Wasn't Rovers burial parade in Bamber Bridge banned because of the protests taking place around Ewood at that time?

I seem to recall it took place between The Aquaduct and Fox n Hounds at Ewood.

If that was the case, then it wouldn't be going ahead.

I was there 4 years ago and I didn't see any bother.

there were 7 police vans there all day and cars struggled to drive up station road for drinkers. I almost took a few out when i went to collect a pizza

It used to be a great event. Rovers up or down, or PNE up or down (the pub cellar).

However it appears as if the British malaise that surrounds many good festivals has taken over and slob rule has won. Another case of dumbing down to the level of the drunken pigs that have taken over many cities, towns and villages.

Certain group of fans that hijack everything that's Rovers did it. SUPERFANS

Yep, organised by some people off this messageboard who didnt want traditions dying out, and good on them for doing so too.

Wasn't it Bob and his missus? Certainly super as far as I'm concerned.

I Apologises to Bob and his wife.

I was having a go at the group who abuse fans for stating their dislike of Venkys.

For the record the last Coffin Burial do was organised mostly by Ewood Dawn (Bobs better half) with help from me.

It was a great day in super sunshine and despite opposition mostly from Lancs Police and apathy from a disenfranchised supporter base we managed to uphold a Rovers tradition in true style.

Don't worry about it. It was us and mainly people off this website who arranged it, they know who they are. Personally I'd never get involved in anything like that again. Too much hassle all in all. It was only done for a bit of a laugh, a get together and to try and keep tradition going.

I'm sure we've still got the bloody plastic coffin in the attic (dismantled, that would be a bit weird otherwise). One thing I did like was that we placed a laminated picture of the cover of New Orders second album on the front of the coffin. I was very pleased with that.

(Oz is right by the way!)

There can't have been a problem because its going ahead on Sunday.

I seem to remember when Rovers' burial parade was due to take place, the anti-Kean protests were in full flow and that was the reason the Brig do was cancelled.

Believe me there were problems hence our coffin burial being knocked back. It co-incided with the opening of the Withy Arms and as the sun blazed it was a goon fest. Since then though the White Bull and Lancs and Yorks have ceased to be and I bet the remaining landlords have been read the riot act about drinking in the streets. Plod will ensure, like our OTT Societ Russia-esque Dingle derbies, that any sense of fun will be clamped upon.

Yep. We paraded from the Fox and Hounds down the hill to the Aqueduct car park where a few speeches were made. I remember meeting Den and Baz.

Dawn and I did a Podcast about it with Whispering Wen.

What has happened to Wen Y Hu? And will there be anymore podcasts?

I went into Brig today to watch the festivities. All OK but.........

In the past there were always plenty of Rovers as well as PNE fans enjoying the day. Today I saw one big chap wearing a Rovers away shirt coming out of the Trades Hall as I was going in. That was all.

The coffin seemed to be "resurrected" from the Trades Hall, paraded through the Brig and taken into the Withy Arms.

Bars at Trades Hall, Old Original Withy Trees and Withy Arms were 3 or 4 deep so wife and I strolled down to White Bull in Walton-le-Dale for some pleasant leisurely supping.

Enjoyable Day!

Apparently the police did their best to cancel this year's event and asked for a £10,000 bond. Someone had a word with the council and it went ahead. The police helicopter made an appearance and riot police were parked on Brownedge Road all afternoon. it all passed off peacefully. The Con Club, which has been struggling lately, was packed all afternoon and must have made enough to keep going another 12 months. Best kept secret was the outside bar at the Withy Arms - no queue. Big crowds all afternoon. Everyone I spoke to said what an enjoyable day it was.

Theres bound to be a better atmosphere around a resurrection than a burial. It's just another promotion party in reality. If the PKE had gone down no way would it have gone ahead I don't reckon.

In the days of cutbacks I suppose the Plod are just trying to cover the costs but it makes you wonder just what they charge for the complete overkill of our Burnley bubble games. Got to be a nice juicy profit in that for them.

I missed it as I was sunning myself in Cornwall. The withy arms outside bar was for a beer festival I sadly missed.

When you say Con club do you mean the trades hall (which always looks busy) or school lane?

Neither, the Conservative Club is on Cranbourne Street off Station Road just lower down than the level crossing.

School Lane club is run by the Withy Arms people and now operates as a normal pub.

I stand corrected. It seems local teenagers caused bother late in the evening back then with plenty of glasses smashed in the road. This time, with the Lancs & Yorks and White Bull shut, no bother there and the other landlords were very strict in keeping drinkers off the pavement. A well run event this time.

Ah yes. I forgot about that one.....as it seems many do these days.

On a side, I enjoyed my first visit to the newly refurbished "The Hunters" (formerly Welcome Tavern) on Hennel Lane

Thanks for the info re School Lane Club

I remember last time I saw a teenage lad, who must have been making a nuisance of himself, pinned up against a wall by someone I presumed was a member of Bamber Bridge Rugby Club. This was near the White Bull pub. I smiled inwardly in gratitude to the rugby man.

We mean to try that one. Not yet had the chance.

I've suddenly realised that most people on this board won't have a clue what we're talking about.

I guess they won't.

Apart from the Black Bull I am not sad to see the back of the recent pub closures on Station Road. The S(w)hite bull was a hole as was McKenzies. The Lancs and Yorks tried to have a go about 18 months ago but fell by the wayside because others do it better.......like the Withy Arms which when compared to it's old life as The Top House is a real success story*. Just a shame that the clowns at SR Council rejected their expansion plan thus making them put the money into the old Roebuck in Leyland.........and with it Ed their best chef.

*The Hunters seems to be of the same ilk as the Withy Arms but bigger. Real Ale, good food, yet still has a large bar area
