Dortmund Rover 32 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 If they come up will games be policed same as Burnley games are? How fierce is rivalry with Preston?

tomphil Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 A lot of them definitely don't like Rovers with a passion. Most of ours don't care about them and a lot seem to like them for some strange reason. It's fair to say there'll be more aggression from their side. Understandable when you think they are another local rival who've spent most of the last 50 odd years living in our shadow but will soon find themselves on an even keel again with a point to prove. If it was up to the old bill I think they'd have all local games policed like the Burnley one.
Blue blood Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Never got the Preston rivalry. A much smaller club, with no history of competing with them for anything or traditional rivals; we've got the dingles, they've got Blackpool. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Personally see Bolton as bigger rivals as we've tussled for promotion together, played each other a lot more, and have a lot more history. One similarity with Burnley though - I'd have their manager over ours in a heartbeat.
Backroom DE. Posted March 22, 2015 Backroom Posted March 22, 2015 Had an extended period in Lancashire about six years ago and always got the impression Preston fans cared more about us than we ever have about them. It won't come close to the matches against Burnley in terms of rivalry.
tomphil Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 We come a close second to Blackpool in a lot of their eyes I think but at least they've got a genuine historic rivalry will the Lashers unlike sad old Bolton who have no one lol It's a bit odd being in Rovers situation hemmed in on all sides with other similar clubs, Burnley's the one obviously but we are spoiled for choice in the next rivalry stakes. Personally I think they are all two hats
Baz Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 PNE hate us with a passion very similar to their hatred of B'pool and living in South Ribble its a bigger rivalry than Rovers-Bolton, who also hate us much more than we dislike them. I doubt it would be policed in the same manner of Burnley, as they don't seem to have that type of idiot fan.

blueboy3333 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Preston fans hate us with a passion. We're a lot closer to them geographically than Blackpool. Lots Of Rovers and Nobbers fans live in the same areas. They also like to sing 'stand up if you hate Rovers' whenever we play them. It's always been a big rivalry, but more so for them (like Bolton)
ABBEY Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I hate them as much as burnley and really hope they bottle it again .
Jock Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I Live amongst a lot of the PKEys. They detest us. Lots of trouble in town when they played at Ewood in the cup a while back. They call us Plastics due to our Walker days. Funny thing is that they've never been that good.Always rant on about how massive their crowds would be in our position. Older PKEys bitter that a lot of our better players came from the Preston area. I tvvatted one on a train back from an England match once after he bullied me and the Mrs. Only time I've had a real toe to toe with a rival fan. I really hope they choke again.
Dortmund Rover 32 Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 Seen loads of youtube vids of rovers fans fighting prestons mob.
Jock Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Went to school in Kirkham and the school bully became one of the nobbers main hoolies in the 80's. He's one of the dicks that was being escorted to the away end when Chorley played PKE at Ewood ( youtube ). Later heard he got battered in Millhill.
Mike Graham Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 PNE hate us with a passion very similar to their hatred of B'pool and living in South Ribble its a bigger rivalry than Rovers-Bolton, who also hate us much more than we dislike them. They brought plenty of plonkers to Ewood when we last played them in the League Cup.....fighting all over the place. As a Leyland lad the big opposition was always PNE rather than Burnley. Is that the same Preston hoolie who now has a senior role at Ewood.
Ryan Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I doubt it would be policed in the same manner of Burnley, as they don't seem to have that type of idiot fan. Didn't their fans kick off with Blackpool on the pitch just a few seasons ago?
tomphil Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Didn't their fans kick off with Blackpool on the pitch just a few seasons ago? Just an over excited pitch invasion. That game had £10 tickets and Blackpool fans were allowed to make their own way there. Very little trouble reported as far as I know. You find clubs like that who've spent decades rattling around the lower leagues have bigger @#/? groups because aggro stayed alive and well down there years after it was mostly stamped out in the higher leagues.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Plenty of bother when we smashed them 6-0 in the league cup some years ago, made front page of Telegraph if I remember correctly. Seem to revel in the fact a couple of hundred of their goons took over the Yates winelodge in town from mid afternoon unopposed. P!ss Pot club with chip on shoulder fans. Jock,William Routledge by any chance? ..writer of fiction.
tomphil Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Some of them got done over for which there was a little revenge attack a while later I think, not sure if it was the cup or league game from back then. The Station or some other pub got a mention I think. Only know about this stuff because I read it somewhere like !

Nice one PB, it definitely wasn't Dunlop Degsy.I can remember the PKEys having a rivalry with Wigan when they were both in the lower leagues.
tomphil Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 didnt a steward get banjoed ? think one might have got trampled with a police horse or something.
Husky Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I've always considered any 'rivalry' to be irrelevant - probably as in recent times they've always been a lower division side and we've mainly been in the top flight - or a division above them. As others have touched on - it's a bit of a strange one as there are Rovers fans in the same catchment area (I know some Rovers fans from Chorley for example) and I've never really considered whether they 'hate' us or not. Rather the same as an elephant isn't too concerned either way about a fly on it's back. They could easily be PNI (Preston North Irrelevant) as PNE. I'm also in Preston sometimes and used to live there some years ago - it's a City you know - albeit a City with a bus station like one you might expect to see in a post bombed soviet era country. As I posted in one of the lost (not the TV series) threads, I even had one casual friend asking if I'd go and watch them in the play-offs this year - though that was during their blip - they've moved up into 2nd place since then with some decent wins. I did consider it just for the crack........and maybe as I was suffering from an acute exciting football starved delirium (something we should all be getting used to by now). I guess I'll learn to start hating them next season Or maybe when I'm in Preston this week I'll wear my colours and see if I get any @#/??
