are in your long term plans.

Daughter isn't interested in football. It's going to be grandchildren for me next and son-in-law will make sure they follow Bradford. Teach me to marry outside of my roots!

Just as an aside - pre Venkys there were kids with rovers shirts all round Leyland. I can't remember the last time I saw one here. They're disappearing fast.

I saw one a few months ago and he was quick to point out to his mum the blue and white halves he saw me sporting under a jumper in Tesco. He was as delighted as I was to see a fellow Rover.

I recently moved across the Pennines and despite a history of buying season-tickets (35 successive seasons including last season) I have purchased season tickets for me and my wife for Bradford City. I will make Ewood for the odd game but travel time and wanting to attend games with family (all Bradford fans) swayed me. I'm pretty sad about aspects of the decision but it's made now.

However two tickets cost me less than my Jack Walker stand ticket alone. Bradford are only charging £149 and hope to have sold 17,500 tickets by the start of the season. Bradford is a much bigger place but the team is made up of free transfers and loanees and in a lower league. But .... they have local owners who have an affinity for the club.

I'll never cease to be a Rovers fan but other things have conspired to move me elsewhere.

Would I have made the same decision if Rovers hadn't been so badly damaged over the last few seasons? Uncertain.

I remain hopeful but will be observing from a distance I'm afraid.

Sorry misread roversiders original post ignore.

Not been to Ewood for ages. I've just bought my first house, so that's where most of my money has gone over the last few years. As well as not even being in the country.

I want to come back to Ewood to at least see one game, no matter how bad things are. Once I've pad for rising damp treatment, got the shed renovated, bedroom ceiling replaced and god knows what else.

If the owners went and the corridors were scrubbed with bleach and the picture of ol' Ma Venky was taken down and I was allowed to deface it, I'd be more inclined to attend. But I've normally favoured away games as it costs a mint to come up these days. But then I'm not too keen on the away atmosphere these days.

Only just realized you're Bryan. Was wondering where you'd went. *faceplant*

Sorry Bryan I missed this earlier.

Houses, tell me about it, I hope it all goes well.

I'm sure we'll see more fans choosing Ewood over damp proof if we had a right good cull of the idiots running the asylum.

I share people's fears if Venkys left, but I'm convinced we can't progress until they do.

After just short of 30 years as a season ticket holder, I'm seriously considering not renewing. Main reasons being I have a young family that I want to spend my time with and I also get so annoyed seeing Rovers just play with minimal effort and so little bite and passion. I saw more tackling and pressing in the first 20mins of an under 21 game at Brockhall, than I did in about 5 games at Ewood - and I think that is inexcusable.

Although on matchdays I have a real laugh with my mates, it just felt like a really bad habit going to Ewood last year and the football was (way) secondary to simply having a laugh. It doesn't help because I've increasingly started to dislike Bowyer, to me he's the personification of bromide and has slowly started talking as much delusional @#/? as the lip, licking bald chap from a few years back. He also seems to have wangled a long-term job, regardless of failing to get us firing and failing to develop as a manager. He did his best job after Appleton but for me, since then he's failed to get even 60% out of most of the players. In my opinion, he is going to be at the root of an upcoming exodus, or major dissent in the ranks and we are going to be well and truly in the mire this season.

Because I'm so attached to the club, it seems a major decision and no doubt I'll renew at the last minute, go to a few games, witness the same old story, listen to the same old soundbites and regret it for 9 months. Without seeing that effort and passion on the pitch though, at that point I'll be absolutely done with it.

We have a small inbred moronic element who think its good to create trouble, think they are real hooligans and who are just boys playing at being a football hooligan wannabe

well cctv will sort them out,but every street in blackburn town centre has this cctv,my nephew and his girl were assulted and the police say they were in a blind spot.

Bloody lazy policing is that. If they could be bothered they could check other cctv. Their attackers haven't just been transported to the assault location. I hope your nephew and his girlfriend are ok.

No wonder the town centre is dying.

The middle of June, when we're 8 weeks removed from the end of the season and 6 weeks from the start of the next, is the time we all start wondering whether or not going to Rovers is worth it, or fun, or even cost effective.

Come August 8th when I wake up Saturday morning ahead of the Wolverhampton Wanderers game, I know that I'll be sucked right back in!

Yes I agree, don't know the details of the incident, but you can rest assured if it was classed as a major crime they'd be willing to piece the CCTY together.

Such attackers presumably hang around cctv blind spots - they should be made known to the general public, the muggers will know already!, so as to avoid after dark especially.

I'd also get intouch with the MP for the area and demand to know what he and the police are doing about this problem. I'm afraid it's those who shout loudest these days.

I can't believe what I'm reading. Convenient scapegoat? Plastics disappearing? You were one of the first to make noises that Venkys were no good - as early as when the first went onto the Ewood pitch, and one of the first to stop buying a ticket because of Venkys. You even protested - at least you say that you did. Now you are one those firmly on the side of those blaming the fans.

We are stuck with them, there is nothing convenient about it. Venkys are our life support machine and nothing more and having brought chaos are now intent on ignoring us to death. They've installed a manager who has taken away the final thing they could take: entertainment. It's like watching a game of cricket where the night watchman stays at the crease. Forever.

Why not? Our falling attendances is just history repeating itself. Anybody old enough has seen all this happen before.

No one can deny venkys screwed up big time, but imo they have become a convenient scapegoat for an awful lot of people seeking a good excuse to stop supporting BRFC. Take away hope from a list of reasons to support a small club and there isn't much left for the 'less committed' supporter is there?

The Blackburn public have at times not needed much of an excuse not to attend games, I can certainly subscribe to that theory Gordon. But I think this time you can’t just say that blaming Venkys has become a convenient scapegoat.

What has happened at the club is unprecedented, the lies, deceit and contempt the fans have been treat with is disgusting and its still going on.

We have rich owners that are incapable of making decisions for the good of the club. We have had a steady stream of shysters looking to do nothing more than increase their own bank accounts and as fans we’re expected to turn up week in week out to watch substandard football with little or no concern for improving things on or off the pitch.

If we’d been a restaurant we’d have been shut down years ago, people won’t go if the products cr@p, or in our case people won’t go in such big numbers if they’re having the wee wee taken out of them and I don’t blame them one bit.

Loyalty is one thing, having the @#/? taken out of you is another.

I was simply stating fact, if Venkys go the club will need our support and the Gav household won't be found wanting. We'll happily shell out £1500 even though we'll not see many home games, but I'd not even consider it whilst they're still at the helm.

As for plastics and glory hunters, I think far to many people don't appreciate just how healthy our support is given the right circumstances. The initiatives run by the club in 1990's ensured a whole generation of support has been captured, look at the age of the fans when we kick off in August, 20/30yrs mainly or 65/75 if you're Jack Walker upper!

The Liverpool game proved the point, we have the support, we just need new owners.

Disagree. Varying reports give our attendance as circa 42000 for the 1969 FA cup tie v Man City. Still didn't transmit to improved league attendances did it? Neither did taking 30000 to Wembley in '87, or packing out Ewood and leaving thousands outside to welcome home the team and the Prem trophy. Like it or not (an no diff to any other club I suppose) we have a good numbe of 'occasional' fans when the going is good who disappear as soon as their is a downturn in fortunes.

In 87 we'd had no success in decades, the support wasn't there, it was fabricated on the back on a Wembley trip and disappeared straight after.

Now we sit on the back of 25yrs of success, people born in the area have been born and brought up on Blackburn Rovers.

We have the support, it just needs something to support as the Liverpool gate proved.

Sad to hear. But not overly suprising to me at least. Genuine Rovers fans bored / bullied into total submission, considering all other options rather than renewing season tickets.

I have watched loads of other teams over the years. I clap politely when they score, I shrug helplesslely when they conceed. It is nothing like watching your own club.

17,500 season tickets sold? Good effort by Bradford and their fans, who along with us have been renowned for cheap tickets for years.

Another sad, but somewhat predictable post, much of it in line with my own thoughts. Where and when are fans meant to draw the line? Or are we simply supposed to keep turning up sheep like as the Superfans on here remind us, cheering Rar, Rar, Rar to the same dumbed down, boring product offering magically served up and marketed as a Push for Promotion.

As an aside, does anyone know what is the record number of season tickets we have ever sold? Preesume when we were in the PL. Worst season ticket sales?
