[Archived] Rovers v Brentford: 17th March

Recommended Posts

As one of the fortunate 1500 or so Rovers fans to witness this game, GB didn't cover himself in glory, as we were given a footballing lesson by Brentford.

That day we lined up Steele, Baptiste, Hanley, Duffy, Olsson, Conway, Williamson, Tunnicliffe, Marshall, Evans, Gestede. Lucky to be 1-1 at H-T, they battered us second half.

We are now on something of a "run", and have momentum. Eight points separate the two teams. We are at home and a win will improbably give us a shot at sixth place.

Injuries may well dictate the team on Tuesday, but GB seems to be shuffling the deck a bit better now that captain marvel's absence has meant he has to.

Looking forward to this one (wow, hasn't been the case for a while). This is one he needs to give it a reet good go!

Its as huge a game as we will have all season.

3 points takes us within 5 of an unlikely 6th spot and if the other results from the teams above us go for us it really could be a very good week all round.

I don't think it will be easy, we have injuries galore but we should just have enough momentum to win this game 1-0

Biggest league game of the season so far without a doubt - must win

Think we will just win it if Hanley doesn't play but expect a Judge goal

A must-win if there ever was one. Our extremely slim hopes of the playoffs rest on this match. With pressure suddenly building as the playoffs once again come into sight I can see the team faltering again. We have a track record of getting close to the top six only to stumble at the last moment and fall away.

Rhodes must start. No idea what Hanley's status is but with the injuries we seem to be picking up unfortunately we may have no choice but to play him if he's available. Unless absolutely necessary he should not be in the starting eleven, though.

There's a long way to go and we're still relying on all the teams above us falling away as we move upwards, but if we do manage to win this one it will revive the faintest of hopes in me that this season is not a total write-off. With Ipswich and Forest still to come, we're going to have a big say in who gets that final playoff spot. We're pretty much at the bottom of outsiders to sneak in, but we are somehow just about hanging in there. Lose this one though and we can put any remaining hopes to bed and worry about which players we're going to lose in the summer.

Thankfully he finally seems to have packed in the over the top 'the're a good team' guff before every game and putting the fear of god into his team. He now seems to have them organised and fired up so I expect us to have a go as if nothing else we owe this lot a beating. I still expect him to set out and try to contain. Another interesting team selection but I assume it'll be forced instead of the blatant tinkering of usual so that's fair enough.

A tough test, I hope the crowd turn up and stick behind the team. Do our bit !

Rovers 1 Brentford 1

Personally, I think this is going to be a really tough game with all the injuries. We could be without any number of key players. Some of the players, like Cairney, looked absolutely shattered at the end of the Charlton game such was the shift they put in. Hopefully we can get one or two fit for the game - Conway, in particular, was badly missed when he had to go off. Tend to think this might be a draw considering the injury situation.

This might be a game to far for Rovers, we have played a heck of a lot of games over the last few weeks, this might be the game where the injuries and tiredness catch up with us. If we can somehow get through this and the Brighton game and pick up 6 points we then have a 2 week break and can come back refreshed for a seven game do or die season.

Injuries are injuries. If players are injured they can't play.

We suffer too many injuries and take too long to get them back IMV.

I keep saying it, I think our conditioning / medical teams are overrated and haven't been the same since Doc Batty left. Another area dumbed down by Rovers IMV.

Players getting tired!!!! If other posters had posted this they'd get a right mauling.

Of course you are right Kammy, but if GB dares to rest the odd player now and again he's lambasted by the same old posters.

I think even with the injuries and resting key players we can put out a decent side that should beat Brentford in our current form:-

---------------Steele

Henley----Baptiste---Killy----Spurr

Taylor----Evans----Spearing---Marshall

---------Rhodes---Gestede

Most of those have been rested or are players who can play consecutive games pretty well (Rhodes, Spurr, Baptiste). The ones I might be a little worried about are Henley and Marshall. But they should be okay.

Is kilgallion back? If not then would feel nervous with Hanley slotting in..
